If you watch the suspects left arm, it appeared as though he extended it towards the officer, then the officer withdrew and protected his firearm. In the state I work in our use of force statute would give the shooting justification. Police are trained to shoot to stop, as are Concealed weapon holders i.e (everyday citizens) Generally when you fire a handgun in a rapid succession like that the accuracy goes down. I understand the first five but not so much the last five.

@mrjimmy2o9 You do realize that anatomically speaking a leg shot can kill you just a fast right? You have one of the largest arteries in the body (femoral artery) that runs down the leg. You could literally bleed out in a matter of seconds if it's hit. Not to mention no as officers we are NOT trained to shoot to the legs we are trained to neutralize the threat. That means well placed center mass shots until the threat is stopped. If center mass doesn't do it go to the head and groin.

@docben556 This is a good shoot. The man went after the Police Officer with a large metal pipe, with a hook on it. The taser didn't work - most likely on drugs. So, the officer's training kicked in and they shot. I know what adrenaline will do and the Officer's acted appropriately.(Also, a person can and has died from one hit to the head. So I think that large pipe could have done alot of damage.)

The amount of force was justified in my opinion! I have 8 years in the Marines. I have to say there are 3 factors to consider. 1: The guy refused to obey police. Common sense man we all know if you don't there going to use their power. 2: They had guns out and a K-9 and the guy still showed no compliance. The police used 3 steps UP the escalation of force ladder, visual, verbal, and then non lethal with the use of a taser. 3: The guy had a hammer which became a deadly weapon when he charged an officer. Deadly force was then authorized.

also realize that even though the criminal was standing back from the officers, the conduit bender is approx. 4 feet long. with that in mind, and seeing as how it is difficult to judge the distance between the leos and the criminal due to the point of view of the camera, a general rule of thumb is that anyone within a 21 foot radius with a weapon already drawn is considered a threat to personal safety as someone charging quickly can be on top of you in a matter of seconds from that distance.
by the conduit bender the criminal was holding. the cops were absolutely justified in how they handled the situation - especially in the amount of times they shot the criminal. as mentioned earlier, cops are trained to deliver 3 round groupings: 2 to the chest and 1 to the head, or three to the chest. only firing the amount neccessary to incapacitate is what they are taught. judging by the vid, 10 rounds was the magic number required to incapacitate this thug. way to go leo's!

1) The suspect was shot/killed by Monterey Park PD, not LA Sheriff's Dept.
2) It wasn't a "hammer" it was a 3' long crowbar.
3) The guy cocked the crowbar back, like a bat, in order to try and strike the cops, which can plainly be seen in the video. You even admit that he was going towards the officers.

If you watch the suspects left arm, it appeared as though he extended it towards the officer, then the officer withdrew and protected his firearm. In the state I work in our use of force statute would give the shooting justification. Police are trained to shoot to stop, as are Concealed weapon holders i.e (everyday citizens) Generally when you fire a handgun in a rapid succession like that the accuracy goes down. I understand the first five but not so much the last five.

You could literally bleed out in a matter of seconds if it's hit. Not to mention no as officers we are NOT trained to shoot to the legs we are trained to neutralize the threat. That means well placed center mass shots until the threat is stopped. If center mass doesn't do it go to the head and groin.

@docben556 This is a good shoot. The man went after the Police Officer with a large metal pipe, with a hook on it. The taser didn't work - most likely on drugs. So, the officer's training kicked in and they shot. I know what adrenaline will do and the Officer's acted appropriately.(Also, a person can and has died from one hit to the head. So I think that large pipe could have done alot of damage.)

I have 8 years in the Marines. I have to say there are 3 factors to consider. 1: The guy refused to obey police. Common sense man we all know if you don't there going to use their power. 2: They had guns out and a K-9 and the guy still showed no compliance. The police used 3 steps UP the escalation of force ladder, visual, verbal, and then non lethal with the use of a taser. 3: The guy had a hammer which became a deadly weapon when he charged an officer. Deadly force was then authorized.

you may not agree with their methods, but realize he did not harm anyone else/destroy property after he was killed. also, look on the bright side, at least now he does not have the possibility of standing trial and going to jail only to be set free on bail or paroled. :)

also realize that even though the criminal was standing back from the officers, the conduit bender is approx. 4 feet long. with that in mind, and seeing as how it is difficult to judge the distance between the leos and the criminal due to the point of view of the camera, a general rule of thumb is that anyone within a 21 foot radius with a weapon already drawn is considered a threat to personal safety as someone charging quickly can be on top of you in a matter of seconds from that distance.

by the conduit bender the criminal was holding. the cops were absolutely justified in how they handled the situation - especially in the amount of times they shot the criminal. as mentioned earlier, cops are trained to deliver 3 round groupings: 2 to the chest and 1 to the head, or three to the chest. only firing the amount neccessary to incapacitate is what they are taught. judging by the vid, 10 rounds was the magic number required to incapacitate this thug. way to go leo's!

.. 5 shots. 7/10 shots reportedly hit the target. cops are trained to neutralize a threat by shooting to kill - NOT injure! with the "shoot to injure" mentality, they pose risk to themselves. even a slightly injured criminal can still pose a threat. the first 5 rounds were delivered while the criminal was still standing, the next 5 heard were the shots that actually brought him to the ground. they also could not have released the dog for a "less-lethal" approach in fear of the dog being killed.

you guys make me laugh. the idiot was weilding a conduit bender and high out of his mind. the taser had no effect due to his high level of intoxication and as close as he was to the officer on the left (not the one with the dog) the officer with the dog had no choice but to fire his weapon. if you notice in the vid after the shooting begins, the suspect is still standing (notice him still standing near the top left corner of the vehicle) and the other officer (not seen in vid) delivers the final

People love to criticize the police what they should have done you have minutes to watch a video and the officer who reacted had seconds to act or his partner could have been killed.
