The words to this song are still so relevant today as they probably were when Buffy put down her pen after writing it. While people in Government sit on the boards of big businesses the Corporate criminals will, as Buffy so rightly says, 'get away'.
Mesmerizing gem from "Coincidence & Likely Stories" masterpiece has a quitely haunting quality & became a real fan listening to this stunning work with no filler...this lady is the real thing, a "Unsung" musical genius in a mediocre world...Bravo Buffie Sainte Marie!
How come no one has written anything about this song in ages.......you just have to take time out and listen to something so beautiful....i will never tire of this song x
gonna say goodbye with this one... hopefully things turn out... I really dont want to hate or fight I want my life back I never knew happiness.... I tried so hard but noone knows... they think they do but they dont...

How I love this song! What an artist she is!! Only knew 'up where we belong', which is also a very beautiful song of her. First song I heard was 'No one told me' and still find this very very special, my favourite..but I cannot find it on youtube, maybe you can put it here...NativeAmerican4Life???Would be so great!!!
I'm kinda stuck in a rut at the moment so I'm unable to purchase any of her albulms for at least another month. However, when I do, I shall pick the best ones :)
@NativeAmerican4Life I love your uploads and am grateful that you care to share this incredibly beautiful music with us!... :)
Ps. There is one song from the 'It's my Way' album that I've longed to hear for about twenty years: 'Eyes of Amber'. If you ever find it possible to upload that one, it will be a great joy for me.
From the Rainbow Warriors, those who stay in the fray, will come words of comfort to the last humans left on Earth: Now if I were the queen of all the world I would go in chains just to see you free of the ropes that bind you and the role you play and the pride that hooks you while the big ones get away. No one will be left behind.
Polarity Hill, is that the name of a place, like Capitol Hill? What is the meaning in reference to the song? I cover this song, and I would like to know what I'm singing. ;-)
This song really speaks to me and speaks to the reality of things. Why do things have to always come down the same way. Just once the good guys win the final big victory just once and get the big guy.
the majority of us ARE decent folk, as a few Brits on here point out. and a majority of our peoples, whoever they are, HAVE committed brutal injustices against ourselves, other peoples, and the planet.
we ALL have shit to answer for.
as a canuck myself, i can say that the treatment of our aboriginal people by the Brits, by the French, and then by us Canucks (both anglo and franco) remains a huge black eye on the pretty face of our nation.
Kokoots & Fangita. After your lot left Wales after nicking our coal & steel, you left the place in a hell off a mess. It's taken us nearly thirty years to tidy up after you. Swansea is still a bit shity. We're very disappointed with you, learn to clean up after yourselves.
Rules is it? Na,mae ef o Lanelli, ac' rwyf yn betio rid ydwyt yn gwybod ygeiriau i Hen Wlad fy nhadau' ni Yma o hyd a Myfanwy y basterdyn o Gaerdydd.
This song is as relative to the indigenous population of Britain having been put down by the bastard English (Saes), as it is to the indigenous population of North America who've been shafted by the Yanks.
Racist! You're welcome to you're own language, parliament, independence, that's democracy (tho' I suspect you'd come to regret the latter), but please grow up and stop slandering those of us to your east, the vast majority of whom are actually pretty decent folk - believe it or not
@Fangita66 After you had nicked our coal and steel, you left the place in hell of a mess, it's taken nearly thirty years to tidy up after you..... Except Swansea, that's still shit. So of course we're disappointed in you.
5junio1878- Are you dull or what? The bankers politicians and corporations are the gangsters. They just assassinate us with words and the pen rather than by knife and gun.
i totally agree searched for this song heard it on local radio last week love this song n sum more of hers that i heard goin to buy this cd if i can get it
We used to think this song was an allegory, then we thought it was a tale about repression and genocide, later we imagined it to be autobiographical ... now we recognise it as the unvarnished truth. A beautiful song sung by a wonderful example of courage, dignity and humanity ... Thank you for daring to stand up when others told you to shut up ... if was ever to meet you, I'd fall on my knees and wash your feet with my tears.
Absolutely love Buffy....................she's fantastic, great songwriter/singer/artist and is extraordinarily talented in so many things. Thanks Buffy.
Yes, up there with the angels. This song is a masterpiece, the singer-songwriter truly heaven-sent. I heard her sing this at the BBC television studios at Pebble Mill, Birmingham on 5th February 1992; then at BBC television centre in London on 24th January 1992; and again at the Hammersmith Odeon on 29th June 1992. Saw her again at Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton on Sunday night (31st Jan), where she gave an absolutely wondrous performance with her great Native band. I am still up in the clouds!
It just makes you realise that we are just mere mortals compared to Buffy, heaven is all around her and within her, as she sings. Thanks for your comment, Maverick
Yes we are mere mortals but every human being, and everything alive and living in our universe is a part of the consciousness of God. So really heaven is inside and outside all of us. Sadly we have forgotten this fact, along with neglecting our role as caretakers of the planet and of each other and the abuse of free will too many people are suffering unnecessarily. Buffy is a beautiful, honest enlightened and warrior soul. She is a inspiration.
God i just love this song, hadn't heard it on radio for many years then all of a sudden seem to have become popular again. Great singer, great music, great lyrics. deserves to be around a long time
After I listened to this and 'Keshagesh' from the new album Running for the drum, I just sat and asked myself how we got so selfish , grasping and unkind ? why is so much of life about speed and greed ? We all do it in degrees ! I got irritated today because I felt the microwave was sooo slow .
Have never heard of this lady, but was driving home tonight and it was on the radio. Loved it and was really hoping DJ would say who it was, and not just launch into another song, luckily he did. Couldn't wait to get in and Youtube it!! Will have to go searching all her other stuff now.
YES!! I just bought it a couple of months ago. Buffy's latest album is titled "Running for the Drum" and my album was a CD of music and included a DVD of Buffy. If you're a Buffy fan, you'll love it.
what an amazing song by an amazing woman, trying to change the world to a better place, not with bombs n bulletts, but with love, time we all took a leaf from her book
Thanks for posting! My favorite Buffy song. Brings me back to my youth on a remote Canadian lake, even though the song came decades later, when I needed it to understand how I'd made such a mess of things. God bless you, Buffy. No one else could have made me understand.
Thank You, Buffy not sure I can make to mariposa to c you. The Words are my inspiration, the words are loud, never stop, may our Great spirit keep you always. You have lost the bitterness our foes hoped you would feed.
Wow Never heard this Buffy song before now I can´t stop playing it thanks for uploading it. I´m rediscovering Buffy´s music after all these years it is still mesmerising...
I love Buffy, I am still looking for a song I havent heard since i was a little girl in the 70's. im not sure what the name of the song is. I just remember a few lyrics that says "Up into outerspace you go my friend, we wish you bon voyage" if you know the song I would love to find it!
Stop and listen to the lyrics... No one writes words like this anymore...... If you dont get this you will never breath..... (As I take the biggest breath of my life) i've found life itself......Sing on .....................
I cannot believe ive found this tune. It was put on a tape for me in the 90' and I had no idea who sang it. What a great meaningful piece of art. Buffy rules....
This song came out a number of years ago but carries as much power today as it did back in the beginning of the nineties, great lyrics, the indians have it all, living off the land what inspiration, but i would love to see Buffy work with the likes of stevie nicks now there's a combination, inspirational or what keep up the good work Buffy!
Helpful comments, thankyou native american and paradox. The music, the lyrics and the artist, this magicland at its best. God bless a native america. May peace be eternally theirs.
Thanks for posting, one my all time favourites. I have heard many views on what this song refers to but a difinitive answer would be much appreciated.
You don't have to be an evil dictator to march an army, or run a conglomerate, all you need is power and some cause. And in a world where a common cause is power heads on collisions pilot themselves.
I constantly use this song on my radio show - The Deafening Silence radio show - and i talk about this song in my book.
This song is deep.
The Democrats tried to destroy Buffy in THEIR WAR and the Republicans have tried to destroy The Dixie Chicks in THEIR WAR.....
It takes 40 50 years but maybe people can now see that ALL politicians use war for their own purpose's.... it takes the courage of musicians like Buffy st Marie and The Dixie Chicks to let us know that!!!
Incredible song that is WAY under-rated.
Listen to the words and you can see what she is on about.

Like Kokoots I've been hoping this song would appear on youtube - heard it on the radio when it was first released and have never forgotten it.

You don't have to be an evil dictator to march an army, or run a conglomerate, all you need is power and some cause. And in a world where a common cause is power heads on collisions pilot themselves.

Haunting melody, wonderful lyrics. Sad without sadness, matter of fact, you've gotta love it.
