Very cool dude... I can definitely hear it. I think the Wakemanesque comments come from around 2:30 where you play the notes so fast that they loose their distinction (which is very Yessongs Yours Is No Disgrace-ish) but then you come in and out of that sound too at around 2:40 with some very distinctive Lamb octaves. Hardly a bad thing to be somewhere between those two. I assume that's a Pro Soloist and what kind of organ are you using, a T-102 by chance?
Your comments are extremely kind! Yes, I admit I mixed in a little Wakeman, but can I really be blamed for that? ;-D
Since you are interested, the synthesiser is a minimoog voyager, which I carefully programmed to sound like the ARP soloist as best I could. I wish I could afford another synthesiser, because the soloist would definitely be top of the list. The organ sounds are being made by a cheap, plastic yamaha electronic keyboard. Cost me $20 but gets the job done!
If you want to make the Yamaha sound better, get a phaser and a chorus for it. Banks used that effect on his Hammond and later the Prophet 10. If gave a nice rotating speaker effect, but better. The Voyager sounds great.
i was planning to .... but then i noticed that i'm playing the first half of it in the wrong key! i mean the chords are mostly right, but are all transposed up a fifth until 2 minutes in. i guess this is what happens when you try to learn a song from memory, *sigh*.
but i have something much better in the works ... Fountain of Salmacis on a pipe organ! =D i only need take my camera to church one afternoon.
you are lucky you get to play on real pipes, id like too see that, but you should put the cinema show vid up i liked seeing it come from the voyager, u got pretty close too the sound of a pro soloist :) plus it helped me learn the solo as well along with the year 76 vid i have of tony playing it. also good job on this vid it does sound abit more like wakeman to me then tony but its still nice.
I am a definitely lucky kid to get to play on real pipes ... in fact, it's my job! I am a church organist three Sundays a month at the Huron Collegiate Chapel and I couldn't ask for a better part-time position. :-D
And thanks so much for your kind words; they are really appreciated.
Mmmm... I'm not quite sure it's Tony Banks who talked to you hegelec. Perhaps it's just a person joking... In fact it's probably a person joking... But if it's really Tony Banks, well... heh... it's fantastic.
About the video, well it's very cool to hear that. It reminds me a lot of a part of The Cinema Show, (Genesis, 1973)and I love that song !
i was just kidding you son i'm very proud to know people write songs in my style not only is it an honour but also worrying to know the new talent pushing us out
Well I thank you for your kind words, Tony. Quite remarkable that you actually had a chance to see this! Youtube is awesome that way!!
I've come across your comments before on the Rick Wakeman video, and The Prog Rock Trio video ... but never knowing it was you!! I mean, you could have fooled anyone referring to yourself in the third person like that. And that your profile says you're only 29 years old! Genius way to mask your true identity. ;-D lolololol
It's a nice piece. It seems some Tony Banks work of first '80 period.First I thought it was written by tony banks, but It couldn't be because I've got all his solo albums and the complete Genesis discography.
Nice tribute to TB! A bit long and meandering, but Banks was great with that stuff. Get a band together and work this stuff out into songs. You are obviously very technically proficient!
Just my unsolicited opinion of course!
/actually talked to Tony Banks on "Rockline" years ago when I asked him about playing a "duck" on "Duke." He said I was the first to ever ask that question, but they were hoping more people would have asked when the album came out.
And yes, I do hope to get some people together to play this stuff and inject some life/structure; the current arrangement is obviously quite boring. So is the video come to think of it; my back can only be interesting for so long!
By the way, if you want a nice laugh, check out my techno arrangement of "Dancing with the Moonlight Knight". It's a little more fun, and at least there's a nice shot of my hands in that one.
great

The 'Wakemanesque' part to me sounds like "Myths and Legends of King Arthur.."

More Wakeman than Banks perhaps in points, semi-interesting nonetheless.
