the horns do sound terrible, but im gonna guess its because its because this is being recorded with a digital camera and the frequencies of the horn are being accentuated and stand out too much. in other words.. bad recording/bad mix.
having saw the band live five times i do not think sounds the same with horns, i so like the mixture of accordian and acoustic guitar, is one of songs i love to play on guitar
Del Amitri are amazing, lyrically and musically. And your singing along is charming, it just shows how well you know and love the song. A lot of songwriters say their biggest thrill is seeing fans sing their words. So sing away, Mr McIntosh
Great band great song...when you play this on guitar and have to learn it, you begin to realise what fantsatic lyrics and structure. Really brilliant song craft.
Justin is a fantastic song writer, lyricaly brilliant, but i agree that his moodiness, shall we say, stopped him gaining the recognition of being "THE BEST"
I would love to hear that they were back together, because Del Amitri are one of the best live bands ever,.
used to love the dels; found justin to be rather irritable and unpredictable the times i met him - sometimes lovely and friendly, other times quite distant and awkward at best, perhaps rude and indifferent at worst. and i also agree that his personality had something to do with the band not breaking bigger; for such a freaking gifted songwriter to be so dourly cynical surely restricted what they were able to accomplish. but the man penned some great tunes.
Love the band. Met them at a music store signing in Boulder, CO. They were all very nice. Justin even asked if my son Stephen spelled his name with a "ph" or a "v". I thought that was pretty good since they had played the night before and looked like they'd rather still be in bed. And the in-store performance was mind blowing.
You mean Iain Harvie. Brian is the junky t****r from E17. Anyhoo... I love Del Amitri...more than my wife...nearly more than my children. Only met them once after a horrendous Big Breakfast roadshow in Blackpool. They had to mime Roll to me 4 times while the presenter told the crowd when to clap. Afterwards Justin was in the worst mood ever. I quote, "... we have a f*****g plane to catch". Fantastic band though.
I had the same experience only in Chicago, many years ago! It was an instore signing, Harvie was laughing and joking and friendly.I love Del Amitri and think Justin is a terribly underrated songwriter, he was rude and cold, and very sarcastic. He acted like we were going to be totally stalker-like, it was my first and last time to ever want to have a bloody CD signed. We were 2 shy Irish girls. It makes me wonder if it wasn't his crankyness that stopped the band from really hitting big!
the horns are pointing right into the cam mic, and those frequencies pick up on that cam mic perfectly...i'm sure there, it was a great mix and sounded great
Disagree...I think the horns add a wistful and haunting quality that enhances the song. Given the limitations of the recording its a great all-round performance.
Somebody please sign both Justin Currie and Del Amtri (Kris, Iain, Mark, and Uncle Andy!!). They've both got new albums completed. Labels need to give them enough money to tour the world again (especially the SF bay area)! Simply an amazing talent. Again thanks for posting this.
I love Del Amitri and am delighted to see so many great clips on here. Saw them in the inauspicious surroundings of Crawley Leisure Centre years ago and they blew me away. I've always thought they deserved much more acclaim than they ever got, and wonder if they would have been more successful if they were breaking through now - somehow their style seems more in vogue these days? By the way, I agree about the horns, absolutely shocking! Del Amitri still rock though...
Man, it's great to hear Justin's performances with Blazin' Fiddles after reading about it. They are a good combination and his voice is as good as ever. It's tough to get to Scotland from the SF Bay area. Thanks for sharing this.

What the band left with it's fans is far bigger than any success they had.

I met Justin Currie and Brian Harvey after a gig in The Mean Fiddler in London in 1993. Currie was a wanker, Harvey a gent.

The only person who seemed to stay in the band was Harvie! Cummins the original guitarist left in the middle of a US tour!

The horn arrangement is great...its just that whoever filmed this was obviously right next to the horn section so its all you hear...great band...

It was stunning, all right. Stunning how anyone could think the addition of horns make this beautiful song sound anything but complete shite.
