  • it is just that I try to deal with Maya in a professional manner ...congratulation!!!

  • dam son! this is professional quality shit!

  • That is somehow showy!

  • 0:25 lower right, is that supposed to be sperm?

  • ragboy666

    strange name for a pro

    but u still the best

the only thing missing is some tutorials

  • moon dog rules!

  • Wooh, just got accepted into 3d and 2d animation course, can't wait to learn how to do all of this!!! I would learn now but I gtta get a better pc:(

  • @trainsforyou There are many ways to skin a cat. The best answer to this, is just that there is somply more jobs using maya, as peoples current pipelines are built round it, and its too costly to change them. Its not that its better although I do prefer it for certain things..... Modelling and animation its very good

  • @dejligeasger Thanks, I love working on the realtime stuff.

  • do i need to be able to sketch i ask because i am not so good at drawing and i have an idea i want to do for an animation

  • @generalbellic Hey. No you dont. I got into 3D specifically because I wanted to make things look nice, but cant draw to save my life.

  • awesome work!

  • @1Mperios Thanks

  • how long did it take to make the tank? btw its awesome

  • @cj6745 Thanks, I believe it took about 4 weeks roughly including the rigging.

  • Can't get enough of this !!

  • 1.02 so much win

  • @ChrisHill294 Thanks very much

  • freaking love zoids

  • @xxHaloVidsxx Same here, have the original model of this on my desk

  • @thecrazycommand Thankyou, dont really feel like it, but enjoying learning still

  • the industry standard is cinima 4d

  • l ass tank

  • cooo

  • @trainsforyou Maya is an industry Standard in the Interactive entertainment sector. you can use anything you like but if you want a job your expected to know how to use maya

  • IM doing 3D animation atm. if i can do this when i finish my course i will be well happy =]

  • @DarkStarStudioss No reason why you cant. Just work hard and do a lot of it, and dont be afraid to show people and have them rip it apart, thats how you learn. Try and find an outlet for it too, its good to have a motivation for the content

  • @trainsforyou maya's just an option. its not necessarily better or worse than other programs such as 3ds Max, or lightwave. they all have their strenghts and weaknesses.

  • Mr. Scruff, nice

  • your tank look amazing! Im using maya myself, best 3D software on the market.

  • @Rusty511 Thanks, yeah maya is cool. I love it and hate it in equal measure.

  • that's cool, I think the interaction with the misic is amazing.

  • @makkumeda85 Thanks very much, I would love to do that stuff all the time if I could....

  • Excellent work here. You and I have similar taste in modeling :D Though I'm sure by now you're leaps and bounds beyond me.

  • @DemiousStudios Thanks man. Keep it up.

  • good job man

  • @TanitsuMe Thankyou

  • u shoud make models for the next mech warriors game :D

  • damn soo detailed

  • @normixxxx Took a little while, just time and patience really :o)

  • Do you do requests?

  • @DaRealPrinceofPinoys Sometimes yes ;o)

  • Bossy show..it was cool

  • @ajnavee007 Thanks

  • @multiverses2009 are you kidding this music is awesome correct me if i'm wrong I think this is moondog?

  • @psyssi Its a guy called Mr Scruff. If you have never been to see him and get the chance then do it.

  • @ragboy666 your one hell of an artist

  • @Theshamham Thankyou very much

  • @psyssi fuck you

  • @gregmegre What?

  • @multiverses2009 Music is subjective

  • @sd9800 Thanks I really want to finish it, sometime I will.... one of these days

  • i'm jealous

  • @KZ118 Have a go! Anyone can do it!

  • how do people make this kind of stuff its so cool, i wanna do the same with in video gaming. making characters and the environments. how long does it take to make models like these you must have alot of spare time?

  • @aliqas20 LOTS of learning by doing, and trying and getting it wrong, and trying again. It took a couple of weeks to make the robot monkey for example. I did it to get a job in the industry and I did get one, now been doing it for a few years, and loving it more each day.

  • Whats the song?

  • @generalflood Its get a move on by mr scruff. He is very cool.

  • Cool

  • interactive characters animation .... that is super cool

  • @juliedog464 Thanks check out thesanchoplan for more.

  • Great reel, love the realworld/3d interactions

Wow how did you do the animation on the abrahams tracks??

Im modeling a digger and that may help me a lot :D

    thank you in advance

  • @korgertube Hey. Thanks very much. I would check out asTreads script on the creative crash website. I modified and used this for the treads. Good luck.

  • @ragboy666 thank you, i will surely check that out :D

  • ha ha you didnt make that tank you just edited it slightly, ive seen the same one on a stock 3D model website

  • @InvaderZimFan101 Theres over 100 abrams tanks on turbo squid. They werent all made by one person.

  • super

  • @moebiusdarvil Thankyou

  • how did you animate the track around on the tank?

  • @smtjffr Theres a few posts on here about it. I adapted a script from creative crash. ASTreads was its name I think. If you have any trouble give me a shout.

  • @smtjffr Have a look at asTreads script on creative crash. I used and modified this script to make them animate. Hope this helps.

  • awesome

  • @andre18maia Thanks

  • I have just started to use maya and im really liking the features and stuff, could you recommend any books, videos or anything for helping to learn or any tips would be fantastic, love the work, how did you get the alien to move with the dj????

  • @youloveit2009 Hey. Yes books wise I started with maya fundamentals, and did ALL the tutorials in it. Realised I loved it a bit too much, so did some more, produced some of my own stuff for club visuals, and then wanted to take it to the next level so went back to school and learned it for real. I'drecommend getting the book first, pick one which is very practical rather than theory, and do it all. Then if you still want more, message me again. All the best, and be careful, it is addictive. ;o)

  • @ragboy666 Cheers thanks for the feedback, really appcieate it,i will do that, ive already done an animation just needs rendering and then will put it up on here, its just the lighting that im really not so good at, thanks again

  • do you work anywhere right now? great work!

  • Incredibly impressive- get a job in CGI for the love of god. The tank was especially great- adding some extra textures would make it more than apt for a decent film.

  • @George18264 Thanks very much! I do work in it now. Been doing so for a couple of years. It is probably the best job in the world. Very lucky. Hard work though... dont always love the late ones. All the best!

  • GREAT JOB!!!

  • @xKatz90 Thanks very much!

  • beautifull work specially tank riging

  • @hawkarena Thanks, not too tricky but works well.

  • wow. great reel.

may i know how u create the animation of the tank treads??? especially on how it follows the terrain?

  • @Kid84 Thanks, just got round to answering. There are a few posts about this on this and the other video I posted. They explain it in about enough detail.

  • oh btw whats the name of the song playing on the reel?

  • Its get a move on by mr scruff. He is awesome. Plays 5 hour DJ sets of this kind of thing. Go and see him if you get a chance.

  • Like DJ shadow but his own sweet style. I meant in the sense of playing 5hr DJ sets. Thanks for answering my questions and everyone elses. Still learning Maya lol and uhh still behind. Prolly gonna fail the class for now, Professor wasn't too helpful but I am understanding the concepts.

  • sweet reel. particularly like the interactive portion you did and showing the rigs. Are you working yet? I am in my 2nd year in the animation program at Art Institute. Just started learning Maya in depth now.

  • can you please tell me why you picked Maya over 3dsMax? Which is better?

how long did tank take you?

  • That depends. They both have their place. 3DS gives you a lot of nicer tools than maya to more quickly produce nice looking things, but it is much less flexible. You will probably have a nicer time using it, and be happier quicker. Maya is more low level meaning you have to do everything yourself, but you can make it do anything. I chose it mostly for this reason and the fact its most widely used, so there are more jobs if you know it well. Good luck whatever you choose.

  • Sweet Abrams tank

  • Thanks

  • Great job ragboy666.. hav also enrolled for Maya.. Could you plz tell me as to how much minimum time one takes to reach this level?

  • Hey man, will message you as I went 603 chars over the limit for this comment...

  • Edward do you know the 3d modeling program called rhino? if so, can you tell me the main differences between it and maya

  • Hi yeah Rhino is primarily a nurbs(curve based, as opposed to polygons) modelling program. Its good for designing products, and cars and stuff. Not so all round as Maya. Maya is quite a lot to learn, but its very good and flexible all round for animation, modelling, rendering etc. Not too pricy anymore either.

  • rhino purely nurbs maya has poly and nurbs

  • nice reel. i'm working on mine now, finding inspirations...

  • Thanks, hope its going/gone well. Send me a link when its done. If you want any advice or comments on it let me know. Might be able to help. Edd

  • Edd, Would Maya 3D be the best software product to use for designing 3D characters like a 7 headed dragon? Would I need other programs to make this more realistic? I would appreciate any info you would help me with.

  • Hi

I would definately recommend using maya for character stuff. Though its probably not the easiest, as it doesnt have some of the nice tools that other programs do, built in, but it is very flexible and has probably the best community to support you. In terms of character realism, you will probably want to look at ZBrush, or Mudbox, for doing the detailing, and phototshop for texturing.

Let me know if you need any more.

  • extreeeme work bro!loved the way the treads follow the terrain...!would appreciate it if you culd put up a tut somewheres and send this poor sould the link...;)

  • Thankyou. I will try to sometime, as quite a lot of people have asked about the treads.

  • nice

  • Wow! superb detail on the tank, how many polys?

  • Thanks. I dont know actually. I will try and check sometime. The body is fairly low poly, but there is a fair bit of detail in all the other bits.

  • holy crap! the tank tread animation was wicked! and the level of detail on the tank is amazing. howd you animate the adjustment of the treads to the terrain? i made a siege tank but couldnt get the tread to follow the terrain.

  • Thanks very much

The tank treads use a script to set up each piece animating on a motion path round a spline. They follow each other and look like a track. You can then deform the spline around the terrain. I used clusters on spline cv's and parented them under the wheels.

Let me know if you need to know any more.

    Edd

  • ooooh..i see..ima try that on my tank..got my finals(2min showreel)coming up and i needed extra stuff to add to me reel.thnx

  • Cool good luck with it!

    Edd

  • love the interactive characters, can you kinda describe your workflow when producing that?

  • Hi thanks very much

They were produced for The Sancho Plan. We make interactive installations and music/animation performance peices. Characters are all animated in 3D packages like maya and max. Then they are either rendered and played through our custom engine or played through a 3D realtime engine. Types of sounds and music usually inspire character design and movement.

Check out the website theres a list of shows and pieces up there.

    Cheers again

  • Very cool work

  • Thanks very much.

    Edd

  • Hey I was wondering how long something like that took you. Im takeing a class in school in which we use the program

  • Hi there

Ok the monkey too about 2 weeks to model, the tank took about a month, the character stuff I did over the course of many more months. So quite a long time, but once you start you surprise yourself how much you can do.

Good luck with the course. Anything to see?

    Edd

  • hey what did u use to make the tank drive down the road

  • Hi. I adapted a script on highend3d called treads creation. After that I rigged the wheels to deform the tread splines, so it would follow surfaces.
