More Marv Johnson? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE. A true soul pioneer along with Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke. Marv truly merits a place in the SOUL Hall of Fame.
Most people do not realize that Marv Johnson was, in reality, the first Motown artist. His records were produced by Berry Gordy and written by many of the people who became part of the Motown empire just a few years later.
This was played sooo much on that 45 record turn table that the grooves were worn out by the time the gym dance social was over. What a great time, and great memories this song brings back. The Great Marv Johnaon
It has been years since I've heard this song. Oh thank God, I just love this song. It makes me feel so good. He's a wonderful singer. What a beautiful song. Yea you make me feel so fine. I love the way you love.
I guess the UK folks call it "Northern" now, but it's just good old AMERICAN R&B. Marv Johnson was the first Motown artist and he was very underrated. Great song, great performance!
Written by Billy Davis (Tyran Carlo) and Berry Gordy. After they wrote 5 hits for Jackie Wilson- including "Lonely Teardrops", "Reete Petite". "That Is Why", they wrote many hits for Marv Johnson after getting a distribution deal with UA Records. Notice the flute on this record, and even more so on Marv's record of "You've Got What It Takes"...that was a carry over from their work with Jackie...especialy strong on That Is Why"
