  • Also, as public corruption has historically been an igniter of Chinese conflict, our embassy should be more active in assisting in the development of systems within Chinese to fight public corruption.

  • The response misses the most important challenge, averting civil war in China; referred to obliquely in polite company as the Tibet problem, or Taiwan problem, or various instances of local unrest.

    The US needs to be more assertive in pursuing our One China policy by calling on the communists to legalize Taiwanese political parties on the mainland as a first step to creating a viable peaceful process for political conflict and change within China.
