This one of the few versions of this song that hold true to the original. The real original also had banjos! Still looking for that online. I have it here but, have no way of transferring to my computer:(
Wrong notes? Uhm, yes, unfortunately it is necessarily so. Strange way to show how everlasting Gershwin's music is.... But I play wrong notes as well....
It's very interesting to hear different interpretations of this dazzling piece of music- I first heard this piece of music over thirty years ago in elementary school and it remains to this day one of my favorite orchestral pieces...
Interesting photos, too. I think I recognized Cole Porter in there. I know you had Jolson, Eddie Cantor, and a young fellow named Harry (Bing) Crosby. There were the Marx Brothers, Rudy Vallee, and Jimmy Durante with his jazz band, too! I'm only 65, but I do remember a lot of those guys.
Not necessarily wrong notes. There are several versions of the Rhapsody, all written by Gershwin and some performed by him. It's interesting to me to hear this early version. I have a recording of Whitemans big orchestra, which is quite different from this. I have also heard a Duo-Art piano roll of Gershwin himself playing this, sans orchestra. He was quite a pianist. He sounded like he had four hands.

Play real fast? Hee hee! If something is played well enough it can sound that way.
