Why does nodbody want to mention the 'G' word anymore when reporting these floods?

cos this is cockermouth and like many parts of the uk is occationally flooded it wasnt global warming in 1800s so why now when its just the same floods and storms we've always had,apparently flood defences can be put in place but is rejected due to that it could harm the fish heh for cockermouth id understand if it was to protect the cocks but fish im sure they can be moved else where
