Chrysler, GM and Ford share a lot of the same suppliers. If Ford was the only company that needed those suppliers those companies would easily have gone out of business or severely fractioned. Keep in mind, Ford requested $14 million from the government, but was denied because they weren't convinced it would be put to good use.

Since 2009 when Cash for clunkers came out, I've bought 2 FC (an 88 & 87) RX-7s. 17/24 EPA rated. New car's ~40 mpg highway is good, but with an initial cost of about 6X the cost I put down & into both of my cars... It's going to take YEARS of driving to even them out. Plus, you won't be getting any excitement from a drive in a brand new corolla -_________-. I'll keep the vintage stuff rolling as long as I can.

Even my T100 would have been aplicable under this program as a "Large Truck" the thing has 160k on it and it runs like brand new, sadly ive seen some turned in, very very sad. This program would have been great if it took cars that weren't really road worthy, or REALLY were clunckers, but 95% of the vehicles traded in were perfectly fine. Since 2009 when Cash for clunkers came out, I've bought 2 FC (an 88 & 87) RX-7s. 17/24 EPA rated. New car's ~40 mpg highway is good, but with an initial cost of about 6X the cost I put down & into both of my cars... It's going to take YEARS of driving to even them out. Plus, you won't be getting any excitement from a drive in a brand new corolla -_________-. I'll keep the vintage stuff rolling as long as I can.
