I love vinyl and this is a fine track on analogue. Scratches are a bit distracting tho'. Look after your vinyl cos it always sounds better without the pops and grit.
I saw Neil in the mid 80's in Toronto and he did this song with the International Harvesters as an encore. It simply blew me away. It was by far the best version I had ever heard. Would love to have a version of that one.
It's always amazing to me what memories are evoked by certain songs...I was at a bar in Oxford, Ohio (Miami of Ohio Univ.) in the 70's as part of a road trip with my fellow Sigma Chi pledges from Hanover College when I heard this song..been in the back of my mind ever since. The Buffalo Springfield version is definitely the rustic cool one.
The Rainy Day album put out in 1984 featured a great version of this song by Kendra Smith , who also sings an Alex Chilton song. It also features David Roback doing Buffalo SPringfield's "On the Way Home" and Susanna Hoffs (pre-Bangles success) singing Velvet Underground's "I'll Be Your Mirror" and Dylan's "I'll Keep It With Mine." AMazing STuff! Great album
Do you know if there is a version of Rainy Day on cd anywhere? I have the album but don't have a turntable any longer. Kendra Smith's version of this song is killer.
Seems like a ran across it after searching for about an hour on the net a few months back. But it wasn't for sale and I can't remember where I found it. But I think it's out there and out of print. If you find it let me know, My vinyl is all stored away for now.
Thanks for your response 11xzxzxz. Buffalo Springfield SHOULD be on EVERYONE'S top 10 list. In my opinion they were that good. I just think the competition back then was so great that a great group like Buffalo just got swallowed up by the storm that WAS the British Invasion and the rest of the great 60s music. Thanks again.
Well, thanks for trying. And if you do figure out a way (or even throw together a slide-show /video yourself, someday, that would be great. Until that day, I'll make do with this version and The Guess Who's.
Neil did this tune in Toronto back in the early 90's and just blue me away. In MY opinion, Neil's version at that concert was the best I have ever heard.
Thanks for posting this GREAT song Buffalo. I first this song when i was around 12 years old back in 1968. Loved it then and to this day I still include it in most of the CDs I burn. Too bad the kids of today are missing so much of the great music from the sixties since very few so-called OLDIES stations play any of these GREAT songs. I hope to someday soon start up a REAL oldies station and blow every radio station off the airwaves. Thanks again!!
Buffalo Springfield is in my top 10 all-time groups and it's not only too bad kids today don't know but back then Buf sp. was not popular except for what it's worth. Mr. Soul; Hung Upside Down, Expecting to Fly and so many great and haunting songs will never find a place with the masses .. you have to have taste and sensitivity (like you and me) to like this stuff and yearn to hear it. Hey did you ever notice how few videos of Neil Young songs are done by him and mostly it's amateurs...

I have 3 versions of this song on The Buffalo Springfield boxed set. I like the version of this song sung by Neil himself.
It is such a great song and I am surprised there are so few cover versions around.
Thanks for posting it, so more people can hear a very moving song.

Please post Neil's version. All I could find here was a poor quality live version. Like to hear his studio cut.

Hello Pweener, I will try and post Neil's version for you now. Hope it works.

Pweener, just realised I don't know how to post song from Itunes as it is not a video.
