Been listening to the HOW The West Was Won version for so long now that this version seems kinda flat- except for Bonzo. But even labored Zep sound better than most. The added shots of Jimmy with dry hair, from another night (and some from a year later masquerading as the MSG) don't do it any favors at all.
Jimmy Page is the star of this song/video. His rendition is inspiring. Note, I wrote "is" and not "was" :-) for everyone out there that wants to improvise his talent/guitar playing style/technique... And the great recording mix makes it so enjoyable to listen to :-) Thank you for posting this classic! (now if only Plant had sung it like it was meant to be...)
Everyone is good except for Plant. He sings lower. He should sing high like in "How The West Was Won". And yes I know that Plant couldn't sing that hight after 1973 or so, but still, Hecant sing a song from the album that they realeasd that year?
@melo15813 don't listen to them man. When I started, this was one of the first song I learned. It took me like 2 months to feel I got it down really good. It might sound cliche, but all you need to do is practice and believe. Besides, its good to start off with a little challenge to see where your guitar skills stand and how you're going to challenge yourself in the future.
Not long. The Little nuances would take u a while but the song actually only has minimal chords. The main riff is D and G but you have to know the little "nuances" I mentioned to make it sound right.
@melo15813 Dear melo15813 - This is moderately advanced so i'd give it at least 2 years bcuz u'd have to learn to solo and play rhythmm and lead-guitar.
@melo15813 This is an advanced song. I learned it by ear and i've playin' guitar for 6 years, so this is probably not the song you should start with...
@goshawk1974 He's taking poetic license over his own songs, lol! I think it's really just like Jimmy doing improv, he never plays the same solo, and Plant likes to change up the lyrics.
@foolintherain100 the entire band was improvising constantly so Plant probably felt like he had to do SOMETHING different once in awhile himself. I don't always like what he decided to do onstage but I can understand why he felt like he should mix it up a bit
today, my geometry teacher was playing this song in class and someone called it boring, i almost died and so did many others on this day of infamy. i can guarantee john bonham is rolling over in his grave
jimmy page , in the 11/12 years with zeppelin he build his Legend , He IS the Best Electric Guitar Player EVER , he is really one in a million
all the others play very good etc , there are soo much good guitarists, but only page had so much styles , acoustic ,electric , he writes only good songs , and with led zeppelin there was NO fault , perfect BAND !!
Jimmy Page is God and the devil sold his soul to him
My father left us one day back in 1975. I will never forget walking by my brother's room. He had fallen asleep with Houses of the Holy on the turn table. When I peaked in this song was playing. There is hell on earth. But this song has always stuck with me since those crazy days. The song remains the same for me.......

@slavesbydesign What does Justin Bieber have to do with anything? Is it because he's a current popular singer? Were there no "Justin Biebers" in the 60's and 70's? Did Led Zeppelin ever have a top 100 hit? Does that make them an inferior artist? I understand your sentiment, which is repeated again and again in the message boards across. YouTube. However, because you love one artist does not give you a reason to disparage another. Peace.
@amancalledlum And yet among all your intelligent words you fail to understand my point... I don't know who Justin Bieber is. So would you mind telling me, who the fuck is Justin Bieber?
@slavesbydesign He's this kid who got famous cause he sings alright... but he's a shitty song writer and would not be where he is if he wasn't considered good looking.
This is great but Plant sings in a lower octave making him sound out of tune and less forceful than the studio version. Guess his voice wasn't up to the high version. Pity 'cause the rest of the band plays brilliantly here.
it's on 'The Song Remains The Same' DVD, you gotta look up the specials on Disc 2. Celeb Day and The Ocean is on that one, too as well as Misty Mountain Hop as far as I remember.
It sounded seductive anyhow, when he just said it - but especially considering all of the pharmaceuticals they've got me on these days, some "Acapulco Gold" would be great right about now!
I don't like how Robert Plant changes the melody in the "Many times I've.." parts. I like the studio version much better and this is probably the only Led Zeppelin that I think of that way
I don't like this concert in contrat to others before, robert plant doesn't belt it like he used to, especially on this song and rock and roll. I don't know if he was saving his voice or something because he definately gave it his all on the ocean. Versions from how the west was won were much better.
