Some of the combos are super fucking hard to do because the timing has to be 100% precise, unlike games like KoF 12 for example, where you just input the attacks simply in order, where in sf4 ,if you're a few miliseconds off, you arent going to land your combo.

What "depth"? 1-frame links? Useless - timing too tight for practical application beyond one link. FADCs? Pointless - damage scaling.
These aspect aren't 'depth' to the trained eye - they're an artificial & ineffectual way conning saps into thinking thus. Input shortcuts, auto turnarounds, messy hit boxes, Ultras, broken command grabs... THIS is SF4's depth - its depth of mediocrity.
@Sablicious Everything you said is true here, actually. SF4 isn't deep at all, but it is you know, fun. Sure it's sort of annoying to train forever to do a 4 hit combo just because one part of it is a 1-frame input for no reason at all, but it's a fun game and all. A lot of the artificial depth is left over from the glitches and whatnot from the original SF2 that went on to become gameplay mechanics.
@OmgSuiseiseki SF4 is deemed "fun" for two reasons, a) its on-line functionality ('cause what else is there - Naruto?!), b) its Wii level learning curve - the kiddies love it.
Personally, play satisfaction comes from being able to train myself to where my SKILLS more often then not win out over rote patterns & mashing. But in SF4 this is often not the case because of its diaper-like gameplay mechanics that reward stupid & boring stuff over genuine skill. Hence the trillion c.MK > Hado Ryus.

What "depth"? 1-frame links? Useless - timing too tight for practical application beyond one link. FADCs? Pointless - damage scaling.
These aspect aren't 'depth' to the trained eye - they're an artificial & ineffectual way conning saps into thinking thus. Input shortcuts, auto turnarounds, messy hit boxes, Ultras, broken command grabs... THIS is SF4's depth - its depth of mediocrity.

@Sablicious Everything you said is true here, actually. SF4 isn't deep at all, but it is you know, fun. Sure it's sort of annoying to train forever to do a 4 hit combo just because one part of it is a 1-frame input for no reason at all, but it's a fun game and all. A lot of the artificial depth is left over from the glitches and whatnot from the original SF2 that went on to become gameplay mechanics.

@OmgSuiseiseki SF4 is deemed "fun" for two reasons, a) its on-line functionality ('cause what else is there - Naruto?!), b) its Wii level learning curve - the kiddies love it.
Personally, play satisfaction comes from being able to train myself to where my SKILLS more often then not win out over rote patterns & mashing. But in SF4 this is often not the case because of its diaper-like gameplay mechanics that reward stupid & boring stuff over genuine skill. Hence the trillion c.MK > Hado Ryus.

@Sablicious correction, whether a game is good or not is all in the eye of the beholder, just because you DON'T like a game it doesn't make it bad. and i've been playing VS fighting games since i was 7 years old and the only thing i was ever able to pull off was the Flash Kick in SF2, and i'm 22 now, so i think i DO know what i'm talking about. and i'm sorry, but just because alot of people DO spam projectiles, that isn't the whole population, and i've only lost to a small handfull of spammers.

@pkphantom Whether a game is 'good' or not is OBJECTIVE, not subjective. It's factual, not an opinion.
Shadow of the Colossus for example, is disliked by a large % of those that play it (no AK47, lock-on aim, zombies or gore). But it is irrefutably one of the finest pieces digital interactive entertainment every created. Only a child or idiot would argue this.
Same applies to fighting games - to the trained eye, a quality fighting game is obvious. It's not about personal leanings or fanboyism.

@Sablicious and this says what? all this shows is that there is alot of people who use Ryu Ken and Akuma because they're very basic characters. they are amazing characters if you really know how to exploit their differences. there ARE alot of spammers, but that doesn't mean that they are any good. and that doesn't mean that the game is bad and spam-based; merely that the REAL SF playas need to step up and show people how it's really done. you don't like the spaminess then don't contribute to it-
