vovinam is not a pure vietnamese martial art, it got mix with many others well know types like Judo, karate, teak kwon do, ect. I have no problem with Vovinam, but they should rename the name and what they said about Vovinam is Vietnamese Martial Art becuz it is not pure Vietnamese Martial Art. It is a copy from others arts with a little Binh Dinh lol. It should call Hot Pot Martial Arts becuz it got all in 1 called Vovinam lol. This is the life under the VC (Vietnamese Communist) after 30 years
let me tell you this, almost all martial arts in the world are mixed. Even shaolin martial art initially was from India, Karate from chinese martial art, or hapkido from judo, aikido, taekwondo and chinese martial art. But still, they (China, Korea, Japan) claim those martial arts theirs. There's no reason why VN cannot do the same thing.
@jirildo the initial shaolin guys knew no martial art. then one day a monk from india came to shaolin and found out that those shaolin guys were too weak to be good monks (or for some similar reasons). thus the guy from india decided to teach those shaolin guys the first martial art moves which were from an indian martial art training manual (or something like that). that indian guy now is worshiped as the "founding father" of shaolin martial art.
To be specific that ancient martial art is from a small southernmost state of India ,. the state is called kerala nd teh martial art is "kalarippayattu" which is still being practiced there widely. unfortunately, the only people who ignores that martial art is teh very natives , keralites !!!
tae kwon do are not pure korean MA. systema and sambo has no russian martial arts unless they got some kind of wrestling and maybe weapon techniques added in. krav maga isn't a pure israel MA .
realistically, majority of vietnamese martial arts are not pure vietnamese because they always evolve and adapt against those they fight.
however with vovinam, vietnam did fight russians, japanese, chinese, koreans, thais, philipinos, autrailians etc in the 20th century.
well nice performance, but unrealistic.
