  • im having the same problem. my hair wont grow past my clavicle

  • My hair right now has hit a plateau, in fact part of it is --- It's at the back the portion at the nape of my neck - my hair hasn't grown in like 6 months but everywhere else is. I cut it way back last year is September, and that area, grew up to a point and then stopped. I have tried everything I could think of, but it wouldn't budge. Any suggestions, anyone. would be deeply appreciated.

  • my hair had crazy breakage even wet. Then I started conditioning 2 eggs for 1/2 before showering. Just two uses reduced my breakage by 75% I also put castor oil on my ends. Works a charm.

  • what is bsl?

  • protect your ends and watch out for those splits and your hair will grow to the length you want...your hair never stops growing. it grows at an average rate of 1/2 to 1/4 of an inch every month...it doesnt stop but if you are having breakage you wont retain length. handle your ends with the upmost care and you will see the difference.

  • I just wanted to say thanks for introducing me to La Jay ERRRBODY loves her:D

  • Just wanted to come by and say thanks for La Jay ERRBODY loves it!!!!

  • I just saw your video and felt compelled to leave a note. I completely understand what you are going through. You are not alone on this issue. I take very good care of my hair and eat right 98% of the time. However, for the past year, my hair has been at the same length. I am utterly frustrated. Today, I have decided that I must stay away for hair blogs for a while, because the more I see other folks hair growing like a weed, the more frustrated I become.

  • @phillydiva...ohhh okay cool. Hang in there hon. I'm sure its just what you are thinking. Watching your hair grow is like watching paint dry. Lol we all go thru it.

  • ****a few things. be CAREFUL w/the protein. if you are already struggling w/moisture, regular protein treatments will cause breakage if your moisture game is not up to par. Also as far as length, everyone has a terminal hair length. There is a point where your hair has grown as long as it will grow based on your DNA. Not everyone can grow bsl or wl hair so look at your family & your length as a child & it'll give you an idea of how much length you can expect.

  • @feliciachanel my hair has been and is capable of growing beyond bsl...my daughter is beyond this length and she is 3 yrs old...all the women in my family currently have short hair (by choice) but my mom and aunt had hair beyond bsl when my age...not worried but thanks.

  • @feliciachanel

length is kind of hard to determine even looking at family members. i was the 1st woman in my family to go natural and the future of my length is completely unknown. not only that- we pull so many different genes from different members identical twins can look different. (i know how it sounds and thats how i meant it.) peace

  • Have you tried measuring your hair and taking pictures of it every month?

  • I feel the same way, Im gonna make a vid response when I get caught up :)

  • Are you measuring your hair for length checks. Your hair only grow a quarter of an inch to a half inch a month. SO are you checking the length by measurement to see if it is growing. Your hair is thick and it may look the same and actually be growing and you just can't see it. Or maybe it is in your care of it when you are shampooing, conditioning and combing it. I had to start being SO MUCH MORE GENTLE as my hair grew longer. Definitely deep conditioning weekly will help. BE BLESSED!

  • maybe your hairs going through the phase where it stops growing for a bit( I think its called the telogen phase). I'm not sure though, I ain't a scientist, but you could look into it if you really think it ain't growing.

But its probably because you look at it everyday like you said

  • Ms. PhillyDiva. Thanks for the video. I have a question, how long does LaJay lasts while wearing her daily? I have one, but don't wear it daily, just curious. Thanks

  • @julbennes a few months...just take off at night

  • I don't know if anyone has suggested this, but you should start a photo diary to track your progress.

  • where are your earrings from? i love them!

  • my love affair with oil drives my husband crazy! i mess up the pillow cases, he can't touch my hair because the oil gets on his hands, and so on. how to you avoid the oiliness? perhaps i'm using too much. HELP!

  • When I put parachute cocount oil on my hair my hair started growing fast...half a inch in 2 1/2 weeks..parachute brand only.

  • Oh yes increase protein..plain yogurt is perfect

  • Christina I feel you...when I had those braids in my hair, my hair grew so much...bbbd said natural hair is very anti social..it doesnt like to be messed with...i would try her hair plan..wouldnt hurt anything just to try it...it helped me a bit.

  • PhillyDiva you are beautiful I love ur videos !!

Anywhoo :-) I too am going through this same issue ... I have chosen to go back to my handy dandy MICROS! :-) (as I sit here in big plaits gettn ready to wash them ) for a few months I was wearing lace fronts also. I find that if I keep my hair braided during the winter months I achieve maximum growth.

Ohhh and BTW I'm from Philly too!! Have a very Happy New Year ...

  • also the weaves and lacefronts might be messing with your head, because you see your hair long when you are out and you come home and it is shorter and it might make you frustrated. i think the best thing to do is what you mentioned and focus on your overall health and well-being. stress can affect your hair for sure!

  • you might want to try taking vitamin C or eat foods rich in vitamin C because it promotes hair growth

  • super cute shirt...where did you get it from??

  • @negatory2 Forever21

  • i am having the same issue. i saw a pic of me this same time last year and my hair only grew about three inches but its a lot thicker. do you know any good inexpensive weave i could use for a sew in?

  • I just did a protein treatment last night, a lil messy and runny with the egg but the treatment gave my hair some shine and it felt good. I have a twa so I have a long way to go, so just keep rocking your protective styles, stick to your treatments and regimen and go on a hair growth mission. Good luck girly, and I sure didn't hear you say anything about going back to relaxer so ppl really need to listen b4 they go running their mouth.

  • aww girl i totally know how you feel, please stay encouraged, you got followers and friends who want to support you through this tough time but i think everything will be okay, you can do it :)

  • When I reach my (creative) Plateau, I just weave it up, like you said, "out of sight out of mind"--it works. When I take out my weave and I see my hair, I'm looking at it with fresh eyes and then I feel like I have a new palette to work with. And LoL I'm with you on that no more new product. #brokphibroke. I'm so done with all that foolishness. Whatever I have left better work cuz I ain't buyin' NO MO!

  • Are you going to use the juju hair?

  • @kagome304 yes and many others (brands)...

  • I am going through this on again off again relationship with going natural and using relaxers. Its like I so desire to have natural hair but new growth drives me crazy and I have to do the out of sight out of mind type thing. But I end up missing my hair so much. I have chosen to try it again and this time stick to my decision. I know that my hair would grow beautifully without all the chemicals and heat. You are an inspiration for me cause I need a new positive outlet and this is it!

  • I JUST went thru that. i had my hair braided up for 2 weeks and i missed my hair so i took it down 2 days later i was SICK of my hair lol and i tried to flat iron it i got half way thru and quit so i trimmed my hair and that trim ended up as a CUT so i said forget it and went and got my hair in senegalese twists.....moral of this story don't do ANYTHING with your hair on impulse.

  • I've hit many plateau's in my journey but it makes me look back 2 wht ive been doing 2 my hair. A journal would be great 2 doc events (trim, cut, new products &changes) of wht was done 2 validate current state. I look @ old pics/vids 4 comparison since i don't keep a journal. My suggestions for growth r 2 wet ur hair more frequently (harder in winter months) & use d caster oil 2 seal your hair after moisturizing it. Great vid, good luck & have a happy new year.

  • Reading Chicoro's "Grow It!" has helped me SIGNIFICANTLY on dealing with the plateau, and moisture,,,and heck ALL aspects of natural hair. Good luck to you!

  • I've hit a plateau twice during my journey but I didn't let it bother me...all in due time is what I tell myself..I hope your new regimen gives you the results you desire. Peace & Blessings

  • Great Topic "Philly Diva" Thanks for sharing.

  • I understand how you feel when you see your hair every day you never notice the length but I started taking vitamins for my hair..I take msm, biotin, vitamin e and a hair skin and nails vitamin..I have taken biotin before and notice growth and this time around I figure I would try other supplements as well...you should give at least biotin a try...

  • How do I say this nicely? You done lost your damn mind!!! Your hair is beautiful! I went back to look at your BC video and you have come a long way. I just did my bc and I can only hope to be where you are now in 2 years. We are our own worst critics and I truly think you are being to harsh on yourself. Keep doing what you are doing...and Good Luck!

  • Stay encouraged. I think we all reach these marks of feeling like no progress is coming fast enough. Lol. But I'm glad you shared your honest thoughts. You will inspire and relate to a lot of women (and men lol). Happy Holidays. :D

  • Is this your real hair in this video cuz if it is it looks like if you straighten it, it might be the length you are talking about (when relaxed). Also, I did one Aphoghee protein treatment and it was amazing I think my hair grew alot in one month. So, it might work! Good look and have fun...that might be apart of the problem not having fun with your hair any more. I know I have had that problem.

  • Hey Philly!!! Gurl, Love Love JBCO, so definitely get up on that. Also, I'm the same way. I always do braids, sew-ins, whenever I get bored, or feel like getting a relaxer I put my hair up "out of sight, out of mind" and as the weeks go by I really start to miss my own hair. So I'm with you with the "OOS, OOM" theory. I think I hit a plateau as well, I don't know I think it may have something to do with approaching 2 years. Hmmm. . .may be something to look into further. Ill be 2 yrs on 05/2011

  • Take pictures of your hair. You can really see the progress through pictures and tell yourself you won't worry about seeing a difference for at least 3 month intervals.

  • Get out of my mind! Lol, I'm going through the same thing with my 9 months post natural hair & I'm getting a protective style in a few weeks for the same reasons. Do you think micro braids are "out of style"? I hear ppl say this just curious to hear your opinion.

  • You just cut 2 inches of hair a month ago. So, I don't think you're really going through a plateau. Be patient, it'll grow.

  • @nerocentric I totally forgot about my trim until you mentioned it...lol...thanks.

  • @nerocentric You are so right!! that 2 inches was lot so yes your right and it will grow back

  • @nerocentric You are so right!! that 2 inches was lot so yes your right and it will grow back...soooo sorry i meant to vote thumbs up but click the down one.

  • I'm going through that right now and will frequently remind myself that I need to be patient. I also think about what PrettyDimples once said and that she thought her hair wasn't growing until she started doing protective hairstyles and using the steamer. Then before we knew it, he hair was LONG. Also, I'm going to start on the Ayurvedic hair care regimen.

  • beautiful

  • I love your honesty in this video. You have inspired me to make a video response.

  • I feel the whole 'not buying anymore hair products'. I realized I probably needed more protein too and found the Aphogee 2 min keratin reconstructor under my sink that I hadn't used in years. You never know when you might come back to a product, I'm glad I didn't let myself spend money on something new that I probably didn't need!

  • Stay positive.

    Stay free.

    Love your videos.

  • I think incorporating protein into your regimen is a good idea. Also it might be a good idea to write your new regimen down (write it down and make it plain) for 2011 and then journal what you use and when you use it so that you can use that infio when you evaluate your hair.

  • @j80edwards So true.Yes protein is great my hair likes it ,I use it once a month unfailingly. A journal is a must too this helps a lot.

  • OMG I am at this plateau too...ughhhh. And it's winter time again, and my hair does not grow during this time, well so I think. The Bear Fruit Hair site talks about humectants (a nono in winter) & so many things in my fav leave ins have them. Soooo starting next week i'm only using oil, aloe vera juice and water for the winter and my desert moisturizer from bear fruit hair. Imma moisturize/condition 3x (yes 3 hair meals) a day, and baggy my hair at night >2x a week. I'll see what happens

  • wow, diva... this came a great time. I was just thinking about the same thing(my hair is not growing)... I dont even remember when i had a protein treatment.

  • just curious, do you still use the kimmaytube leave in? and i totally know what you mean. i've been wearing the same hairstyle for like the past 3 months, and i'm BORED OUT OF MY MIND! lol

  • to the creamy crack references: nowhere in this vid does she mention going back to relaxers.

  • @kahotstuff01 OMG OMG OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH...NOT SURE WHERE PPL GOT THAT FROM...LOL

  • @PhillyDiva19154 lol these ladies need to go and check your most recent natural q&a to see how much you stressed that you would not be hitting up the creamy crack and i quote when asked if you would relaxed again your answer was NEVER lol

  • I felt just like You, then I stopped wearing weave protective styles, My hair has grown 1 inch and a half in a month cause I'm wearing it out. It's Your hair way of telling You to stop covering it up...

  • Great video.

  • When was the last time you did a "formal" length check? Maybe do formal length checks every 3 months. I know the one and only length check I've done since going natural was when you started the natural hair growth group back in June. And I didn't really notice any growth, but I did another length check last weekend, it had grown 2-3" over that 6 months.

  • @ItsMeMonchhichi like sept/oct...check my video uploads.

  • @PhillyDiva19154 Okay, I remember that, but that's been 3 months so maybe do another one and compare if you haven't already. What about the last time you trimmed your ends? I just read a post on Natural Hair Rules blog; she said she felt the same way and was told that it may be that her split ends are the culpit because the breakage was at the same rate as her growth. She was told to check for needing to trim every 3 months. Might help.

  • denimpixie just did an awsome post recently on MTG mane tail groom check it she seems to have gotten some good resuls her blog is questfortheperfectcurl

  • I am so glad you did this video I am at a growth plateau. I will be 3 years natural in May. My hair has been the same length since last May. I had my hair braided all summer and have been wearing wigs since Oct still nothing. It is very frustrating but it helps to know that I am not the only one. Thanks again.

  • good for you, im joining ya!

  • Look up the "anagen phase". You might have a better understanding of why your hair will not grow. I agree with you, if one is constantly looking at your hair every single day checking for growth one will be very dissapointed. Great idea on the out of sight out of mind. My plateau is that I get to a certain length and chop it off. This year alone I have shaved my head three times not because it was damaged or anything like that. I did it just because I wanted to. Good luck to you!

  • do u feel that scalp massages could help any?

  • Thanks for sharing your hair journey. I'm new in my healthy hair journey (4 months since I did the big chop). I'm getting so much knowledge from you sharing your hair experiences.

  • Philly, love ya channel.... Stay encouraged with ur hair journey. ((Try Biotin Vitamins 5000mcg - one a day.. and u will notice a hugh difference)).

  • @77shiba yeah my dr told me to get Biotin and Vitamin E...

  • I look foward to your videos. You're my favorite!

  • @finenfoxxy wow...that's an awesome compliment...thanks

  • I think i want to go natural just because i want to see my hair curly lol! but i think i may have hit a plateau because my hair is growing back but its longer on top and shorter on the bottom. Im wearing protective styles but i just don't know what to do with my hair! so i just moisturize it and leave it alone.

  • Take a look at my video of my hair on my page with the pictures I could really see you rocking it

  • @TheDavid513 sorry poops....your hair will be down your back by the summer and you know it:)

  • I just heard you say the only other alternative to braids were sew-in weaves..... NOT SO!

If you ever come to NC, come & see me for a crochet weave..... not your ordinary crochet or weave. You can check out some of my work here :)

  • @msredwun im in NC and would love to check out ur work as i am in desperate need of a protective style but the link says page cannot be displayed

  • Is it true that castor oil works like Glycerin by pulling moisture from the air?

  • @vaqtpie82 YES...that is why I use it at night only.

  • @vaqtpie82 I actually just read about that a few hours before I watched this video....that castor oil is a humectant. I have been using castor oil for a while and did not know that.

  • Its ironic that you did this video. I just posted a video last night about the same thing. I don't have loose natural hair. I have sisterlocks but everyone else tells me that my hair is growing. You are right we are not alone when it come to thinking our hair is not growing.

  • Amen, please share i'm at a styling plateau im sick of looking at twists, i feel like i look the same, twist up twist out twist down i'm sick of it. I bought a flat iron today it's on my bed right next to me as i type i have not opened it, i'm just staring at it mthe receipt is safely put away in case i get over my frustration and decide not to follow through but somehow i feel better knowing hey a different styling option exist lol

  • ? 4 anybody...what r the signs of protein sensitivity?

  • @adamsdg100 if you put a product with extra protein in your hair it my instantly turn hard and feel brittle as hell. another sign is after using a protein product, the hair will dry abnormally fast then again, feel hard and super brittle

  • @adamsdg100 dryness, brittle, extreme breakage, itchy, just to name a few...protein is supposed to improve those things so if it doesn't, then you are most likely protein sensitive

  • II love the way you keep it 100 at all time! I feel EXACTLY how you feel, but I keep it protected;so I don't have to really look at it every day. Keep the great videos coming, and remain true to you!

  • GURRRLLL.. I DO A HENNA PROTEIN TREEATMENT ABOUT EVERY 3 MONTH... ITS WORKS FOR ME... DOING A VID RESPONSE,

    KEEP IT REAL

  • @AFRICANEXPORT cool...thanks AE.

  • LOVE THE VID

  • dont worry PD...you may not know it but as long as you are keeping it moisturized and following your regimen, by the time you decide to wear it down, you will notice that length...I have been there so many times....so, so many times, lolol...

  • @MsChanda girl I almost cut this stuff a week or so ago...real rap...lol

  • Amen! No more NEW hair products in 2011!

  • @IMINTOMAKEUPNOW diva I am so over products now...NO MORE....lol
