  • Laurie Freaking Anderson 04:50

  • Your best review.

  • he needs to make a album with Sunn O)))

  • Thanks for giving intelligent, thoughtful reviews instead of the kiddie pablum variety ad nauseum that seems standard.

  • @saxismyaxe "bluhbluhbluhBLUUUUHbluhbluh!" That's my impression of you and all this dude's reviews.

  • @MechaTopher...... And yet another uber nerd still living in their mom's basement and launching attacks safely behind their keyboard gets added to my ignore list.

  • Comment removed

  • @saxismyaxe no, it would seem, you.

  • @IHaveYourSealab And another from the peanut gallery. Duly blocked.

  • Was that a melodica? Awesome!

  • Ok I'm a lazy person : /

I've been meaning to find the vocalists involved on this album and failed to read the name listed on Colin's site. Great to know one way or another though, Thanks Anthony

  • I think this is my favorite review that you made

  • You are the skinhead Nardwuar/Weird Al.

  • >listen to shit tier indie

    >hear this

    Mind = Blown

  • Your videos are great. You've introduced me to some really good stuff

  • aaah

  • there's some peter brotzmann stuff waiting to be reviewed by you.

  • dick

  • @hamnoise aah

  • Thanks for posting a link.

  • What Fantano this stuff is catchy as hell, Red horse is a kind of song you should definitely play at your party!! As far as I am concerned I would dance at this song. By the way nice review!

Check Cellular Chaos with Marc Edwards, Weasel Walter, Ceci Moss. My new crush of the summer. The song "waves" is absolutely fanatic!

  • @mattlepokora Red Horse must have been written with human biological frequencies in mind, because when I'm smoking that reefer and listening to dat sax, I resonate.

  • Just checked this out it's well good

  • Sweet melodica bro

  • hell yeah. stetson was opening act of GY!BE a few months ago. nice concert, nice concert :)

  • I torrented this album, because I don't have a job right now. I love you Anthony! Your reviews make me have hope in this world. I wish I were as cool as you.

  • Whoa... I just listened to the album through the link... it's pretty much... totally mind blowing! I've never heard anything like it.

  • saw Colin in a small old church at the Toronto jazz fest. One the most amazing things I've ever seen

  • Many of his solos on youtube sound exactly like Rothenberg's "Continuo of the Inuit" a solo saxohone piece recorded in the early 1980's

  • Ned Rothenberg has been playing like this for 30 years. He uses extended techniques to play multiphonically and make his sax sound like other instruments/sounds like digiridoos, bird calls, etc. This isn't terribly new ground for reed instruments..Colin just gave it this kitchy post-eno pop vibe that works well with Arcade Fire audiences. He's a good sax player..I just kind of hate that he's blowing up and gets to trademark these techniques when so many others have utilized them effectively.

  • @threeoneg77 Totally agree. This is a decent album, but groundbreaking is not what it is. Free improv 4ever

  • @threeoneg77 Don't blame Colin, blame the people. It's always the people's fault. Then again this is not their fault entirely, they usually like how things "look" as well and that's what peaks their interest. For example, take Colin's shirts... See? I for one disagree though about this not being "groundbreaking". Shit, I would do anything to play like this and god knows not too many people listen to this or even give it a chance, no matter who is behind the sax. Bravo Colin.

  • Thanks for the introduction !

  • I'm waiting for the intro of you going on the lawn at early morning & finally being shot by your neighbours. I bet they hate you by now! I guess Cal would upload it on Youtube, cause he'd think it's the best time he had watching a man die. :D

  • That was a fantastic review!

  • This is a great review of this album. I got it after hearing the title track and decided to check it out. For me, your review is right on. I will be checking out your following reviews. BTW nice editting.

  • Hey man, thanks for doing this. I got into music alot later than most people and I sometimes feel I have alot of catching up to do, so it's great when I find these videos of people who clearly know alot about music and truly love it talk about it so I can understand a little better. Your attitude is amazing and I really enjoy watching your videos for the style and delivery as well as for your thoughtful opinions.

  • Oh man, thanks for taking the time to do these reviews - really enjoy them - do you know DHanyz (Dan in Canada)? He was talking positively about this album too...

    All the best!

  • This album is unbelievable... You should review Christopher Trull's album "Boxes of Dead Things" next.

  • this album is beyond music, it's an intrinsic audible translation of immortality. I give this album a strong 10.

  • oh damn. yeah im subbing this guy.

  • thank you so much for doing what you do. thanks to you, i now know about incredible music that i would not have known about without tnd.

and yes this album is blowing my mind. tnd forever!

  • This is my favorite album of all time, just completely brilliant.

  • Oooo sounds like great stuff! I love me a bit of free jazz :D I just got another solo sax album funnily enough, by Evan Parker, called 'Whitstable Solo', (cause it was recorded in a church in Whitstable, UK) released last year. You should check that out too!

Also, LAURIE FREAKIN' ANDERSON?! I have to get this album :D

  • Musical "Nerd" who doesn't know what Circular breathing is? Ehh...

    Ehhh... PsuedoNerd alert.

  • Loved it! Thanks for introducing me to yet another great album.

  • He's touring with Godspeed right now. He was mindblowing.

  • fresh

  • you know whats awesome is to listen to this review and his music at the same time

  • I predict that this album is gonna be in the top 10 of your 2011 album list.

  • This album is amazing. Such a breath of fresh air.

  • i wav u

  • One song and this review pushed me to purchase the album from iTunes store.. somehow I know I'm not going to be dissapointed. Like your reviewing style and I just subscribed.

Please check out 'Uusi Fantasia - Heimo'. It'd be fun to see your take on that.

  • this album blew my mind like it did yours

  • Pelvic Thrusting ftw! :)

  • Seeing Colin Stetson tonight as opening act for Godspeed you! Black emperor. So pumped. Thank you for showing me this man's work

  • @mohrethanlegend42

Fucking great show. Did you see Anthony there?

  • @habbaoot i was trying to figure out where they were selling all of the merch with my friend when i saw anthony walk by. i started yelling his name but my voice was as hoarse as hell because i was sick. one of the security guards told me i couldn't yell and would have to go outside to find him. by the time i got on the street he was long gone and i missed out on buying anything

  • Great review man, Im totally suscribing. And he's technique... is awesome :)

  • listen to this album while riding the subway.

    do it

  • this album is incredible. thank you. srsly

  • Fuck! Not only do I love Stetson, but I've loved Shara for so, so long. Can't wait to listen!!

  • For something similar, check out Andreas Stahel, a swiss transverse flute player who uses similar technique.

  • Nice review. Its pretty amazing how he manages to get all the different parts going on at the same time.

  • This album blew my mind. unreal

  • Easily the most interesting album I've listened to this year!

  • Hows about that Bruce Lamont album that came out about a month ago?

  • Love this LP. It's so unlike anything I've ever listened to. I'm riding this high.

  • Hey Anthony have you seen his take away show? it is on the la biogotheque website I would provide a link but youtube wont allow it

  • Comment removed

  • This album might have just changed my life.

  • Dude You ROCK

  • :')

  • Coolest intro!

  • Sounds like Anthony Braxtion's For Alto or John Zorn's classic guide to strategy.

  • Awesome review. I decided to check out Stetson, really enjoying it

  • >the only thing masturbatory here was that long ass thank you at the end

  • That was the greatest intro yet Anthony.

  • BUDOS BAND!

  • Love this album. Saw him live before Godspeed You! Black Emperor and it was a bit weird, but then i downloaded the album and.. :O my god! One of my favourite record of this year, for sure.

  • 2:42

  • i really did not expect this at all.

Really reminded of Philip Glass down to the spoken word like parts like in einstein.

    Just shocked thanks

  • Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972. It's an ambient/drone album. Review?

  • that goddamn snow. is it ever not fucking winter where you live?

  • Do Wiz Khalifa in March!!!!

  • You rock for having a melodica .

  • awwwww

  • First I'd like to say that I LOVE hearing your reviews man. You're responsible for introducing me to TONS of great music! Well, I have a recommendation. I think you should add tracklists in the dbox. I think it would lead to a substantial amount of referrals from a google search. Anyways, keep up the good work!

    - A Concerned Needle Drop

  • You should grow your hair out Anthony and maybe even a beard!

  • this album kicks so much big gigantic ass

    thanks for introducing

  • I had to look up a video of him playing to believe what I was hearing. Insane. I'd really love to see him at his own gig or show.

Your channel is really enjoyable too. I've only subscribed just recently but I much prefer these reviews to most others on the internets

  • Love ya <3 4ever

  • (Seafoam Green) Melodyhorn players unite!

  • 3 ppl disliked? BURN THEM TO THE GROUND!

  • I've seen that cover art somewhere before. Mr. Fantano, just when i think you'll get dull or boring you come up with a whole new bag of tricks! You truly are one of my favorite anonymous internet personalities i know of !

  • circulatory breathing technique is used by Australian aborigines to play didgeridoo! I knew that would be relevant one day :)

  • ha. he said masturbatory.

  • Saxophone = horn?

    False.

    But nice review.

  • @andrewgoulet93 i allways thoght he played both sax and horn?

  • lord i just can't keep from crying sometimes is a cover anthony

  • youre ugly

  • @belhorband And you have no swag >:P

  • I really enjoyed this one, and it definitely did blow away my preconceived notions. When I first heard one of the tracks, I didn't even realize the sounds were being produced by a saxophone. Really pretty sounds too.

  • Even though I enjoy psychedelia/experimentation*

  • I don't know whether I like this or not... I'm hearing it at this moment, I'm at "Red Horse" right now, but I'm not sure if it's something I would listen to a lot. Maybe only sometimes, I don't know, we'll see how it grows. Maybe this is too experimental and abstract to me, even though psychedelia/experimentation.

  • This album kind of has an epic feel to it, in my opinion. The song "Judges" slowly builds up into this haunting piece that makes me want to keep on listening to this album. Thanks for the review Anthony, I'll always appreciate what you do :-)

  • Anthony Fantano, forever.

  • Thankyou so much for reviewing this album man, I never would have discovered this on my own. It is indescribably good. Words can't express ...

  • I'll check this out.. extremely positive review! Can't wait to dig into it

  • I'll always love you Anthony

  • I'm with filipr. I've only recently begun following you, but I'll give any album you give an 8/10 to or higher a go, and so far I have not been disappointed. Keep up the great work!

  • You're going to review Tim Hecker's Ravedeath, right?

Have you reviewed it already? Did I dream that?

  • You know who else is a master of circulartory breathing?

    Kenny G.

Yeah, not that impressive now, is it?

  • Orgasm face at 0:29 :D

  • eeentiny feeenteeno
