[NB: for old carb type] Qualified mechanic charge $70+ per hour. Fuk mechanics, charge heaps & do squat. B sure assembly is supported OR in short time it will effect the carb mounts & gaskets. I leave stock A/Cleaner in place (cheap filters) & run a 3" ribbed hose to the front mudguard. This gives cold air supply, is protected from rain & allot of dust, costs ~nothing, works fine. To improve more U shield & insulate a/clean from engine. Mechanics brain burned out by fumes so avoid mechanics!!
There is a better method (altho I am not a Honda guy...BMW4me).... First you get some cheap "universal" intake piping (i.e. "Spectre"); figure out how to best fit it w smoothest "bends" and least tubing as possible with the cone filter in the bumper; sand (1200grit) metal tubing exterior; spray paint exterior of tubing w Hi-Heat Exhaust Paint and wrap with DEI Header Wrap when dry; then carefully wrap aluminum tape around as radiant barrier, put together (silicone coupling), and enjoy
using a flexible rubber hose creates friction when air rushes through it because of the accordian design and rubber material, slowing the air down. It also makes your intake heat up faster. You want the inside of your air intake tubing/piping to be as smooth as possible. That's why mostly all performance intakes are metal pipes. But for a totally DIY custom intake, the design is pretty clever.
most ppl are dissing this but i think its cool he kept the origional air box just removed the big ass resonator and put a cheep air vent in there way to go.
wow wft was that that seemed stupid you need to take off the original filter throw a cone filter on there use a larger diameter hose to the throttle body ahhh ignorance
(Ricer: from the latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt)

@hundizzar nice urban dictionary copy and paste comment. just because a car has a "huge" exhause doesnt mean its rice. the term "ricer" can apply to ANYONE, american or import. a ricer is someone who tries to race any and every car on the street just to prove that they're "fast". a ricer is a person that puts a body kit on their car because it makes their 140hp car "aerodynamic" and "lighter" when in actuality it makes your car heavier, or when they keep stock wheels up front and put 18's in...
@hundizzar the back because theres "less rotational mass on the front wheels" when you do it that way, even though the back wheels turn too. a ricer makes up excuses when you try to race them "oh my clutch is messed up" or "oh i need an oil change" or "i cant man my tire pressure isnt right, right now" etc.
@hundizzar how am i a ricer dude? i drive a chevy cavalier with a homemade intake that sticks out of the hood. and an exhaust i bought from autozone. theres nothing rice about that;)

thats the price you pay to pick up a extra 1-2hp maybe considering it is a 4cyl. some people are crucial bout it when it comes to having even a slight edge over some other 4cyl and some people rather not risk safety of there motor for a measly 1-2hp stationary or moving between how ever many mphs. big deal or not to sum, it's cheaper to pick up better gains by doing other simple mods like taking out a big ass speaker box. when it comes to small compacts saving weight gives a better edge, fatty.

@TheDiddlysquat There is a volvo p1800 4 cylinder owned by a man called Irv Gordon that has just ticked over the 2.6 million mile mark on the original engine., touche!
@TheDiddlysquat The paper has *tiny* holes, a sheet has holes you could pass a large needle through no problem. K&N may use cotton, but it's a fine weave, and is layered.
What are you going on about "multi cylinder engines last longer"... Cylinder count only increases complexity and failure points, and a 4 cylinder costs far less than a v8 to rebuild, with 200k being pretty good for any motor between rebuilds.
Again, MAINTENANCE is what makes them last, not cylinder count...
@TheDiddlysquat I'm going to laugh when you end up losing compression in one or more cylinders due to those eaten up rings... Air filters have a purpose, trust me.
As per American engines, sure, some can't make it to 200k miles, I'm not sure how it being a v8 matters. While engine design is an important factor, it does not dictate longevity if proper engine maintenance schedules and practices are followed.
@thatoneguy1020 now just because it isnt a polished piece of aluminum pipe under the hood doesnt mean your own intake you can make yourself from lowes or homedepot wouldnt work, you guys need to think with your head not your wallet.

1, your little hose will actually absorb heat, 2 all you have done is remove some of the restriction which if you knew about honda's at all you would know that spoon actually recommend keeping the original box as the vtec engines works better when it has a bit of restriction, this helps to build tourque at lower rpm WHY DO YOU THINK IT IS THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE TO LOOK NICE ? . 3 Have you even changed the filter element !!!!!!!!
