Can any of you anti-Universal Health Care reform people justify the fact that Insurance Companies are specifically designed to NOT help cover people's medications and Doctor visits? I have insurance and cancer and I am dead broke and have lost everything almost. Blue Cross has tried everything, raised premiums, tried to get me on pre-existing conditions, anything to keep me from getting treatments to save my life. How is human health any less important than say the 2nd ammendment?

The man wasn't inciting violence. What he said was a figurative statement about politics. "Hunting him like a fox" in this instance meant that the Republicans are going to try to make a comeback in the 2010 elections, which would severely limit the president's power.

I have faith in my country, and while a lobbyist group is why we continue to have the right to bear arms our founding fathers initially gave us those right. If you have the legal right to carry a gun... You have a legal right to carry a gun... No matter where it might be. The exceptions are on private property where the owner does not permit it, or where the government has decided it is not safe.

So many lies have been told about it, that if you believed the hype, Obama is going to set loose thousands of beaurocrats to man death panels and drown downs syndrome kids at birth. And what are they saying? Get Government hands off Medicare? Really? The Republicans are feeding off disinformation, and deliberately stoking the fires.
For instance, I know someone in France (near identical health care system that is being proposed) who had cancer. He was told by a board that he would have to wait 4 months to receive treatment, which allowed the cancer to spread (but was not fatal in the end, though it could have been).
I also know someone who had cancer here in the US, and through private insurance was able to set up an operation and radiation within 2 weeks.

The government runs healthcare (in some way or another) in every other Westernised nation from Japan to Australia, Canada to Germany, even India. The government DOES give prompt and effective service.
The profit motive in the US has led insurance companies to deny coverage to those who have paid for it, people are going to emergency rooms for primary care (the most expensive way to get treatment there is) and the majority of personal bankruptcies in the US are due to medical bills.
I also saw profit motive cause my grandfather (who needed attention) to lay in a hospital bed for days before anything was done (hey, they get payed for time in the hospital), and somehow got an infection during his stay.
There's also people who aren't given any treatment because of said profit motive, not to mention how profit motive affects preventative vs curative bias.

In Australia, private insurance is not NECESSARY. It is seen as something a bit extra, it covers that which is not covered by Medicare, like optical, dental, private hospitals, etc.

The man wasn't inciting violence. What he said was a figurative statement about politics. "Hunting him like a fox" in this instance meant that the Republicans are going to try to make a comeback in the 2010 elections, which would severely limit the president's power.
People are blowing this way out of proportion. Some here even going as far as saying that people who don't agree with the president should be locked up or deported.
It reminds me of that cartoon back in January.

The monkey cartoon in Jan (or Feb) which depicted a cop shooting a monkey twice, with the caption saying "looks like we're going to have to find someone else to write the stimulus plan".
The author was shocked when he was automatically denounced as racist by the liberals, even though the cartoon was in fact a reference to an angry escaped chimpanzee (from the philly or san diego zoo) that was shot twice by police.
The same thing is happening with this comment.

Phasedma- Read my comment again. I said that it would be absurd to blame the us for terrorism because the US gives them attention. I was saying that because obviously the attention we give them is bombings and killing. So I dont think we actually disagree here. One could argue that we do give them attention by airing their videos, talking about "why they hate us" etc...but that would be another argument.

The bottom line though is I highly doubt anyone is going to go and shoot another person at these rallies. Unless they have a permit to carry a gun and never have before - Even then though it is doubtful.

I have faith in my country, and while a lobbyist group is why we continue to have the right to bear arms our founding fathers initially gave us those right. If you have the legal right to carry a gun... You have a legal right to carry a gun... No matter where it might be. The exceptions are on private property where the owner does not permit it, or where the government has decided it is not safe.

That's absurd. If you carry a gun every single day (like many people do that own guns in states that allow them to carry them) and you bring a gun to a rally it doesn't magically change your intention.
The suggestion that someone is going to shoot another person simply because they have a gun at a rally is absurd.
Frankly under the same exact conditions - other then the mass attention to the gun - the person is much LESS likely to shoot the gun.

Actually, it's quite the contrary.
For instance, I know someone in France (near identical health care system that is being proposed) who had cancer. He was told by a board that he would have to wait 4 months to receive treatment, which allowed the cancer to spread (but was not fatal in the end, though it could have been).
I also know someone who had cancer here in the US, and through private insurance was able to set up an operation and radiation within 2 weeks.

If they DID have health insurance, would the company have honored the agreement?
Would the patient have been bankrupted by the treatment?
Had that person died, would their spouse have been bankrupted?
My mother was diagnosed with cancer a few days before christmas and she was in treatment within the week.

Everyone should have access to health care.
I just don't believe the government should run health care because the government does not work for profit and therefore aren't obliged to give prompt and effective service.
I'm sad to say that the people we know here who had cancer received such prompt treatment because of said profits.

The government runs healthcare (in some way or another) in every other Westernised nation from Japan to Australia, Canada to Germany, even India. The government DOES give prompt and effective service.
The profit motive in the US has led insurance companies to deny coverage to those who have paid for it, people are going to emergency rooms for primary care (the most expensive way to get treatment there is) and the majority of personal bankruptcies in the US are due to medical bills.

I also saw profit motive cause my grandfather (who needed attention) to lay in a hospital bed for days before anything was done (hey, they get payed for time in the hospital), and somehow got an infection during his stay.
There's also people who aren't given any treatment because of said profit motive, not to mention how profit motive affects preventative vs curative bias.

In Australia, private insurance is not NECESSARY. It is seen as something a bit extra, it covers that which is not covered by Medicare, like optical, dental, private hospitals, etc.

However, many people here completely fail to realize that the demonstrators who brought the guns to the rally did so not to threaten the man, but to demonstrate their discontent towards his rumored views against the 2nd amendment.
They were protesting, albeit with bizarre tactics. It's not the first time protest have been done with those sort of tactics (ex: environmentalists chaining themselves to a tree).

Do I feel like an armed person should be able to get within shooting range of the president? The answer's no.
However, I do feel that people have the right to protest by using such measures. The protester was carrying a rifle but made no signs of aggression and showed no intent of using the weapon.
