The worst part is that the Swedish movie, which is the only Millennium movie that should exist, won't ever get as famous as the American one. That's just..wrong.
the sad thing is, most Americans who see this will think its an american original not knowing the Swedish movies even exist like a million other remakes america have done of international movies
@Nepatez You're right. I've seen the original back then and mentioned about it to people and now that the American version is out, they didn't even realise there was a Swedish version.
As i always say, typical americans do to remakes of already awesome movies, all they think of is the money....do this film in english with an other language then swedish is absurd!

Like so many have already asked, why do the existing great movies need to be remade? Surely it's not because the average US viewer is too troubled to read sub-titles.
it better not be kristen stewart. there is no way she can play that kind of character, natalie portman is more than capable as is ellen page i imagine. But I don't see why they're making a remake. You can watch the swedish version with english audio!
i hate it how whenever there's a remake people always say "america ruins movies". no we don't. some remakes ARE better than the original. however, there are certain movies (such as this one) that just don't need a remake.

The American establishment know very well that they have colonized the European mentality with their films and don’t want this to happen to them as well. I think the European film industry should consider doing remakes of American movies to preserve our own cultural patterns.
amazing acting by the lovely Noomi :) Noomi is pretty and Lisbeth is hot (yes im a girl) XD they are two completely different people its amazing. america needs to stop ruining movies. oh and i love the Hard Candy movie reference, that was a pretty good movie
It doesn't even make sense it's a SWEDISH book how can they even make it american? Change Stockholm to NYC? Noomi Rapace is the only one i can see as Lisbeth Salander. They're going to have to change the names and stuff too since those are swedish names. HW just seems like they are going through a lot of work for a movie that won't do well. Use your brains and create a new movie instead of jacking other countries films, it shows you are lacking incentive
Why do they need an American version anyways? People need to learn how to read subtitles. I will watch the american version out of curiosity but it will never beat the original. Noomi Rapace plays Lisbeth amazingly. I don't think I could ever appreciate another actress in that role as much as her. If I had to pick an American Actress I would say Keira Knightly or Winona Ryder because they're some of my favorites&they both are really great at playing dark roles. I'm American but I swear we need to leave this movie alone. I love this trilogy. Noomi owns the role of Lisbeth hands down. BTW I saw Hard Candy too and that would be a negative to watch that actress in a trilogy LOL!
wow, noomi was so polite about being one upped. i hope for her sake, considering she won the best actress award in sweden for her portrayal of lisbeth, that the remake crashes and burns. she will be a hard act to follow. possibly because of her punk background as a teenager, she was able to combine the kinky side, the mysterious side, and the street wise side into what i thought was an extremely sexy character. i loved her (in all three movies, actually).
Noomi is quite polite here saying that "they will do something interesting". But it seems many commentators agree that things can only get worse when americans try this.
While one can imagine the story being ported to America, one would have to completely forget Noomi since she is so perfect and nobody could possibly do it like her.
I seriously hope these girls are not the top 3 being considered :( I am a fan of Natalie and Ellen, but they are not badasses like Lisbeth. I would even consider Michelle Rodriguez even though she is not the most talented actress, but at least she's got edge.
@smallman1112 Here I am, an American, watching this video on YouTube because I was fascinated with the Swedish version with subtities... and I read your comment. Many people in the U.S. have seen the Swedish films and your comment only proves my suspicion that many outside this country that claim superiority to it are simply uninformed and prejudiced.
i think ellen page would be a great pick for this role. shes a good actor, especially for her age :)
and same goes to natalie portman, altho i cant really picture her with this sort of look. lol
but kristin stewart...i dunno, i cant picture her playing this at all. shes had a few good roles, but i dont think she could portray this kind of character :/
*Sigh* Why not save themselves the trouble and just add subtitles to the Swedish version instead? -.- The Swedish version is very good, and I know that when Hollywood remakes it, the original will just be forgotten. It's so typical.
I couldn't agree more. Producers, directors and writers in Hollywierd are out of ideas, they've been out of original ideas for the last two decades. which explains all of the animated features they're producing, like part 3 and 4 of every other movie they've made. So to keep interest they rape and pillage foriegn films to compensate for their lack of creativity. The sad aspect is that most idiots who go and see this garbage won't even recognize that this is a Hollywood hacked remake.
@JarHarJar of course it was missing scenes. That book is damn fat, you can't get everything into a 2,5 hours long movie for gods sake -.- Have you ever seen a movie that doesn't miss a single scene from the book? come on
Why is hollywood remaking this movie? The sweedish film is great and they should try to come up with something original of their own and not copy other great foreign films.
Mara Rooney is playing Lisbeth in the US remake which is so sorely not needed. I don't get why the US feels a necessity to update something that doesn't need updated. Mean Girls 2 anyone? Barf
fuck you hollywood u better not remake this movie. its good the way it is. ill watch it in swedish anytime rather than watch america remake this great series.
as soon as i heard that they wanted to make an english speaking version of the series i thought ellen page would be a good call. but they should use a unknown actor for the role. & shane meadows should direct
well, even if fincher seems to be a good director... he has quite some work to do to not fuck this up... since "the original" has already been such an international success..
I definetly will watch it.. just to compare and hopefully come to the conclusion that the better version is already out there...
Please don 't fuck with a good thing. American cinema is so bankrupt they always have to adapt Europes better examples of film making and dumb then down to some idiotic American Hollywoodized version in order to show how NOT WELL we can do it. I wish HOLLYWOOD would HAVE A ORIGINAL THOUGHT and just leave it alone. Deal with the fact that we are not sophisticated enough to do anything as sublime as the Swedes have created here.
@carl33n3 Yeah and they fucked up "Let the Right One In" and also Ringu, and so many others....I think it is freaking stupid. Some Convention Chair men, wanna be actor is trying out for something in it, WHAT A LOSER
why the fuck is everyone always mentioning kristen stewart...she can't even act, ok so she did make a bunch of money from twilight but that was because of the fan base, not because it was a great movie. And when she does try to act, everything just seems exaggerative and fake. If hollywood wants to make their own version, they better get an actress that is very versatile.
An American TV series would be more interesting. The features have been done to perfection. And the trilogy can carry on with good writing and imagination. So Hollywood...STOP WITH THE FEATURES ALREADY AND SHIFT GEARS TO TV.
This movie, like many European films, has an edginess to it that goes really well with the story. The American version is never going to come even close!
There's no reason to even make an American version of these movies! Why ruin such a great thing??? This trilogy is fantastic just the way it is, the way it was meant to be. What the hell is Hollywood thinking? I will not watch any remakes / Americanized versions. What crap.
why mess with something darn near perfect?! i am american and noomi played this role wonderfully. she is truly a gifted actress and seems like a very cool, genuine nice person in real life. go girl :)
calm down, people. david fincher has been tagged to direct this, and if anyone can pull it off, its him. this falls perfectly into his style. i think it has a shot at being very good.
Yup, not gonna see it. Already saw the superior version anyway. Why go watch something that will most defiantly have no sole and only exists to create money? Only possible thing better would be to get rid of the subtitles, and honestly if you're to lazy to read a little bit, go sit in the corner with your coloring book. This is a remake that shouldnt see the light of day. You simply can't top Noomi Rapace.
Fuck Hollywood you suck and Kristen Stewart should have the good grace and humility to refuse to go anywhere near a project that would make her look a fool in trying to fill Noomi's shoes!!
coool! i live in sweden and its a swedish film, and its cool to see hollywood gonna make a new film, i mean, sure it wont be as good, hollywood will make it more like.... angelina jolie, sexy big boobs, can like, for once they have a "non-sexy" girl??
Why would anyone remake that movie ? It's perfect as it is. Reading subtitles distract from the beautiful landscapes, but do you need one more reason to watch the movie over again.
I find it very distrurbing and pretentious of Holywood to remake international movies. They are often worse than the original, often terrible. It's simply insulting.
I think it's just embarrasing for whoever is playing the US salander. They're never going to be good enough! Noomi's just on a completely different level.
@akristen0121 True that! It's not only an insult to the Swedish film makers to think that they somehow need their films remade, but any actress coming after Noomi would simply be trying to be her. Sorry, but that's not flattery, it's insulting and they'd fall terribly terribly short of her accomplishment in that part. If they wanted to to the movie justice, simply release it as is in US theaters and stop trying to best whats already been so well done. Hollywood is so pathetic.
Remake? WTF for? The movies have already been made, boo hoo it was Swedish and not Liberalwood. Swedish or not, the stories have been told, the films have been made Noomi IS Lisbeth. To think that anyone else could do it better is a joke. I wouldn't pay a dime to see a US remake. I enjoyed the originals and that's the long and short of it.
@mjmcg I absolutely agree with your comment....Everything was perfect in those films. We don't need an American remake...By the way,is Noomi's tatoo real?I love it...
@mjmcg I absolutely agree with your comment....Everything was perfect in those films. We don't need an American remake...By the way,is Noomi's tatoo real?I love it....
@mjmcg I can't agree more and look at all the comments, we don't want a fucking hollywood shit fucking remake!! How anyone in Hollywood can have the audacity to look at that incredible film/s and think they can do a better job is arrogance in it's most vile incarnation.
Please Hollywood, leave this alone. It'll probably end up being set in LA with product placement splashed throughout; for US companies of course. It will become another part of the US world propaganda campaign, in which nothing great is allowed to come out of any other country. It has to be Americanised for the world audience - Communism with American carachteristics.
It would be ludicrous to do an "American version." Americans just need to grow up and learn to read subtitles like the rest of the world. I cannot imagine any of the named actresses doing this movie any justice. There are some good American actresss - great ones -- but American "blockbuster" directing tends to be bloated and cutsie -- or gratuitously stupid.
Hollywood has to do this.....they have no new ideas .remake after remake.reboot, bring back....seems there is just lack of imagination now of days, they have to just milk the old......they wont out do this movie, the actress was perfect, and the director was brilliant.....FUCK MAIN STREAM HOLLYWOOD. BUNCH OF MILKERS, hear there redoing superman, and spiderman again, omg......no balls to try new stuff....retards
I haven't see too many of Kristen Stewart's movies, and Twilight's not really that good a movie to judge her acting from. So for all I know, she could be very well up to the challenge. I'm just worried about the rush of screaming fangirls she'll bring to the movie's following.
And as far as Natalie Portman and Ellen Page go, I feel kinda the same. I know it's stupid, but they just seem too Hollywood A list for me.
I have never seen the original movie but devoured all the books. Truly a Swedish masterpiece!! I simply cannot picture someone like Kristen Steward playing Lisbeth Salander. Besides that an American remake seems to be a waste of time just like any other American remake of other European movies. Too American, too soft, too hollywood mainstream, and simply taking away from the uniqueness that made the story in the first place. Long live Europe and Swedish crime thrillers!!!
@nexusone1984 Actually its not a remake but a film more in line of the book. Its the same as the True Grit movie about to come out. Its also filmed as the story in the book.
I heard the same thing when they did Charlie and the Chocolate factory. It's not going to be like the Gene Wilder version, but closer to the book It turned out that Johnny Depp version became a musical that sucked.
@nexusone1984 Just kidding. DT as a musical, along with the Wiz was bad.Rooney singing, along with her acting is a stretch. Maybe the other 2 will work. A recast would be best for those.
Seriously Why? Naomi Rapace was the best pick possible. After seeing how she was this character, I don't know how it could be done better. Why remake movies just made? They are excellent! Learn to turn on the subtitled English. From someone in Texas, honestly. Ya'll watch the real ones. Cowboy/Cowgirl up and do it.

Honestly how can anybody ask these senseless questions ??????? "And they EVEN plan a hollywood remake " how fantastic .....I think the swedish orignal was perfect ...it's ridiculous to film a remake it won't be succesful but that's the only thing the american film industrie is used to: remake things ( just have a look on the beginnings of the American theatre industries )
@LightsCameraAaron BUT, this trilogy should NOT be remade!! Hollywood is going to take the power out of it and turn it into trash. I'll be shocked if the remake is any good.
This series of films should absolutely NOT be remade. They are perfect they way they are. Yes, they look alot like a David Fincher film, but c'mon, leave perfect alone. As far as Lisbeth is concerned, Noomi was spot on. The only other actress in the US that could play her is Ellen Page. Kristen Stewart? Please. The girl can't act her way out of a paper bag. Poor little Mara, she's going to ruin her career before it even begins trying to come close to what Noomi did. Boo to Hollywood!
If Hollywood continues to redundantly remake great American and non-American movies and fails to develop their own movie ideas, they're gonna go bankrupt like General Motors did in 10 years. If they remake Terminator, Rocky Balboa, or Home Alone, etc, f**k it, I won't watch them.
I don't think they're making an American version just so Americans don't have to read subtitles. It's to make money. An American movie can be marketed to Americans, and more Americans will pay money to see it. Simple. Even now, this movie is in limited release and in a handful of arthouse cinemas in the states.
After seeing this movie and Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth, I can't imagine another one or actress doing it. I think an American version will be a tragedy and will totally f*** it up.
@mashoo0 I think the first one will be ok. The following 2 maybe no good. To me they will want to rush out the other ones before Mara gets to where she is to old to play the part. That rushing will make Fincher bow out of the 2 and having to use another less director. And about the US and remakes. In knowing of that Noomi is in Hollywood right now talking to studios about doing movies there.
If Kristen Stewart is in this movie, I absolutely will not go to see it, no matter how well-done the rest of the movie is. She SUCKS. What she thinks is acting consists of stuttering, blinking repeatedly, and biting her lip, which she does in ALL her movies. But I trust David Fincher <3
@theworldaccording2me i think she might need a more grown up role to show wat shes got and if im right i think she would be ok for the role but if she does it she will have to do alot of growing up otherwise shes going to ruin it
As an American, I'd much prefer to watch the original films in its native language and read the subtitles. I love foreign languges! After a while, no matter what your nationality, your ear gets used to the sound of the certain language that is being said. On quite a negative tone, when i read from the DM that Hollywod was going to do a remake, my heart SANK! :( How dare Hollywood make this film for its financial profit and ruin such an eloquent, beautifully, supremelly well-acted film!
i personally think the american remake will be better and worse in some ways, because i think graphics, music and the storyline will improve however when it comes to acting, no one is going to touch Noomi especially if they go for kristen stewart!!! Noomi i think is the only reason why the movie was good... she owned!
@cavaliergirl1 She is busy with the Twilight movie. Its going to Stephanie Hunt. Actress/singer/musician. She is in the Black Angels band fiddle, piano, sings. They have the main song"Your in my Head",in the last Twilight movie. A band on the rise and her as Lizbeth will only make them bigger.
She's incredibly gracious to be doing press for her own movie and spend so much time being asked by the interviewer who should play her role in the American remake! How tacky of the interviewer.
Hollywood will for sure make Lisbeth softer ... bigger boobs, less bony, more of a victim, and lots of crying and emoting. And it will SUCK. If they must do this remake, I pray they find a no-name actress to do it so the character stays intact.
The worst part is that the Swedish movie, which is the only Millennium movie that should exist, won't ever get as famous as the American one. That's just..wrong.

If they have to make an English version I think it should be British.
Sweden and Britain are more similar (weather, background...) and I'd like them to have accents so it doesn't feel Americanized.
The American accent would ruin the whole thing.

maybe the swedes could remake 'black swan' with noomi playing 'the swan with the dragon tattoo'.
greedy american producers wanting to capitalize on a good thing. go make your own f***ing movies and let someone else seize their moment.
aussie2028 11 months ago
wow, noomi was so polite about being one upped. i hope for her sake, considering she won the best actress award in sweden for her portrayal of lisbeth, that the remake crashes and burns. she will be a hard act to follow. possibly because of her punk background as a teenager, she was able to combine the kinky side, the mysterious side, and the street wise side into what i thought was an extremely sexy character. i loved her (in all three movies, actually).

Why do a remake of an already awesome movie?!? It would be really wrong if hollywood got their hands on lisbeth...
ILikedThatCookie 1 year ago
Noomi is quite polite here saying that "they will do something interesting". But it seems many commentators agree that things can only get worse when americans try this.
While one can imagine the story being ported to America, one would have to completely forget Noomi since she is so perfect and nobody could possibly do it like her.
But who knows…

I seriously hope these girls are not the top 3 being considered :( I am a fan of Natalie and Ellen, but they are not badasses like Lisbeth. I would even consider Michelle Rodriguez even though she is not the most talented actress, but at least she's got edge.

typical americans wanting a remake because they're too lazy to read subtitles!
the film is perfectly easy to understand with english subtitles

@smallman1112 Here I am, an American, watching this video on YouTube because I was fascinated with the Swedish version with subtities... and I read your comment. Many people in the U.S. have seen the Swedish films and your comment only proves my suspicion that many outside this country that claim superiority to it are simply uninformed and prejudiced.

i think ellen page would be a great pick for this role. shes a good actor, especially for her age :)
and same goes to natalie portman, altho i cant really picture her with this sort of look. lol

@ayaworsky

It's simply insulting.

akristen0121 1 year ago 4
@akristen0121 True that! It's not only an insult to the Swedish film makers to think that they somehow need their films remade, but any actress coming after Noomi would simply be trying to be her. Sorry, but that's not flattery, it's insulting and they'd fall terribly terribly short of her accomplishment in that part. If they wanted to to the movie justice, simply release it as is in US theaters and stop trying to best whats already been so well done. Hollywood is so pathetic.

Please Hollywood, leave this alone. It'll probably end up being set in LA with product placement splashed throughout; for US companies of course. It will become another part of the US world propaganda campaign, in which nothing great is allowed to come out of any other country. It has to be Americanised for the world audience - Communism with American carachteristics.
themustardbaron 1 year ago 4
It would be ludicrous to do an "American version." Americans just need to grow up and learn to read subtitles like the rest of the world. I cannot imagine any of the named actresses doing this movie any justice. There are some good American actresss - great ones -- but American "blockbuster" directing tends to be bloated and cutsie -- or gratuitously stupid.

Nat4Brendan 1 year ago
I have never seen the original movie but devoured all the books. Truly a Swedish masterpiece!! I simply cannot picture someone like Kristen Steward playing Lisbeth Salander. Besides that an American remake seems to be a waste of time just like any other American remake of other European movies. Too American, too soft, too hollywood mainstream, and simply taking away from the uniqueness that made the story in the first place. Long live Europe and Swedish crime thrillers!!!

TLC2287 1 year ago
I don't think they're making an American version just so Americans don't have to read subtitles. It's to make money. An American movie can be marketed to Americans, and more Americans will pay money to see it. Simple. Even now, this movie is in limited release and in a handful of arthouse cinemas in the states.
After seeing this movie and Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth, I can't imagine another one or actress doing it. I think an American version will be a tragedy and will totally f*** it up.
mashoo0 1 year ago
