  • This is nostalgic man. Me and my homies would taunt each other and make a remix. C'mon and C'mon and C'mon and fight C'mon and fight you wimp fight you wimp

  • youtube commenting sucks, too short for what i need to say. finally, like I was saying when you win matches you get Iron Gum shields n shit to boost your defense stats so dulling defense down at the beginning aint a big deal. Make a right handed guy and rotate between hitting low left jabs and high right jabs/hooks,and mix it up a little on certain guys. Once your speed and power is up enough you can beat the shit out of people this way with TKOs and KOs for lots of consecutive wins.;)

  • on a side note, when I finally lost to Holyfield after getting the belt, my record was 34-0. pretty nice. Beat his record for sure. hardest fight before the champ match was Number 2 ranked Rob (Robert) Hemphill, who also happens to be one of the programmers in the credits. You need full power and speed stats to beat him, I found that when you make your player you need to dumb down your defense stats halfway, and make sure your other stats are all fairly equal, you'll get Iron Gum Shields n shit.

  • @TheUnassisted42 yeah this is a year late, but yes, career mode does continue after defeating Holyfield. You fight a guy named Dave Stevis 2 times for $3 million+ each time, then Holyfield wants a rematch or 2 for $4 mill+. I defeated Holyfield 2 times after getting the belt, and on the 4th or 5th fight I lost and then a few new fighters popped up with crazy strength and speed stats (more than full stats for the player character) and kept tko'ing me in 1st round. Yeah you're fucked if you lose.

  • @dotdotdash2 Hey dotdotdash. Thanks for the reply. I was wondering after you've beaten Holyfield and he has fallen all the way down (and out) of the rankings, if you keep playing (no matter if you are forced to retire), if Holyfield randomly works his way back up the rankings at some point (from 30)?

  • If you colored your guy green and named him beast, you would start with full stats.

  • mick llonigan lol talk about stereotypes great old school game i used to get a semi after holyfield would be like "wow this guy is something special"

  • good fight with Joe steinman

  • Remember the all green person on that game?

  • this game engraved the phrase "break... box" into many young minds haha

  • I used to LOOOOVE this game.

  • SEEGAAAAA!!!!

  • nazi 0:40

Press 7, for ko... I love the way his feet actually leave the ground when he has been uppercutted...hilarious :)

  • This game was so fucking deadly.

  • This game was the bomb when i was in yr 9 at school. Must have been 15 years ago ish.

  • I got this for Christmas in 1993

  • I always thought the guy who said "Box!" sounded like Hank Hill.

  • its so halarious how they fall after getting knocked down

  • when i was a lil kid i loved my sega genesis so much man i would get suspende from school just to stay home and play sega all day

  • This game brings back memories.

  • Youtube Documentary - They Sold Their Souls For Rock And Roll

  • Brings back fond memories, great game, my hands used to hurt after playing this game from tapping the A B and C buttons on the controller so much... good times.

  • BAWKS

  • LOL dick steptoe

Used to love this game when I was a kid.

  • Best boxing game there is right here. Alan Beast Wildman West and Slo Mo Jones were the 3 toughest guys to beat. Does anyone know if you keep playing the career mode after you beat Holyfield, if they bring Holyfield back in the rotation at any point?

  • @TheUnassisted42 Haha true..my brother always passed me the controller once he got in trouble against Slo Mo Jones.

  • @TheUnassisted42 What i do remember is that you keep on playing, for high purses.

  • I have this game and everyfight you do after you reset the game will depend on how many times the guy gets up after he gets knocked down. In this case, no matter what, when the opponent gets knocked down, he stays down. If the opponent gets up once or twice, then he always get up once or twice.

  • 1st Fight - R1 29 Seconds

  • Without a doubt THE BEST boxing game for it's time, and I can still pick it up now and play it and have just as much fun with it as when I first got it!!

  • Best boxing game other than Punch Out. Classic

  • I used to looe beating the hell out of that Jim Khan, I think he'd pop up at light heavy

  • love how even in knockouts they have to bring you both to the ring to hold up one guy's hands. like there's drama in the situation. "Hey! I think the guy that got knocked out might have lost the fight!"

  • lol too true! :)

  • did anyone every notice the referees hair was always the same color as your opponents. i used to love j.d. laforge in this game.. i tell strangers thats my name.

  • Yep, noticed that too lol. It isn't only the opponent's hair though, it's also the skin color.

I remember using the "Beast" code back in the day and sometimes the referee would be green lol.

  • This was THE boxing game back in the day.. definately the most realistic, felt more like a simulation of boxing than any game before it.

  • this is still like in my top 3 fave boxing games ever

  • Just 2 let u know. That yr Evander Holyfield's real deal boxing parts 1 and 2 are in my playlist of classic games.

  • Cool, I'm glad that you appreciate them that much! :)

  • This game is awsome, I remember years age my dad beat this game It took him a long time. He got Holyfields body all red and finaly knocked him out.

  • is it hank hill saying "box"??

  • great fucking game i sill play it once a year and kick its ass

  • the create boxer music reminds me of the news.

  • Good observation, ironman36, I feel the same way :).

  • Besides some little graphical changes, how is this game any different than Greatest Heavyweights? They look like the same game.

  • Hi ioport, well I would say that the game speed is a lot slower compared to Greatest Heavyweights. Also, there are two fight strategies that lead to quick victories, whereas Greatest Heavyweights has a smarter CPU and therefore more strategies are needed for success.

Oh and Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing lacks the special combo system featured in Greatest Heavyweights. Hope this helps!

  • Thanks, that helps a lot. I was looking to get one or the other so I guess I'd be better off going with Greatest Heavyweights. Would you say Greatest Heavyweights is the best boxing game on the Genesis?

  • You're welcome, ioport! Yeah I would say that Greatest Heavyweights is the best boxing game on the Genesis, because it has a lot more options compared to most boxing games. Although Evander Holyfield's "Real Deal" Boxing is close behind.

The Career Mode in Greatest Heavyweights is really unique since the player can create odd colored fighters such as a blue skinned boxer with green hair for instance. This makes the creative process that much more fun.

  • Sounds fun. I'm going to get my hands on a copy. I'd like to create a freak boxer and take him to the top. BTW: Have you ever played the Muhammad Ali boxing game on the Genesis? I'm not sure if it would be any good. It does look a lot more arcadey, as in a button masher, and if it's anything like Buster Douglas Boxing I'd rather pass.

  • I only briefly tried Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Boxing on an emulator and it actually seemed worse than James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing. That is the reason why I never even bothered playing it and I have played the majority of 8-bit to 16-bit related boxing games.

  • Found a complete, seemingly unused copy of Greatest Heavyweights at a local shop a couple of days ago for 3 bucks! Nice luck, huh? :)

  • Yep great find, ioport! The thing is that most people don't know how good this game is and tend to sell it at a low price. The fact that it is a sports related game is probably another reason why it sells for so little. Anyway, I hope you have fun!

  • Well, this is probably one of the few boxing games that has a built in secret fighter in it. Have you ever tried putting in "The Beast" when creating a fighter in Career Mode, daminmancejin? It really makes the game fun, since the player starts off with full boxing attributes and controls a greenish, Hulk-like fighter.

  • i don't need the green guy i done that already.i just want to make a game genie code to make the character turbo fast in the game.

  • Okay, that's cool.

  • Yeah, breaking a game open in such a way can indeed be fun occasionally :)

  • Nice fighter!

but i would use the game genie to win this game to have fun.
