  • that was hardly a lesson ..

  • If anyone honestly thinks this is Jaco's style, you're a retard plain and simple. This is a basic funk line, no hint of jazz. Woohoo, he played a funk improv fingerstyle. No Jaco at all.

  • @cursedswordsman jaco also played funky,he didn't only play jazz.. try listening some bass lines like barbary coast,or come on,come over.. or his reinterpratation of funky broadway or third stone from the sun by jimi hendrix.. you should at least know the bass players you are going to talk about..

  • guys im tired of hearing people compare flea to god. i mean yea hes really good but he ain't no flea.

  • @eggnog1337 Old, shutup.

  • lol jaco wasnt at all a inspiration to flea

  • why dont you do full videos the sound is great

  • I LOVE YOUR COLOUR CHANGING PICKUPS!!!!!

  • John Frusciante: I can't believe you don't like the outro of funky monks. The badu badudubaduba baododobobo

  • What strings do you have on there?

  • nice job man. very funky. as they say in sponge bob... chhchhchaaaaaaa

  • badoo badoodoo

  • i don't like jaco at all, but he was one of flea's influences. this is totally bootsy's style, i agree with that.

  • You're awesome and you must teach me how to play my bass...

  • magnetic ? emc?

  • this song is really fun to play.

  • FLEA=GOD

  • wrong

    FLEA= AMAZING

  • wrong

    FLEA= AMAZING GOD

  • simply amazing

  • Great! I love this song :)

  • your tone makes me shit. i fucking love it

  • solved your constipation problems then?? :)

  • Super génial, comme d'hab

  • Here's what Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea wrote in liner notes accompanying the 2007 release, "The Essential Jaco Pastorius."

"I love everything about him, I feel the depth of his joy and pain in every note I have ever heard him play. Obviously he changed the face of electric bass playing forever and a great poet would be needed to attempt to describe it, so I will just remain humbly awe stricken like everyone else."

Some more evidence of the possibility of his influence.

  • For sure. Also in that video where he's being interviewed by River Phoenix, he tells a story about how he completely ruined his first bass, after ripping out all the frets and sanding down the fret board, because he "wanted to be like Jaco Pastorius".

  • Have you guys seen the Tell Me Baby video? Flea has a Jaco signature bass right in it. I have no doubts that he's picked up some Jaco along the way.

  • your website isnt working for me

  • Jaco's influence???

    NO WAY, amigo.

Maybe Bootsy collins, or another funky bass player, but Jaco? no way.

  • yeah, you can hear it. i can hear bootsy to, but there's deffinitley that Jaco Fussion style

  • JACO WAS FUNKY AS HELL!!! Have you ever heard "The Chicken"?

  • To see Flea talk about Jaco's influence on him, check out 4:30 in this video, a.k.a. part 3 of "Flea - Master Sessions":

    youtube{dot}com/watch?v=24BISKrDe9Q&feature=related

For those of you who may be unaware of Youtube's link blocking, change the {dot} to a period in that link.

  • My favourite Flea line. You can hear Jaco's influence in it.

  • I don't think so...which song of Jaco ?

  • That staccato finger-funk style Jaco created man! He uses it all the time. Some examples are: Come On Come Over, I Can Dig it Baby (Little Beaver), and The Chicken.

  • @poppyto I'd say bootsy, not jaco.

  • @poppyto thank god somebody understands music

  • @caabmusic ur a stupid piece of shit, and clearly dont know anything about jaco pastorius

  • @poppyto i dont think he means its in a jaco tune it just has his influence

  • @poppyto every jaco style line..try this: barbary coast(weather report)

  • i hear it

  • nothing to do with jaco ;)

  • @ThomasRiekki i agree too. this is by far my fav bass line by flea.

  • @ThomasRiekki bullshit

  • @kasthebass @kasthebass @kasthebass What's with everyone getting so upset with the Jaco remark? You're telling me that you can't hear any of Jaco influence in this line? Listen to Barbary Coast:

    watch?v=bUt5jnmOlK4

    Still can't?

  • @ThomasRiekki Jaco's**

  • @ThomasRiekki

The first thing I thought when I heard this

  • @ThomasRiekki definatly. Have you ever heard Aqua Marine by Santana? i swear jaco rose from the dead and played it

  • Wow, and i thought you need a 5 String bass for this song ...

  • Flea uses a 5 string on this song, but not for the solo

  • he needs 5 string bass in the middle of the song, when john plays solo and in chorus

  • bien!

  • Damn...I wish I could get that sound out of my Stingray!

  • yo can, just play ferther from the pickup and do rest strokes.

  • yea, cool
