  • It glides beautifully. Never a problem however as the engine is very reliable and rarely stops.

  • i would be afraid of flying that plane...what if the engine stops running while flying?

  • No, I flew it for many flights like this. I did use on board glow and had the glow switched on up to about 1/3 throttle. I used 10% nitro. The on board glow made starting very easy.

I have since sold the Tiger Moth and still have the engine. It is for sale.

  • no problems with upside down position?

  • Nice sounding engine! I have a Pegasus 240 but havent run it yet. It's an antique now and still brand new!

  • @72Z15SS

I got it to fly and I fly it a lot. I am not a collector, but It will still look as good on the shelf when I finally finish flying the old moth.

  • @tommywatson1942 Well I actually bought it at an r/c flea market years ago and have been building a Sig Morrisey Bravo to put it in, but now I'm getting cold feet since they no longer make it. I planned on using it back then but had some time away from the hobby and now trying to finish the Bravo...Have a 50cc gas engine for it instead.

  • @72Z15SS Tower Hobbies has them for US$1649.99

The IL300 has come down to US$2299.99

  • when he revs it up, sounds almost like a piper cub engine! that is... a REAL piper cub

  • Incredible! That engine on that plane, particularly with those engine sounds...wow!

  • This looks and sounds absolutely awesome - I fly an ARF Tiger Moth myself and have a short video up of same. Any chance of posting a video of it flying with the cowl on? I would REALLY like to see that. Cheers!

  • I have not made a cowl yet. I had a video but can't find it. I will have to get busy.

  • haha im currently building a toyota pick up model and this motor sounds perfect for the four banger version of the 22r full scale truck. i may just have to get on of these engines and machine a trans for it. great plain btw.

  • They have come down in price since I got mine. Tower has them for $1800.

I would like to see the truck when you get it finished. Post a video.

    Tom Watson

  • For the life of me I cant find the price. Will you tell what you paid?

  • They cost $1,799

  • I bet that hurt at 0:20! I have an os 61 fs and that has happened to me once, it doesn't feel good!

  • I used to fly a full scale one, it sounds about right until the engine gets over 2400 rpm. Miss flying the full scale one. The OS turns backwards compared to the Gypsy Major. The real one was kind of quiet as it flew overhead. What kit is it?

  • Hi,

It is a Flair 1/4 scale. I have heard a few Full size moths and the ones with four straight pipes ar louder than the ones with one pipe. I have tried the collector pipe and it is even quiter. I will just fly at 2500rpm but not very well . 4000 to 4500 is about right.

I hope to have a ride in a real moth soon. They have one here at Camden airport. It will be a bit of a come down from the Mig 29 I flew in Moscow last year.

  • Have you flown it yet???

  • Yes, I have flow it many times. It flies very well. It started life with an ENYA 1.55 FS, the IL300 has plenty of power, though not overpowered. It will maintain height at about 2800-3000 rpm. It sounds better at that speed. It is very quiet. I wnt to make some "megaphone" exhausts lieke you see on old motor bikes. It does need to be louder.

I don't fly it as much as it deserves, and I need to make a cowl..

  • You have a glow driver on it?

  • Yes, It is a Mcdaniel 4 cylinder glow driver. I use it to start the engine and to ensure it does not stop at low revs. It has a 7.2V Li-on pack with a 5volt regulator. Four plugs draw a lot of current,. I just can't imagine trying to attach four glow drivers to get it started.

  • Of course not! Btw the engine is a bit of jewlery...

  • it kinda sounds like the old ford fiesta, but just a lot nicer XD i sooo want one of these but they're like 2k or something

  • more like 3K

  • seriously? aww. better get saving then :D

  • what are u talking about lamage89?? who told u that? its a inline 4 cylinder 4 stroke glow plug engine, weight w/o exhaust 82 oz, rpm range 1800-8000rpm, very nice motor, i want one

  • The airscrew almost hit yout finger.... 0:20

  • I cut my thumb, ring finger and smashed the corner of the nail on my little finger when i put my hand into a running sc40.

  • wheres your cowl, dude?

  • Still to be made. The original cowl needs to be modified. I will get around to it soon. (I hope)

  • like a diesle truck

  • lol, it sounds just like the PT-19 that my grandfather flew in WWII! he showed me the plane, and it also had an inline 4-cylinder engine on it. just a "bit" bigger.

  • Incredible Sound!!!

  • For what you get, that engine is a great deal...... TO make one of these would be lots lots more..... The OS engine is JEWLRY quality!!!! It is that good!...

  • Hi,

I've got the flair 1/4 scale tiger with a laser 150. what size is your tiger as I am thinking of getting a 1/3rd scale tiger with the OS IL 300.

    cheers,

    Sam

  • Hi Sam,

Mine is the Flair 1/4 scale. I would think the IL300 would struggle with a 1/3 scale. The 1/4 scale is just about right for the IL300. It is certainly not overpowered. don't forget that althought it is a 50cc engine, it does not have the power of a 50cc gas engine. I use a 20x8 or 20x10 prop and probably get about 6500-7000 rpm.

  • it is gas! what are you talking about?

  • It isn't gasoline. It runs on Methanol and some nitro, I do believe. It's a glow engine.

  • thats very nice I wish I had one but they are just a littel to pricey I would never spend $2500 for a model plane engine.

  • It all a big game.

The rules are that the one that dies with the most toys wins the game.

I am trying hard to win.

Seriously, it is a wonderfull engine and has given me lots of pleasure. That is what it is all about.

  • Thanks for the post...and the PM that linked it up!...

  • Is Kealo making it for you???

  • Yes, I have the OS Pipe and I need to send that to him so he can get the exact location of the exhausts. I will do it soon.

  • She is a beauty, but what a pitty you didn't mount the pipe Os displays this engine on their site.

    Thanks for posting.

  • G'day Mate,

I have the pipe mounted now. However it is not scale for the Tiger moth. I am getting a scale "collector" pipe made soon and I am makinf a new cowl with lift up sides.

  • I Want That Engine, momyyy!,

Dude that engine is wonderfull, never heard that cool sound, realy never.

  • Thanks for posting

  • Yessss, finally someone puts a video up of this new engine.

  • does it have mufflers on it??

  • No,

It has four straight pipes. I intend to use a collector pipe setup as soon as I can get one made.

  • great sound, is that the new anniversery engine????

  • Yes thats it. I just could not resist. It flies the old moth very well. Not very loud in the air.

  • Wonderful engine!
