@piper4seeformerly yeah, he just meant that it's getting harder to come up with a new genre aka 'scene' and that everything is starting to sound pretty similar. to an extent it's true, but there are definitely bands still coming out that have original sounds. i think it's fine when you can see what influenced a band. that's basically gone on since the beginning of music anyways. bands from the 60s sound similar, bands from the 70s sounds similar and so on and so forth. anyways i'm ranting. sorry

The journalists hyped Nirvana and threw a bunch of other bands in the bag to introduce alternative sounds into the mainstream, and then that patented alternative sound became adopted by the mainstream. Just like Greenwood said, the Pixies and Sonic Youth were already doing that stuff. Nirvana were a good band but the hype was out of proportion.

I read somewhere that Thom never got voice training, in which he supposedly damaged his voice over the years. But I must say, for not having voice training...he sounds ridiculously AMAZING! However, after he holds those two notes you can hear how it affected the sound at the end. That last, "Whatever makes you happy" wasn't intentional he strained his voice by hold two long notes in which his voice wasn't trained to do.
