travers114 is right; sorry for not answering sooner. The big Yellow brick is a so-called RCX module, which is a small computer. 3 light sensors provide input. The middle sensors main purpose is to follow the line. The left and right sensor tell the bot when and how far to turn.
The bot is not clever at all: the track and its obstacles are known in advance. If for example the ball is moved before the bridge, the bot will fail to recognize that.
