  • the joystick look like atari2600

  • So is this something you built with a regular C64 and a screen? Ether way it's pretty cool.

  • "No safe ejecting here" We got a baddass here guys!

  • That Sir, is my dream computer. I wish I had the skills to build this one my self. Have you released schematics and is it possible to order a case like yours?

  • Were did you buy that wonderful Thing. I've alreday have an Commodore "Breadbox" 64

  • How can I get one of these?

  • Yes but ... what's up to the fuction keyssss ????? :s

  • It's like a C64 8-bit version of Grand Theft Auto IV

  • That's epic.

  • Hey, i am a Really Big Fan of your C64 Laptop (C64 p) and i want to ask how you made this Laptop because i want to make One too.

  • I was amazed with wonderment, great job! :D

  • I simply just wan this laptop. I wanna get my Commodore on!

  • Dang, why doesn't the companies that acquire the rights to the Commodore name and brand build stuff like this lappie? As opposed to a run-of-the-mill mediocre pc's with a C= badge on it, this sh!t I'd actuallu buy...!

  • @AssemblerGuy You got that right, I think the new Commodore is a sad PC clone. opposite of what TRUE users from the 80's would have wanted. This unit is exactly what I was hoping the new Commodore was!

  • will crysis2 work with this?

  • wow ... if you worked for commodore in the 80's they'd still be in business!

  • Without the function keys 1/2 the games won't work.

  • jad this for tmy intellivision 2

  • AWESOME JOB!

  • that laptop is sweet can you sell the disign to commodore they are making new C64s

    I made a c64 in to a "key-pro" with 5 inch monitor back in the 80s

  • I program my home computer. Beam myself into - the future.

  • Selfmade - the laptop too :D

  • @ benheckdotcom

Nice work dude i am impressive. But the most i like is your sarcastic comments, thats awesome ;)

  • so cool!

  • you should have your dad buy a FastLoad cartridge for you. That game takes 30 seconds to load on my C128

  • WOW!!!! You rock man!!!!!

  • Actually, we didn't use those very Atari2600-like joysticks back then either, at least we didn't after the great Epyx 500XJ came out. Nothing beat it.

It fit great in your hand and had 8 microswitches that let you know positively which way you were pointing the stick and you could do it with a very light touch. The Epyx was very durable due to those great switches, again, unlike most all other joysticks which would die after 3-4 months.

  • Ha! Who needs safe ejecting?

  • 10 years...done in 1998/1999?

  • It must go for days on a battery charge.

  • 10 years of loading ? Really? Computers now are faster than than a Commodore.

  • Absolutely amazing.

  • HAHAHAH ... now I feel old.

  • way better than my macbook lol jk

  • Wow, I need one of those!

  • when i was a lad back in the halcyon days in yorkshire we had one word which describes stuff like this and that word was "SKILL"!! it seems to have been replaced by "awesome" over the years but you get the picture... to say you were an Atari man, that thing sure is a labour of love! what can i say...pure skill man

  • That is beautiful Ben... I'm a Commodore guy and an Atari joystick plugged into a C64 is blasphemy. Just saying. ;)

This is a true work of art and ingenuity though, I pine for some C64 gaming on-the-go in such a sexy laptop form.

  • Super Cool! The C64 had tons of fun games. It was WAY ahead of it's time!

  • C64 using an Atari joystick? WTF?!?

  • You rule.

All i wanted to say, PERIOD.

    Hail to 8bit.

  • How long does the loading actually take :) ?

  • I was an ATARI guy!? You heretic you! :)

  • don't use atari joysticks on commodore hardware!!!

  • is that an atari joystick?

  • I want one :)

  • Fail you died in .5 seconds. xD

  • @xKidXHavokx hhhehhhhhh, but, he made hardware for you, and you wouldn't fail.

  • That's what the Commodore USA should design and sell, not that PC-in-a-C64-case crap that they plan currently!

  • ok

make a laptop is simple enough, the point is price:how much plastic and other stuff?

system commodore 64 is free, the only trouble is "create" lap top

same thing for amiga 500,hardware is free! the point very important is the original language, not power pc,it's unless power pc we must keep the original hardware with modern lap top or classic tower

    keep yourself alive,keep amiga alive!

    Kiss from Melbourne

  • I want to buy this!

  • It's a thing of beauty...

  • Doesn't it still connect to the old floppy drive and all the other peripherals designed for it?

    Does the tape drive work?

  • So whoever owns the rights to the commodore is not going get all "Legal" about this laptop?

  • Please ensure you're ALWAYS using the Safely Remove Hardware Wizard before ejecting a memory card! There could still be data in transit when you pulled the card.

  • Ewwwwww...an Atari joystick.

  • Ahhh, so that's where the loading screen of GTA Vice City came from!

  • @sirrvs no

  • @sirrvs Yeah, it did :)

  • @sirrvs Yup, I always told my friends that... they didn't believe me and I had to pull my old Commodore out of the attic and hook it all up to show them!

  • atari graphics were even better :)))

  • don´t complaint the c64 had a lot of varaity over the years.we love c 64....

    the pr founder of laptops.

  • don´t complaint the c64 had a lot of varaity over the years.we love c 64....

  • thats so cool. a commy laptop...cannt say i seen one before

  • Tech god !

  • holy shit ben, thats awesome

  • The commodore 64 has and SD slot because it could use the internet before it was invented.

  • OK; I'm building my own laptop. Some questions: There are 9 capasitors for the joysticksports (I think u rebuild them by urself), and I need to rebuild them myself because my case is too small. Are there any problems by letting the c64 run without them??? PLZ ANSWER :) THANKS !!!!

  • that is cool i would love to have something like THAT!!

  • halofame5stars.... look up video....The maga computer OFFICE SET UP

  • when did the c64 laptop come out?

  • Awesome!

  • I want one!

  • I AM amezed with wonderment! C64 laptop rulez... u powazz!!

  • I WANT IT!!!

  • Fake. Commodore 64 was well out of production before colour LCD screens came into production and when he is playing Thunder Blade, you can clearly see that the screen is digitally mapped onto the screen of the laptop. Nice thought tho!

  • This is a homemade laptop utilizing old commodore technology and modern stuff. Its not fake. Its a work of art.

  • @rochemedia It's not fake. He built this device last year.

  • LOLed to your comment about the joysticks. So true.

  • Sir Benheckdotcom...please, how do I get one of these sexy beasts? This has got to be the coolest thing EVER. Well, this and Spectrum 128K model too!

  • That was my first laptop

  • @maztertails mine was some old luggage from HP...kind of miss it (wanted to hollow out the insides and put new gear in....then see the looks on the faces of the people in the internet cafe when i power it up HA!

  • ive never seen a C64 laptop before i want one.

  • I want to buy this and take it into my college classroom

    .

Just imagine the looks of my students as I take notes in GEOSwrite. "How can you do word processing with only 64 kilobytes???" ;-)

    .

And to use the joystick, you wrap your hand around the stick like you do when looking at playboy. Jeez. For an "atari guy" you ought to know this stuff! ;-)

  • This C64 laptop looks awesome! Nice if you wanted to take it on a trip with you and loading off an SD card is genious. Nice vid.

  • i wish you would be quiet while demoing...

  • @cjeggers are you kidding me the commentary is the best part lol XD

  • since when commodore 64 support sd memory??

  • @hanrinch Since he modded it to.

  • does the board bios support this mod?

  • 1:32

  • @Deathwalker117 what about it? o.O

  • Comment removed

  • @jacelw96

    Nerdgasm lol

  • Oops nvm I was reading older comments and forgot I watched and commented on this ages ago... Ooops -.-

  • Can it connect to the net?

  • @girlstorm09

Yes as a matter of fact it can. C64's have ethernet cards as well as modems. Theres even a twitter client for it called breadbox64.

  • How does the Commodore 64 laptop have an SD slot?

  • @OmegaWolf747 It's not stock. It's a heavily modified custom Commodore 64. Old school look with "some" new school technology.

  • @OmegaWolf747 Obviously he added one.

  • @OmegaWolf747 I believe there was a third party expansion card designed that could take SD cards. There was also one that you could use to connect an IDE CD-ROM drive to it. I'd imagine this card was modded and used in this build.

  • @OmegaWolf747

The C64 can be modified so instead of reading from floppies it can read off of any form of medium--whether it be a hard disk, solid-state disk, or connect to remote storage over a network. This one type of modification is the 1541-III and is built into the computer.

  • @OmegaWolf747

    cause its the 2000 commadore

  • @OmegaWolf747 because this guy made it? Its a mod using the userport if i remember well...

  • is it running an emulator or what

  • I don't really remember the commodore laptop.. I had an SX-64 tho..where did u get this laptop ?

  • @xadam2dudex he made it himself :D

  • @xdeadstarpsyclonx yeah they didn't have LCD displays then..amazing build with the molded case..too bad he can't make em for cheap with a patched OS so it can access a HD or a Flash drive

  • @xadam2dudex he is accessing a flash drive to store the program rom's on

  • You do realise that you are using an Atari joystick don't ya? Quickshot joystick tons better.

  • Maaaan, you build this laptop but don't have an mmc replay or 1541 Ultimate installed?

File system and loading is stoopidly easy and fast then.

Nice work though.... for an Atari guy :P

  • I didn't know Commodore had a laptop.

  • Try to run Cauldron by Resource or Deus Ex Machina by Crest

You can search for these demo's on pouet(.)net guarantee you you will be impressed.

  • what??? how is there an SD slot on an 80's computer? please explain this!

  • @RWDtech I think, he built it.

  • must have!!!!

  • it would have been a topseller in the 80's.

  • You need one of those FastLoader Cartridges, that had a Disk Operating System on a cartridge.

  • Have...to...get...that

The C= 64 laptop is so awesome!!!!

  • put IE on it so u can go on internet lol

  • I want to buy one of these!

    I love 80's technology :D

  • Load Pokemon in there XD

  • The commentary is epic

  • will it run crysis. LOL

  • Fantastic!!

  • I had Jupiter Lander for my commodore 64. I'm so glad that computers

nowdays are so much easier to use than just the basic programing.

    methodistgirl

  • Drool...

  • den är kol c64

  • Wow, I didn't even know they had laptops back then; muchless that there was a commodore 64 laptop ever.

  • @Yobachi2007

The closest thing to a laptop was the SX-64, a luggable.

This is a homebuilt laptop. Would love to know how it was done.

  • How old is this laptop?

  • How much to buy one of these? Seriously? I have a C128 I'm willing to hack up for this...

  • Does it have internet?

  • cool

  • Impressive demo, can you still plug in a 1541 disc drive into it?

Back then I used the classic Wico command joystick instead of the Atari. The cheap Atari's always wore out in a year or two.

  • I', a dork....comma eight, comma one.

  • amazing. i want to buy one

  • I eventually ended up just using a Sega Genesis controller with the 64. Works perfect.

  • @mackhine Yeh I noticed that Megadrive/genesis controllers were compatible

  • Very, very nice! Makes me flashback to my high school days! Bonus points for using a classic Atari 2600 joystick. Which one of your books is this "laptop commodore" from? Or is this just an internet exclusive thing?

Anyway nice work, bets the hell out of the old SX-64 portable commodore computer they tried back in the day

  • try to play modern warfare 2 :p

  • Does this laptop get internet or no?

  • @girlstorm09

    compunet

  • i wanna take one of these bad boys to starbucks

  • @thugdoutDUNN

    He made it.

  • @lowview Of course by Nerd u mean - U bow down and worship his greatness and U shall be known as Newb . . .

  • I am, without sarcasm, amazed with wonderment. How did you do that?

  • dudddeee where the hell did u get that laptop!!?!?!?

  • The Joystick is an Atari joystick from the old 2600 its not a proper c64 joystick

  • What a nice laptop :). Just take it to the cafe and enjoy WIFI :D.

  • Put the controller on the TABLE, you n00blet! ;-)

  • No WAY! :) Though putting in on the table does help with cramps. :)

  • ok, everybody are bad asses. u 2. :x

  • when was this lap top made? did you make it?

Flat screens have only been out for a short while ay?

  • @aaronm222

this is a mod he made. this guy makes lots of consoles into laptops (i guess flat screens are new if you consider 15 years a short time)

  • dude, badass.

  • @UltraWill

    me? why?

  • I was talking about the guy that built this C64 lappy, but I'm sure you're a badass gent as well!

  • Nice machine. ;) Where can I get it? Any german sellers? U know if its able to use the keyboard from the C116 in a c64? Can't find the pinout. There are 18 pins too :)

I know the original keyboard is better, but I build my own laptop this time and maybe the original is to high.

  • I've got Golden Axe for the C64. :-)

  • your mods are amazing!

  • ye at long last music

    {:~P

  • 10 years of loading XD

  • how does a commodore 64 have a secure digital slot on it

  • Fantastic piece of kit, i'd love to get my hands on one of these. I own several Commodore machines, & my love of games etc, began with the mighty C64 back in the late 80's, & i still love the 64 as much now as then. Plus the current C64 demo scene is mind blowing, the things those super talented coders are making the 64 do is truly stunning. You should review some more classic games, you're funny here & your bit about the game taking years to load cracked me up lol, very true though. Cheers.

  • You put the joystick on a surface! It isn't a playstation pad!

  • Coming from a die-hard C64 head, this is officially one of the coolest things I have ever seen. I NEED one of those NOW!

  • this is awesome!!!!!!

  • @aegniiai your gay!

  • Quite correct about the Atari OS.

It was much better than the C64.

The Atari 400/800 OS was better engineered, as was the hardware. Pity Jay Miner couldn't design better hardware for the Amiga - he really only produced a minor iteration of what he did for the old 8 bit Atari.

  • Thats crazy! I never heard of a C64P!
