I have two pair of Alden's "indy" boot, and they are great boots. The Wolverine 1000 mile boot is just as great, just a different asthete. I am also stuck between my black 1000 miles and my brown 1000 miles. I can't wait 'til they are little beat up. I am off to Berlin for about two weeks and I am going to walk the sh#t out of one of these 1000 miles.
@manunda Way to rack up the miles on the boot! I think after a little more time has passed, I am liking the way that the brown are getting a nice worn look to them with some character marks. The black are great, but they really don't show any wear to them. Which is what some people will want. I like when My boots look traveled in.
@greatdanefrederik I would recommend doing that. All my other boots are a US size 13, except for these which are 12. The 13 felt way to big. Also because the leather will form/expand after you start wearing them. I would say a size down from your normal would be the perfect fit.
@phototristan I will be honest with you. I have never had my hands on a pair of Alden boots, but I trust they are as good of a quality as everyone says. But for the price and the style of them the wolverine boots hit each mark I was looking for. So I didn't really see the need to spend more for the Alden boot.
Thanks for posting this video. Great job. I too was on the quest for the "perfect boot". Wolverine's 1000 Mile comes very close to filling that tall order. I will picking up my first (there will be more) pair in a couple of weeks. Can't wait.
Also, I spoke with a representative from Wolverine. I told him about this video that you posted. He's going to check it out. I also told him that Wolverine needs to hire you! Thanks again.
@SpeedTriple1050cc Thanks a lot for watching, and for you kind words. I am glad this helped you out. I think you will love the boots! The best part is they make my socks smell like leather too! If you have any other questions after you get them let me know. Thanks again.
@darkknightcol these would work fine with slim jeans. They have a very thin profile. With they way they lace up, pretty much any pant leg will go over them. They are not a chunky boot. Thanks for the video idea, I may have to try that out.
Thanks a lot for this great, informative video. I just ordered a pair of Brown 1000 Mile and I'm waiting for them to arrive. You are a VERY ENTERTAINING VIDEO HOST. Keep up the great work!
i highly doubt the Alden fan is the reason for the change made by wolverine. And I live in the snow belt of North East Ohio, so I know plenty about snowy weather. I do understand "work boots" and wolverine makes some fantastic work boots. These are more along the lines of a dress boot, not a work boot. I champion these boots for different weather, what I was saying is if your wearing them in a foot of snow everyday these are not the best choice.
First of all, it may have actually been the review by the Alden enthusiest that convinced Wolverine to inlay the stitching on the bottom. Secondly, you clearly don't understand the reasoning behind "work boots." These are meant to be beaten in and worn through rain, wind, snow, tar, ice, shark infested waters. You also have clearly never lived in a climate where it is snowing 7-8 months out of the year. We need sturdy snow boots up here, and these are an excellent choice.
When I bought them I asked the guy if they needed special care right away, but he said they didn't. He said they just needed a beating and after a couple of months when rougher weather has set in, apply some conditioner and leather grease/oil. So I find myself actually blaming the salesman.
Its not the whole boot thats coming apart, but I actually noticed that the heels have started to loosen with the drying up of the leather. My fuck am I disappointed....
@seagull18 I am so sorry to hear that about your boots! I assume you began conditioning them from day one? If so, after you wore them in the rain or wet, did you recondition them? And finally I assume you never attempted to use a heat source to dry them, but let them dry naturally.
If all the above steps were followed I have no idea why that happened to you. I'm afraid going back to store won't do you any good. Please let me know if you get anywhere!
@seagull18 Also using a conditioner with Alcohol or silicone base will dry out the leather just like you said, however the wolverine 1000 products should not contain any of these since they know better, also the rest of you boot would be falling apart too if it was a conditioner problem. Seems like the issue would be what was done to the sole after you got it wet. Also the Wolverine product my condition but not offer any protection from water. which is why i suggest mink oil on sole
(..)cracks and crevices in the stacked leather sole, and it has lost it's natural glow and it breaks my heart to see my boots like that. Naturally I'm gonna take them to the store and complain, but seeing as I'm home during the holidays, it'll be a couple of days before Im back home and can go to the store. It seems you know your leather, and I guess I just wanted some advice on how to go about this, since no one else seems to have experienced this cracking.
I can feel your love for the boots and wholly understand it, as I myself am hopelessly in love with my own pair. Great vid.
I bought mine in august andhave worn them untill now in rain and shine, and they've gotten their fair share of wear and tear, which I only think helps make them more personal. However, since I conditioned and applied leather creme to the outsole, it seems to have dried out! It actually has begun cracking as if I'd attacked the soles with a hairdrayer. There are visible(..)

For the price, the 1000 Miles are great boots. Aldens are definitely a level above though they are more expensive.

how do they wear with slim jeans (not skinny spandex ones lol)??
could you put a video wearing them with different type of pants, it would be cool to see how they look being worn.

On a sidenote, the conditioner and leather creme I used was the original Wolverine 1000 mile kit, which was on discount with the boot purchase.
