just came back from india and spent 4 days in delhi. on my last day there, i stayed in my hotel room because the pollution was just too much to bear. as soon as i would walk outside, i noticed that my hands felt as if covered in dust- i can only imagine what entered my body after walking around for a few hours...never again will i return there...

Sadly, there is nothing that can be done.. all cities in India are experiencing an explosive growth.. if the Delhi Govt succeeds in reforming the public transportation system by 2010 as it claims, it will be a major relief.

the distance people travel in delhi, forget about trying to get them to walk or use a bicycle. foolish soundbyte from a wrong person. efficient, safe and quick pulic transport is the key. think Delhi metro. this will reduce the number of people using two-wheelers, buses, rickshaws and some even cars. and btw, delhi's air isn't that bad. Smog also depends on climatic conditions. report on china, where entire egenerations ahvent seen the sky due to the moke and pollution....
