  • I remember playing Jet Set Radio on the Xbox years ago, I loved it.

  • I thought the Dreamcast died because you was able to burn the games instead of buying them...At least thats what I heard.

  • @ENZOtaki It's true that you can burn some games on a CD and play them on the Dreamcast but I don't think that was why it died. To rip the games you would need a GD disc reader (GD was kind of an oddball format with about ~1GB of storage, which was why SEGA didn't use DRM) which were scarce then and now. Some games like Shenmue had more storage space than a CD could handle so that game can't be burned onto a CD anyways.

  • I miss my dreamcast. Spawn was the shit.

  • I'm suprised you didnt mention Phantasy Star Online...seeing as around that time there wasnt many games that actually went online and did it so well. PSO was the first game i had that i could go online with and i was blown away to be able to talk to people around the world never seen anything like it before.

  • @100PercentTHCfilms i'd love to see it but ius never going to happen at this rate

  • Dreamcast 2, DO IT SEGA DO IT!

  • got my dreamcast hooked up at the moment

a great pick up and play console

  • You really should have mentioned Phantasy Star Online. It would have let viewers know how the online adapter was put to good use.

  • Great vid dude, thanks.

  • ITS A VISUAL MEMORY UNIT!!!!!! YYYYYY UUU SSAAAYY NNNOOOO

  • you havent done genesis OH SNAP!

  • Phantasy Star Online :(

  • Where do you buy all your stuff? I am uber jealous at the fact you were able to get all of that for a low price!

  • I got this consle for £10 in my local car boot sale

  • They could of made a add on of a dvd player instead. Hopefully they wouldn't make games for that.

  • CRAZY TAXI!!

  • i own one of these

  • looking for a woman and leaves the game, stop masturbation

  • I still can't believe I gave my Dreamcast away ;(... at first it looked like a good deed for a friend in need of video games, but to later realize that he NEVER paid attention to it, makes me SO MAD!!!

  • @WaBooLax There are always emu-oh wait those are hard to configure.

  • I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about just how easy it was to burn and play games on the Dreamcast. The fact that all it took was a cd burner and a blockbuster membership to own just about whatever game you wanted for a whopping $10 probably helped bury the Dreamcast.

  • So has anyone heard of the DreamCast 2 that's been rumored to come out?

  • so came along the Nintendo Wii which played GameCube games (finally a console with proper backwards compatibility) and now we have four similar machines. the dreamcast was huge. the GameCube was even bigger (not to mention all the dreamcast games ported to the gamecube that kept the consoles lifespan fueled. successful games that were ported. sonic adventure 1 (directers cut on the gamecube or sonic adventure DX) ending my rant on similarities, wait what was i talking about?

  • i believe the dreamcast was the early version of the nintendo gamecube. (some music disks on ebay are smaller than usual, and most resorted to the gamecube but failed with rage. techies turned to the dreamcast and also failed. the small music disks were actually for the macintosh {yeah go figure since it has NO MACINTOSH symbol on the disk at all}) so the only similar game consoles (and computer) were the gamecube (disk and addon) dreamcast (disk and more addons) and the macintosh (disk only)

  • alright. listen to this. remember the nintendo gamecube? some believe it was the ressurection of

the dreamcast (which went on for only a few years but eh.) the nintendo gamecube had the same disk system only by the disk size. both were capable of running similar games but the gamecube had the same flaws as most consoles do. like the nintendo viewer (came with a disk to run the add-on and was flawed because if you scratched the disk too much it became useless)

  • i love your review man, but why didn't you mention Crazy taxi as one of the most memorable games

  • Adverts for scientology!? Really!?

  • LONG LIVE DREAMCAST!!!!!

  • I had to use 160 Euros for mine. European Dreamcast, which is recognaizable from the Blue Swirl logo is the rarest version of the machine.

  • I might get cuz of the virtual memory thing

  • Current Prices:

    Sega Dreamcast: $199.00

    Play Station 2: $50-60

Sega dreamcast had alot of value to fans. Speaks volumes

  • @bcfrombc2008

Number of Dreamcast units out there: 10 million

Number of PS2 units out there: 150 million

$199 compared to $50 = four times the price - for an item that is FIFTEEN TIMES rarer.

Not to mention, nobody pays $199 for a Dreamcast... not even in 1999. OHHH

  • @taicleis All I'm saying is that the Sega Dreamcast had alot of value to fans don't believe me? Look at the top comments.

  • @bcfrombc2008

I know, I know. I'm just pointing out that it didn't have ENOUGH fans.

Sometimes being ahead of your time isn't a good thing. A good system isn't just about what the system offers; it's about how much of that offering is relevant to the consumer. Dreamcast was a bit like the tablet PCs that were being released years before the iPad. Same idea, but nobody cared.

  • @taicleis Yup, as a PCgamer I can say PC's are *ALWAYS* going to be ahead of their time. Put their always a third wheel for developers.

  • @bcfrombc2008 should i get another dreamcast?

  • @Jklemp24 Well, as I am young per say it was the first console I played (not the first I owned) I loved dreamcast to death to the point of I'm going to end up getting one so, really I would say do it but you can always wait till' summer and get it at a garage sale (What he did.)

  • You forgot Phantasy Star Online - huge selling point as MMOs weren't really around then except on the Dreamcast.

  • The two game I remember playing on the Dreamcast are Crazy Taxi and 18 wheeler.

  • Thumbs up if you still have a Dreamcast and it still works till this day.

  • I miss you dreamcast.

  • YOU FORGOT POWERSTONE FOR DREAMCAST YOU BASTARD BEST GAME ALL TIME

  • how many people are going to f this up?!

The VMU is a visual memory unit, not virtual. Give it the god damn respect it deserves and call it by the proper name you "retro" gamer!

  • I love dreamcast i have a 2 console! sonic adventure, draconus,shenmue,quake 3 arena,headhunter,4wheele thunder,msr,phantasi star online,grandia,skies of arcadia,soldier of fortune,sega gt,tokyo racer 2,red dog,sonic shuffle,18wheeler,resident evil Veronica,sword of berserk,nba on nbc,soul calibur,unreal tournament,v rally,panzer front,recor of lodoss war,crazy taxi,half life, 2k sports was a great nfl,nhl,nba,tennis... great games!!!

  • i got my dreamcast for 65 dollars and it came with 1 cheap third party controller

  • I want to get jet set radio and jet set radio future so badly

  • The dreamcast was better than the ps2

  • @Ki113r2073 I'm sorry to say that I don't think so. Even though I love dreamcast, PS2 just had better library of these AAA-games.

  • Resident Evil code Veronica was a great game for Dreamcast

  • I was a Sega fanatic in my younger days but then converted to PS(1, 2 & now 3). But I bought the Dreamcast a few years ago just to play Shenmue and it was unreal......still one of my favorite games ever. It's a shame Sega is no longer in the console business.

  • i love the dreamcast but the ps2 is the best gaming system ever!

  • What about chu chu rocket and phantasy star online?

  • Awesome system... Too bad that the Sony Steamroller just had too much momentum right out of the gate... I don't think it was the "ease" of pirating games that brought down the Dreamcast... Heck, it was technically easier to pirate PS2 games IMHO. The biggest factor? EA. Like em or not, when one of the world's largest publishers decides not to publish games for your system, you're done. NFL 2K was pretty awesome, but I think that Madden on the Dreamcast would have outsold it. Despite that, the 2

  • A great system but the ps2 was way better!

  • Im still hoping for dreamcast 2

  • This system is so under rated

  • @vmmini91 it funny it the only system that nintendo rip off

  • Pirating and copying video games also had a big effect on the dreamcast lifespan.

  • Dreamcast.....GREATEST SYSTEM EVER

  • @LordWhorfinX2 and i still have one SPLEE! X3

  • @my9tailedfox Same here, in my arcade machine :D

  • @LordWhorfinX2 YEAH!....except Wii and Wii U

  • Loved the Dreamcast, played it when it first came out, and loved it so much I bought one this year! I'm 19 years old and I play my Dreamcast more than my Xbox... suck it microsoft!

  • I remember lining up for the midnight release. I was 15, I think. Love the Dreamcast!

  • Wait, the Dreamcast is Retro? Jesus, I'm only 19 and this thing came out in my lifetime.

  • I'm trying to work on a video but AHHH I can't stop watching! lol

  • POWER STONE WAS THE SHITTTTT!

  • I wish more people would mention power stone and power stone 2, I still whip out my dreamcast every once in a blue moon to play those games. The coolest thing I remember about this console is that I was able to take my chao pets out of sonic adventure and play with them on the memory card.

  • I remember having a dreamcast and enjoyed playing games like Sonic Shuffle...and the two sonic adventure games.

  • what about sonic adventure 2! :(

  • Repeated the mistake about the playtation being better at handling polygons again, sigh. Sony claimed a number which, along with the ps2 and ps3, the machine could never actually get anywhere near - the Saturn could. The dreamcast needed to have dvd from the start to stand a chance really, that along with Sega being stabbed in the back by EA (claimed they would support it then never bothered) were the two biggest nails in the Dreamcasts coffin.

  • I think Sega were pre-mature, if they kept the Dreamcast and just added new accessories and kept up with games they would of still sold. A new controller with a second thumbstick would of been so good cause i cannot figure out how Soldier of Fortune played on the Dreamcast

  • You didnt touch upon powerstone!!! That game rocked!!!

  • I had one DC

  • Shenmue is still the best game I've played until today.

I doubt I'll find any game that can top that..

Shenmue had an actual story line that took many hours to complete.. The new games have like 10 hours worth of story.. that's one day of playing for a gamer like me.

  • It failed you dumbshits because of GAYSTATION 2, and Sega was losing out on the console war, so they restructured their company to focus solely on developing games. Thats why you see Sega games on Nintendo, GAYSTATION and XBOX you dumbass kids. Before it was only Nintendo and Sega, no XBOX, and hell no GAYSTATION.

  • Did anyone notice the first xbox having sega like controls? Could it be like a successor to the dreamcast? at launch it had Jet set radio and some racing gaming but it also had some of the games that were on dreamcast but revamped . Or maybe sega decided just to distribute software for other systems?

  • I think that the Sega and Nintendo fans agree that Sega should re-enter the hardware industry one last time and team up with Nintendo to take down Sony.

  • @TheTechConnection Ever played granturismo on a ps3?

  • Could you talk about the dream cast why it faild

  • ken jeong?

  • you forgot gauntlet legends....for dream cast..that was my favorite..

  • I pirated 50 dreamcast games today.

  • No Powerstone ? No Skies of Arcadia ? Srsly ?

  • Swedish milkmaid wtf? ;D

  • Was also that you can burn any game

    Thats why it failed lol

  • SOUL CALIBURRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Agetec Goblins are definitely not easy to mod by modern (read:Madcatz fightstick/HRAP) standards. It's got quick connects but that's pretty much it, no Sanwa or Seimitsu parts will fit without loads of grinding (PROTIP: don't breathe the burning plastic fumes)

  • Srsly? Seamen?

  • hahah Swedish milkmaid LOL! im swedish =D

    at 1:46

  • I remember when I was in Highschool there was a video game store across the street and at lunch we would go over and "test" the Dreamcast.

  • il be honest....the toy story game for dreamcast gave me nightmares -shiver-

  • I would really want to see an review of the Nintendo Satellaview and the Zelda games for it. the voice acting is amazing! Thanks for all your great videos.

  • Chu Chu Rocket. That is all.

  • You totally forgot the best fighting game in the Dreamcast library (opinion of course) Powerstone and Powerstone 2.

  • Oh gosh. 0:10 = Nostalgia boner. Best system of all time!

  • I had one and my parents threw mine out :C

  • @AQWMalkoir your parents are assholes

  • BEST SYSTEM EVER!

  • are you god?

  • I like my Dreamcast but I can't figure out how to play games on my VMU!

  • Love the dream cast it is so fun!

  • I don't like this review, where's the part where you show or play the console???

  • @beans4dmasses its tech information not demonstration

  • the real reason it died was because of the accessability to play burnt cds and lack of third party support off the bat. those two ='d hundred millions lost, after a year and a half no one bought games because you could get them for free thats why it died. Sony didn't kill DC, sega killed DC with it's mistake... get that fucking right,

  • What happened to Capcom vs SNK 2 on the fighters? =(

  • i gotta be honest, when i think back to it, i dont remeber seeing many of its games being advertised, i played jet set radio but never seen a commercila for it.ps2 on the other....shit i still hear that whoop warping sound in my head

  • yeah why didnt you talk about powerstone. probably one of the best games on the dc

  • I still have my DC hooked up. You ever had some beers with friends and threw on some Power Stone? Good times!

  • "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long."

"The Candle" lol. Nice "favorite quote" though, you only messed it up a little.

  • I thought the main reason the Dreamcast failed was because it was so easy to pirate games for it?

  • I love the PS2 and all, but lets be honest. The ONLY reason people went Lady Gaga over the PS2 is because of it's "revolutionary" dvd player. I mean REALLY!? People always claim that Sony is the one's who always does something "revolutionary" and "ground breaking" when it was really Sega the was really shaping the way of the future of Gaming. Sega was the first to bring 3D polygon games, the first to have CD Rom gaming disk, and the first to have online gaming. Sony was just sampling the recipe.

  • @krocialblack

People went "Lady Gaga" over the PlayStation 2 because of it's brand name, the very fact that it bore the word "PlayStation", Sega's at the time was a laughing stock. Hell, the only people I know that got a Dreamcast (besides myself), ironically came from the PS1.

Think logically, if people were only buying PS consoles based on their media capabilities, then what on earth happened to Sony's market share with the PS3? It should've crushed the 360 by now right?

  • @krocialblack in the end its not who makes the rifle, its who attaches the silencer to it.sony is well known for NOT having original ideas, but they sure as hell no how to 1 up everybody . if i had to say system wise ps3 is better than 360.as you know though 360 is more famous and i think DC failed for the same reason, in the end ps2 had more, better games. its not about the system as much as it is whats on the system

  • i got ps3 and exbox 360 .... and i still have my DREAM CAST !! .. and i say its the best ever the dream cast and it game better than ps3 and xbox 360 specialy (sonic adventure 2 ) its awesome

  • actually sonic r was on the sega saturn it was 3d

  • ONLY 20 BUX??!!! Now its selling for like 70 to 40

  • Se preparem porque os meus jogos vao acabar com os joguinhos de voces em breve ...

  • can u talk about the nes?

  • I actully found my dreamcast in my house

  • I just brought a Dreamcast and im going to start collecting all the shit for it. I also like how dreamcast got classics games from PS1 and N64 like Rayman 2 and Tony hawk but looked night and day better.

  • Thanks Will... I am now going to buy a Dreamcast ... again!!! lol. Seriously though, I LOVED my Dreamcast and thought it was a much better system than PS2, but, It's very difficult to take down the Sony beast.

  • Dreamcast ruled in my eyes and still does . Its my only cd console that still runs to this day . Unlike my playstation and ps2

  • Am I the only one that laughed at the game "Seaman"?

  • @thrufireandflame you kidding? the game is hilarious!! watch a playthrough and you will die laughing! :)

  • Lol, ever heard of the Angry Video Game Nerd? He's the Asian Video Game Nerd.

  • hey its got a screen on teh controler just like wii u

  • I just bought one W00T!!! It's an awesome console to!

  • but howcome was the gamecube was able to keep up with ps2 even tho it was faced with defaults of the disk readings?

i thought dreamcast was better than the gamecube :/

  • HI

  • All dreamcast consoles came packaged with a modem (it's part of the system and looks kinda weird without it), it's false that they came without one in japan. I have a launch japanese dreamcast in box. However in the u.s they got a 56k modem instead of the 33.6k modem the model in japan and europe came with.

  • dreamcast is not retro ...

  • @Seiferzed Dude, we are getting old, yes 12 years is more than enough for something to be retro lmao. I know it don't seem so long ago, hell you can still say it was only last gen, but consoles should have come out by now, so it should already be 2 generations back.

I love my Dreamcast, and will never part with her, she has gotten me some pretty rough times.

  • Dreamcast was awesome, some of my all time favourite games were on that system including of course Shenmue 1&2. I'm still waiting for no3 lol

  • Favorited because of the Blade Runner quote and Fringe reference ;)

  • anouther reason for the dream cast failing is that EA games did not support the system and back in 1999 EA games was the second biggest video game company in the world

  • Oh man I remember that! Mine got stolen 2 years ago... Why they didn't steal any of the better gaming systems? The world will never know.

  • @cullen823 because there is no better gaming system! the Dreamcast is the Chuck Norris of the Game Console world!

  • @ZypherZZZ10 what dumb ass bought you 3 more after you broke the first one?!?!

  • @Moistcabbage1 I had a warranty bro. Thank good too xD

  • Phantasy Star Online -_-

  • u should do one for the snes

  • SEAMAN-SEAMEN oh ok sorry

  • Talk about the mega64 system plz.

  • Thumbs up if u came here from the yogscast ;P

  • dream cast i remeber looong ago when i was like 5 when i played that zombie game i was good at it

  • what about powerstone!?

  • I wish more people would show the comment they're responding to in their video.

  • you should meet athenes brother

  • Still have my Dreamcast I bought in 1999 working. *sigh* I feel old.

  • hehehe, he said duty

  • 20 bucks... WAAAT

  • i went to a old store and they wanted 50$ for the dreamcast and 75 for sonic adventure

  • please review the cbs electronics console; Coleco vision which featured donkey kong, looping toetanchamon

  • hey you forgot the cbs electronics....

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. house of the dead .. the best zombie game ever !

  • dreamcast came out on ma birthday :D

  • "Swedish Milkmaid" is a very useful phrase if you want to kill zombies^^

  • heheheh playstation and xbox were elite before the wii made gaming with motion possible, and the 3ds with the 3d without the glasses.. now they are making the wii u, a controller that you can play on while watching tv. Nintendo will live on forever.

  • @fantasyplay1 then playstation made there motion controller and xbox did the same. Nintendo will soon be over.

  • @okyyy3 still, nintendo will be more elite by the time Xbox 720 comes out...

  • @fantasyplay1 true xbox consoles seem to relie on simple pc hardware, i still have hopes for the ps4 as there technology matches with pc gaming. Nintendo is starting to get repetitive and the same, if Wii U dosent have anything new, then Nintendo will surely fail. And PC gaming will go on forever.

  • Jetset radio was fun.

  • This is one of the best channels ever, thank you yogscast for showing me this!

  • I'd like to see you do something on the SEGA Master System (II)! Keep up the good work.

  • OMG CRAZY TAXI

  • BEST SYSTEM EVAR. PLAY SONIC ALL THE TIME
