i was the flagger when this crash happened. standing safe behind the barrier, i was still knocked off my feet by debris flying off the car. the car hit inches from me..i was on a yellow flag for first lap, no time to leap away, the course was blocked by tires. This was turn 6, not 5. turn 5 went on a red flag. i went to hospital, and was ok to return to work. they moved the turn station to the other side of 6 after this happened. hope you knew i was allright! kate from California
My response was only to inform people that club racing and DE have consequences. If you win a club race or pass someone, your life will not change in the least. If you crash your car you are now on the hook for your car, possibly the car you crashed into and most likely the price of the car to replace it and get you back on track . Plus the loss of fun time for the years that you are out of racing. Unless you are a pro and getting paid to drive someone elses car, don't tailgate and just have fun
Of course he wasn't tailgating. They were going thru warm up procedures. The guy in front inexplicably lost it, there was no way he could have been ready for that. The car ricocheted back at him!
I was there. This was the out lap first session of the weekend. Cold morning around 55. The speed was way less than 100. Listen to the revs he's short shifting and just getting the car warmed up. Definitely not tailgating. Topcartracer, you are correct, the crash could have been avoid - I should have been ahead of him.
i don't know. If you look at .16 sec you see a big fishtail from the car in front. I have raced that track many times and that would be a big clue to me that this guy has cold tires, is a using too much power and needs some extra space.
These guys are doing around 100 mph on a warm up lap at the bridge and I still think he is too close-which is obvious based on the fact that HE HIT HIM IN THE REAR END...Which means he had no control to avoid his car.
It was a warm up lap and based on the fact he HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF HIM he was tailgating! WTF. Don't second guess the obvious , it makes you look stupid.
I feel bad when a club racer trashes a $100k car. I RACE AND HAVE FUN and I hold back and let people pass. I prove my manhood in other ways and I drive my car home after a race. Too many club racers think about this fact AFTER their car is totaled and it is sad...NOT macho.
If the bullet cost $100K the soldier might NOT shoot it.
Actually I have raced at that track. Go to my you tube page and you will see my porsche going under the Sebring bridge - same track.
If you hit the car in front of you its tailgating. That guy does not look very happt. That is a 911 CUP car, not street legal and is worth around 150K and if not totalled will cost upwards of 50K to fix
Most accidents in club racing is following too close and the car in front spinning.
@fladave99 I can tell you he was not tailgating! the thing is when the white Porsche crashed he, bounced of the tirewall and was al over the track. because of this the driver of this Porsche had no where to go, the only thing he could do is hope he'll miss him, unfortunately that was not the case.
I play racing simulations the same way pilots play flight sims, its a very fun alternative to doing the real thing. If you have an interest in aircraft, of course you will find flight sims fun.
I currently race in 2 stroke racing karts, specifically rotax max, as i don't have the funds to support car racing at the moment.
My brother is the 2009 thundersport british superstock 600 champion, and my dad and friends all participate in various forms of motorsports.
I club race a 911 PORSCHE and also shifter carts. (Rotax is a little slow for me) Seems like your experience is talking trash. Who cares what your brother does.
lol mate, why are we even arguing. You have your opinions and i have mine.
Spend your time trundling around in your porsche, i'll be that guy who laps you in a mini cooper.
If your not pushing why the fuck would you want to race? And don't try and bring speed into it, if you kart race like you say, you will know full well that rotax is some of the hardest and closest racing in the world.

@6StringedxBrewtality
must have been some debri or oil on the track.
it was really random so I doubt it was driver error.

I do if I am driving someone elses car. If its mine I drive 9/10ths and drive my 911 home at the end of the weekend.
He didn't.

Looks like tail gating to me.
Unless you are a paid racer with big money at the end-slow down 'cause it don't make no difference in your life...
Unless your PORSCHE is totaled and you have to pay it off before the bank finds out. Then your life will suck

lol mate. You don't tell a racing driver to slow down. Maybe on a "track day", not on a race weekend.
Its like telling a soldier not to shoot his gun. Pointless.

I am not saying people should'nt go all out. Its up to them. All I am saying that racing is extremely dangerous.
Flat tires, errant downshifts etc can cost thousands-of which many people cannot afford.
Just think about it. Have a plan in your head and stick to it. Don't let a faster car ruin your life and take you off the track for a long time.
Lots of accidens are caused by tailgating on warmups. That's all I am saying. I'll bet that guy wished for a few more feet after he got hit.
fladave99 2 years ago
If the guy was on a slow paced track day, fine, he could have backed off a little. But at the end of the day its his choice.
Also judging by how slow everyone was going to warm up, i think predicting an accident like that would be ridiculous.
I don't do track days, i race in full racing championships, but even when im just doing a test, i will always push hard. For me its impossible not to.
richiespeedisback 2 years ago
Thats fantastic that you are a pro driver. Funny though-I want to your site and all I saw was video games.
I'm afraid it's not the same thing. And I never heard of a pro driver who goes all out on warm up laps.
Crashing a car-wether you are a pro or not is not the same thing as getting a sore thumb after a 2 hour championship on your computer
It's not a good think to make reckless posts on You Tube to encourage people to drive all out in real cars on real tracks.
Stay safe!

That was some sort of failure at the front. Not sure if the left tyre blew or the steering went but it certainly wasn´t cold tyres
