But the game film clearly shows that they were going to allow that one last play. None of them make a move to call the game over when Jefferson takes the snap. Chucking it in the endzone was the only real option.
1. LSU would not have even been in the game were it not for multiple horrendous officiating calls
2. Les Miles biggest mistake was wasting 17 seconds before calling final timeout
3. With less than 3 seconds left, there's not way in hell LSU should have been able to get set and snap the ball (much less get the whole FG team out there)
Would the clock start running on that last second as soon as the chains were set up for the new first down? When does the clock start running again? If it as soon as the ball is snapped, then why could the field goal team not have come on the field and set up?
While the refs stop the clock for the first down, how many seconds were available to get the filed goal unit on the field? How does that work, please?
I believe his explanation that he was not making a spike motion, but a down motion from the last play. Just look at where he is looking when he is making the gesture. Well down field from where the QB would be.

That's not correct. The coach's spiking motion was made BEFORE the last play (the spike). In the video you can see that a Mississippi player has the ball in his hands after he tried to wrestle it away after the catch at the same time the coach was motioning.

I am a huge LSU fan, but my opinion of Miles took a nose dive after this one. Horrible clock management lies entirely on Miles' shoulders. The game was not lost with 1 second left; it was lost with 26 seconds left when it took the LSU sideline 17 seconds to get a time out. There is already a small movement pushing LA Tech's Derrick Dooley as Miles' replacement. That is unlikely to happen soon, but there is little doubt who the better coach was in Tiger Stadium on the night of November 14th.

Coach said the arm motions were related to saying that Tolliver was down, since the Ole Miss defender came out with the ball. I believe him after carefully looking at the end of this video. But not calling the timeout earlier on the play before was still ridiculous!!

If the spike-it call came from Crowton, then it's high time to point out his weak play calling and game plans all year long.
Miles though, does bear ultimate responsibility. He should apologize publicly.
Crowton seemed to have only one big move for the game. Sucker the dbs into short routes, then run deep on them. Even abandoned a running game that wasn't doing so bad in the first half.
No halftime adjustments either, witness all the punting in 2nd half. (Not to mention awful defensive prep).

His contract incentives were triggered. If LES did not get the HC JOB at LSU it would have been another LUCKY Coach that would have triggered the BCS NC pay Clause in LSU's contract.
The NEXT Coach will most probably get that same incentive. It PAYS to Be the HC at LSU. Look At Saban Before LSU.

The clock it call came from crowton the coordinator upstairs, hoping to get ole miss with 12 men on the field. As jefferson says in the video, the call was passed to him throught the signal caller who is not les miles. Did coaching botch the end of the game, yes. Was it a giant cluster, yes. Is Miles a liar, no.

The truth about the drive: When LSU had the ball around the 30-35 yard line, they called 3 pass plays. On 1st down of those 3 downs (the third down being the hail mary) Miles called a run play to get LSU in better field goal range. Gary Crowton told Miles to "hold off, I have a feeling about this pass play". Miles had faith in Crowton and the pass plays failed.

@SuperSexyCommando Yes. Bottom Line, Even IF LSU had got up to the line of scrimmage and was in position to run a play (with 1 second left in the game), the rule book says the offensive line HAS to be set for at least 1 second before snapping the ball. The game was basically over.
If LSU had a timeout, they could have used it to stop the clock with 1 second left. But they didn't. The game was basically over.. Hope that helps...

The so-called "clock" instruction from Miles is actually him identifying that his own receiver was down before Ole Miss took the ball on the prior play. He was signaling that LSU was down before Ole Miss stripped the ball. He was not signaling for an intentional grounding. Miles is a lot of things, but he wasn't lying in that one instance. That's not correct. The coach's spiking motion was made BEFORE the last play (the spike). In the video you can see that a Mississippi player has the ball in his hands after he tried to wrestle it away after the catch at the same time the coach was motioning.

I am a huge LSU fan, but my opinion of Miles took a nose dive after this one. Horrible clock management lies entirely on Miles' shoulders. The game was not lost with 1 second left; it was lost with 26 seconds left when it took the LSU sideline 17 seconds to get a time out. There is already a small movement pushing LA Tech's Derrick Dooley as Miles' replacement. That is unlikely to happen soon, but there is little doubt who the better coach was in Tiger Stadium on the night of November 14th.

All season long the offense played as a collection of good athletes, not as a unit. Mainly because of bad coaching. Maybe Crowton as much as Miles, but Miles owns it all.
It was inevitable that his chuckle-headedness would blow a game that could be won. Any high school QB knows that with one second left and no field goal unit on the field(!!!!!) you just chuck it in the endzone...
But when your COACH tells you otherwise, it takes real balls to ignore him.

All the years I've watched football, that has to be the worst coaching Ive ever seen, no lie. First: They go for two, which they shouldve done, didnt make it. Second: They kick an onside kick, and got it! Third (First dumbass mistake): You wait 20 fucking seconds to call a damn timeout. Fourth: They throw a Hail Mary and catch it on the 10! .les is garbage....Why do u throw 2 fase passes going for 2? QWhy do you throw the ball in field goal range to get sacked? Why do you throw a swing pass on third down 5 yards behind the line of scrimage? How do you not call a timeout with 20 second left??...Why do you not have confidence in your teams to even have a plan on 4th down....just terrible
