  • There is a very old festival that was celebrated by the locals in Belorus that is pretty much the "Mummers Dance" which was universal amongst the tribes of Europe before Christianity. It still survives in some forms in Western Europe and interestingly there is a Christian hymn that is actually a reverse of this very song! The Christians reading this know which hymn I am refering to, it is very famous because it was probably composed in an attempt to finally do away with spirit worship.

  • @GershomMontana2006

    which one is it?

  • It is so beatifull.... I love that song and the others... I love the celic music.

  • It's so ridiculous how many people come on here and talk about how 'in touch they are with their Celtic roots,' when so many of them are Americans or other nationalities and have no idea what it means to be Irish or Scottish. Most of the "celtic roots" that they are talking about are Dropkick Murphy's and the Wiccan handbook they picked up at the local bookstore. Stop treating our culture like your own personal plaything!

  • @johnnyromani55 I am sorry, but be a Celtic does not mean to be just Irish or Scottish. What about Gauls in France and Spain, or what about Bohemia? Common lad, stay a while and listen :)

  • @JamesJosephWray22 Actually the term 'Celtic' wasn't even used until the eighteenth century, so in actuality it doesn't mean anything.

  • @johnnyromani55 Where a person was born does not determine their spirit. The blood is moved when the blood is moved, whether that blood be one single drop or millions that comprise the whole. Instead of berating those who are "impure", you should be proud that the music sings to such a large group. Open your heart and you open your mind; open your mind and you open doors to fly to the heavens.

  • @whytewytch4

Um, yeah ok I'll try to remember that next time some American tries to tell me how Irish they are and I have to resist punching their pretentious face. I didn't say a word about the music, which I love, just people's attitudes.

  • @johnnyromani55 All I'm saying is that there is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage. I'm sorry you feel this way.

  • What's a Mummer for it to be a Mummer's Dance?

  • @PrueStar Before television, before organised theatre, there were travelling storytellers and performers called Mummers. Sort of a mix between an actor and an acrobat.

  • I used to listen to Loreena Mckennit, then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • Such Rare Talent; Her Voice is a gift that only Heaven can give and her accompanists are as well !!! The Scale: 1-10; But They Are A 120+++...

  • Please guys, can you tell me where can we find such beautiful landscapes !

  • This song takes me back to the late nineties.

  • Makes you want to go visit a castle somewhere.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written and sung. Steeped in tradition and history. The lyrics alone are a masterpiece and are from such a distant past. One can almost feel and experience the lives of those who crafted this masterpiece.

Loreena does this song justice as she is gifted with the roots and a voice that is very special.

An incredible song sung by a very gifted artist!

  • This song is so beautiful that I get shivers whenever I hear it.

  • Sonidos de los Dioses...

cierren los ojos y..sientan su corazon..

  • 240p does not do this song justice, you cannot fully appreciate it :(

  • @thelumptube excuse my ignorance,but what is 240p?

  • @hotties3v3n Its the quality of the video, but it affects audio quality as well. The higher you go (up to 1080p) the better it gets. However, when you are judging solely audio quality, you will not look at resolution, but bit rate and format.

  • Perfect song.

  • i want to dance in a dark forest under starlight right now. XD

  • Hermoso, transporta....

  • FELICITACIONES X TU VIDEO!!!!

  • Take a thumbs down for (*&#^ annotation, not allowing you to pause by clicking on the video!

  • A masterpiece- song and artist!

  • Haunting. Rich. Wonderful.

  • is that Edinburgh Castle at the beginning?

  • ES BUENISIMO, YO LO RECIBO EN MI MAIL rmariodiliscia@hotmail.com.a

  • Merveilleuse chanson!

Pouvez-vous traduire une strophe au moins en français? Merci!

  • @sensible46 When in the springtime of the year

    Quand au printemps de l'année

When the trees are crowded with leaves

A l'époque où les arbres ont des feuilles en abondance

When the ash and oak, and the birch and yew

Où le frène et le chène, et le bouleau et l'if

    Are dressed in ribbons fair

    Sont vêtus de rubans colorés

  • @buiulovesongs When owls call the breathless moon

Quand les hiboux appellent la lune essoufflée

In the blue veil of the night

Sous le voile bleu de la nuit

The shadows of the trees appear

    Les ombres des arbres apparaissent

    Amidst the lantern light

Entremêlées avec la lumière de la lanterne.

  • [Chorus]

    [Refrain]

We've been rambling all the night

Nous avons erré toute la nuit

And some time of this day

Et une partie de la journée

    Now returning back again

Maintenant, en train de retourner encore

    We bring a garland gay

    Nous apportons une gaie guirlande

  • [Refrain encore une fois]

And so they linked their hands and danced

Et ainsi ils joignirent leurs mains et dansèrent

Round in circles and in rows

En faisant des rondes et aussi en rangs

And so the journey of the night descends

Et ainsi le périple de la nuit descend

When all the shades are gone

Quand toutes les ombres sont parties

  • A garland gay we bring you here

Une gaie guirlande nous vous apportons ici

And at your door we stand

Et devant votre porte nous nous tenons

It is a sprout well budded out

C'est une pousse qui est déjà bien bourgeonnée

The work of our lord's hand

L'oeuvre de la main de notre seigneur

    (Refrain encore 2x)

  • @buiulovesongs Grand merci, c'est très gentil de ta part!

Les paroles apportent beaucoup à cette chanson d'une douceur infinie...

  • Brilliant!!!

  • so powerrful

  • Talent.

That's all I wanted to say: talent.

  • 73 people are not Celt. They're Romans.

  • @DaMoSshArdam Celts do not descend from Romans, but Vikings of Scandinavia

  • @Connierio Sorry, you're mistaken: "Celts descend from Vikings" is a bit like saying "Germans descend from Vikings". Whether you meant populations or cultures, Celt & Viking would better be described (geographically, genetically & culturally) as neighbours.

They overlap somewhat in time, but had different homelands. They had contact by trade, warfare, some slavery and colonisation - and so a limited amount of genetic & cultural mutual influence.

    Icelanders do descend from both.

    Just sayin'.

  • Comment removed

  • @Connierio The Celts are not related to the Vikings. It's like saying the Koreans are descended from the Russians. Vikings are Germanic, the Celts are Celtic......totally different language families and groups of people, with entirely different indigenous cultures, religions, folk music, clothing, physical appearance, etc. Vikings and Celts are as different from each other as Russians are from Greeks.

  • tienes razón, yo tampoco entiendo lo que dice, pero siento u na paz increible que no sabría describirla...........
