All I have to say is they are both excellent singers and Katatonia did a great cover of this song. Jeff Buckley and Katatonia both have great music so, in my mind, I do not see why there has to be a competition. I have listened to both of them for a long time and feel my life is more complete for having heard both of their songs...and that should be the end of the discussion. Although I'm sure it is not.
Everyone who says they like this version better must keep in mind that Jeff's was never completed. It was just a 4track demo. The band never got to record it wth him since he drowned before the sessions were scheduled. That said, this is a great choice by Katatonia and they execute it very well. Too bad we never got to hear it the way Jeff intended.

I love Katatonia, they're one of my fave doom metal bands, but Jeff Buckley is like God to me (which is amazing for a non believer LOL). And this song is total SHITE. Jonas, don't ever try to do this again with a song from Jeff, you're a complete and hopeless crap.

No, Tonight's Decision. I really don't understand the hostility towards the cover - I prefer these instrumentals over Buckley's version, which I think only served to discredit to his amazing voice. Did Jeff ever finish it? If not, would've loved to have heard his complete take. Overall I prefer the cover but I can definitely understand disagreements...just not to the extent of vehemence from some.

Some people say that Katatonia has sold out. Personally, I think this song is during a period when they were still discovering their sound. So while you say the singing and such isn't great, it's a creative tribute to another artist, and the best they could do at the time. Now Katatonia's sound draws from many more styles of music and I believe they could do a fine job rerecording this cover.

Well it's a totally diffrent feel, it's as if you took the Original (which is very good) and ran it through a Doom Metal filter. This version is supposed to have an entirely different feel, and to call it Bastardized (which is a fun word) seems slightly pointless seeing as how it's exactly the same song, just sang a bit differently and slowed.
Yeh his version kicks ass.. It was on sketches for my sweetheart the drunk. Look it up, I can only think of one video on youtube that has his original version, and it is a harry potter music video, but you could always listen to this song while on another screen if you hate mr. potter.
