I love this song but I think it makes much more sense that Pat and Margy sing it in the musical because we're seeing her doubts about being with Pat and so it's his kinda convincing song
If anyone has seen the Rogers and Hammestein documentary, you'll know what I'm talking about. This song was originally supposed to be in a scene where he's showering and singing this song in the shower... they changed it. Also, the scene where his sister sings "It might as well be spring" was originally sung in the dress that Shirley Jones holds in the Oklahoma! song Many A New Day when she mentions buying a new dress... Cool stuff :D
The thing I love about Vivian Blaine in this movie is you can tell how closely she listens to Haymes when they interact (which you can see in both this song and "Grand Night for Singing").
I wholeheartedly love the kind of people who watch this. Who, even on Touyube are courteous. such class, such intelligence. And analogy: Jesus was great, but put together, his disciples did more good(count me secular on that one). The people are wondrous.
the first eight notes dont change... now that is genius, deliberately using the same unchangeable eight notes and still producing a melodious memorable masterpiece
i just bought this for 98 p from Amazon UK (with the 1962 version thrown in !!) along with special features...R & H'stein at piano and we just loved it. its the only R & H musical I hadnt seen...I just love how when she's at the fair, the music of the Spring song she earlier sung, is being played over the pipe organs.. R & H knew how to milk a melody
Rogers and Hammerstein were both musical and cinematic genius' not only of their time but our time as well. The movies they created were always great! I grew up on these movies. If it was possible to have favorites I would have to say The King and I and of course The Sound of Music are mine.
I hate to admit it - but I love this colorized version! This will give me a great excuse to watch one of my favorite R&H creations yet one more time (as if I needed an excuse). This version is so much classier than the Ann Margaret version.
I made the same mistake. This was filmed in color - that's why it looks so good. There was actually a version earlier than this and that, I think, was in B/W.
Boy, are my ears red! I checked with the original movie poster and how right you are. I can't wait to see the movie again in "real" technicolor. Thanks for setting me straight on this.
love this colorized version but have to admit- Ann-Margret heats up the screen with an incredible Dance routine that gave us only a glimpse of what an amazining mega star she would be and a wonderful humanitarian entertaining the troops in Viet Nam- Give me Ann- Margret any day... She is a lifetime entertainer who has done it all
this is one of my favorite songs and musicals of all times. i love the time period it's in. the actors. the singing. the story. it's just all so great and simple and pretty.
Many thanks for uploading this lovely song. Dick Haymes had such a wonderful voice and remains perhaps my favourite crooner of all. The lovely Vivian Blaine creates a stellar pairing for this beautiful song that I just love listening to. Thank you for sharing.
@cendrillon325 - This is the most darling song. I love this musical so much -- thank you!

Some complaints about inserted insulting scenes in this movie/story, but over all I say its a wonderful movie.

This took FOREVER to load! Like 15 minutes! YouTube doesn't give videos with low "views" as much bandwidth as other videos!
We knew you were trying to do this, and now you're doing it.
Everyone WITNESS the beginning of internet censorship!
