"revert to a type of civilization we have left behind."
Totally wrong way to think about this. If you truly must think in terms of 'forward/backward' or 'ahead/behind' (which I view as myths), then I would say this is a move 'forward', not 'backward', regardless of it's superficial appearance (ie: its not some high tech, sci-fi influenced vision of the future).
Sometimes I see it as coming full circle with a new understanding. It looks the same as the 'old days' but it is also very different.
I visited tinkers in 1997. The people were kind, genuine and hard-working. It's hard tho getting up early in the winters n getting kids ready for school etc. Great in the summer, but the cold can be a bitch if one is used to one's city central-heating etc.
@TranshumanCyborg Wouldn't industrial farmers want to keep making money off the land? Wouldn't they want to discover better farming techniques to be able to preserve the land so they can make more money and help the environment? Is it wrong that I kinda enjoy the rantings of all our internet "Prophets of Doom"? Where's the proof?........I want something beyond just speculation. Ask yourself, would this "evidence" stand in court? If so, then get up off your chair and really do something!
The ability to live with technology and nature in balance is achievable, the mindset of wealth and greed that influences the industry that produces the technology is the challenge.
If this is how you want to live and you are happy, then by all means go for it. But, the fallacy is thinking that this is how ALL people should live.
Though the environment is a treasure that we must respect, do you not think that human ingenuity can create ways for us to have "hairdryers and unreality TV" and environmental balance?
If you answer "no" to this question, you need to realize how radical you sound. Are you not thankful for the progress of the last 200 years?
@OozeSlimeJelly No, it is not "radical" to believe human ingenuity will continue to fail in compensating for lack of "environmental balance" with it's so called "progress". No human should be thankful for being poisoned by so called progress. No human should be thankful that pollution is increasingly spread out into space and soon privateer mining of "space minerals" will permanently scar neighboring planets. "Progress" will be the polluting of planets where commoners cant interfere.
@green4ny Yes, everything you just stated is pure madness. The sad part is is that you will never admit otherwise even if you actually agree(to some extent). By all means live however you want; just don't try and force others to do it as well. To deny the greatness of the many achievements of mankind is just sad. To claim that there is no hope for mankind unless we revert to a type of civilization we have left behind is radical. Also, Who cares if we mine other planets!? The aliens!!? lol!
I don't know if this community is technically communal but I have to say it really seems very close to my idea of a "real" commune.
I've lived on a couple and I have to say, most around these days are what I'd called "failed" communes; ie' low rent housing estates for dole bludging stoners.
But in this video they show they've got a real economy, real work is done and as a result they've got a real community.
Tinkers Bubble is a beutifull example and I wish we all could live this way.
excellent guys, this is the perfect future,a return to nature for everyone.this would be my dream, unfortuneately,my wife and daughters still have to have thier hairdryers and unreality TV.
