I read the book for extra credit for my english class and it really hit me...I was tearing up in some parts...it's a book you just can't stop reading....it really got me mad for what happened when Sarah and her parents were taken to the camps....it was horrible

Before I read the book, I really didn`t know about what had happened or even heard about Veld`Hiv and what happened there during the war. It`s so important for the generations to come to know what happened during the war so that things like that NEVER happens again. Teachers should really find movie like this one to really give the students a sight in what happened during world war 2 and so on.

@dj69918 The Jews have the longest history of persecution of any race. And pain is pain is pain. Don't trivialize something you know nothing about, apparently. Especially considering the Jew's background gave them the compassion to fight against slavery of all kinds (which the Jews had gone through many years of.) And apparently you're not shutting the fuck up about slavery as you're bringing it up right now. There are movies about African-American enslavement, why shouldn't people be educated?

@AirbornChipmunks This movie isn't about the Jews entire history of persecution, just 5 years of it. I brought up slavery to point out that even though its 1000x worse, I make every attempt to avoid bringing it up and its virtually non existent in media, as it should be. But I can't turn on the TV without hearing about the holocaust. Its pretentious and annoying. You lack any sense of intellectualism if you think I don't know anything about the holocaust because I'm tired of hearing about it.

@dj69918 The holocaust is the most recent event of obvious Jewish persecution. And the Jews persecution go back to the Bible. So that's a wee bit longer than 400 years. Check yourself before you wreck yourself. And Roots was a pretty long series solely focused on slavery, which I gladly watched to educate myself and feel another people's pain, as we're all one family. Thank you.

Something happening over 400 years ago doesn't mean it lasted for 400 consecutive years Einstein. Second, I'm not arguing that no one should point out the Holocaust, what I am saying is that enough is enough. I'm tired of people acting like its the worst thing to ever happen....its not. Btw that "check yourself" crap is the dumbest thing i've ever heard.

I saw this movie Friday night at the Wilton Theatre. It made me cry, it was so good. I'm taking a group of friends with me to see it tonight. If you love the book, you'll love the movie. I can't wait for the DVD release.

@lagunalady417 I know it seems odd but in the book that is how she was described.I believe it helped her escape and helped her with what happened to her, but she described as having beautiful blonde hair and haunting blue eyes. It really is a fabulous book and should be read by as many people as possible.

OH, yeah why not go back to the original Concentration Ca,pis in CUba by the Spanish and South Africa by the British against the Boers?. The story of the Ho;locaust in WWII is easier to tell indeed but never gets old. I cried at the end of this film. Great castying & powerful storey indeed. The French were second only to the Germans in their Anti-Semitic participatiuon on the Holocaust probably .

I read the book for extra credit for my english class and it really hit me...I was tearing up in some parts...it's a book you just can't stop reading....it really got me mad for what happened when Sarah and her parents were taken to the camps....it was horrible

I have read the book and seen the movie and I recommend it to everyone to see.
Before I read the book, I really didn`t know about what had happened or even heard about Veld`Hiv and what happened there during the war. It`s so important for the generations to come to know what happened during the war so that things like that NEVER happens again. Teachers should really find movie like this one to really give the students a sight in what happened during world war 2 and so on.

I just saw this! It was truly wonderful...sad, of course, but definitely the type of movie I like to see. Despite taking French for five years in school, I really didn't learn about the Vel d'Hiv Roundup, so I learned a lot! I'd really like to read the book now.
