Passenger did survive the explosion and decompression of the plane, and they actually survived the entire falling to ground, but most of them died in ground hit moment. Some people actually survived the ground impact, and one passenger had handful grass in their hand. When the plane broke apart and fell, most of the passengers clothes were ripped away in decompression and they had to fight for their breath in 46 celcius frost in sky. i found this horrible information in wikipedia

Interesting tidbit though: A flight attendent was found alive in the cockpit section of the plane, but died before help could be found. Kind of remarkable, considering it was a 31,000 foot fall!

A few years ago, while looking for a grave of a relative, I was startled when I stopped & looked down to find I was standing at the grave of one of flight 103's victims. He was a classmate of one of my brothers. We didn't know he was laid to rest in that cemetery.

So, the Lockerbie Flight 103 tragedy hit home.

That terrorist should not have been released. His release sends the wrong message to terrorists, and it's a slap in the face to the victims and their families.
