I would have to disagree. The worst break in candlepin bowling is to hit the head pin and then only knock down the head pin and nothing else. The head pin misses all the other pins and the ball scoots through the space between the 2, 4, 7 and 9 pins. This does not happen often but when it does it is rather shocking as well as hysterical.

When I introduced it to the people I bowl tenpin league with in Michigan, they all loved it immediately and kept saying they'd love to have a candlepin center here :)

@mattsme Guess again it is the hardest and lowest scoring of all of the bowling games...A good score in candlepin bowling is 100 and top players average in the 125 range where in tenpin everything is so phony and geared to falsely improve your averge and that's why you can just open the doors to a tenpin place today, walk in, go to your lanes and you have an automatic 220 + average....

@mattsme No, it's not. The pins are much narrower than tenpins, although the 12-inch distance between the centers of the pin spots is the same. This makes them much harder to hit. Also, each pin (2 lbs 8 oz) weighs more than the ball does (2 lbs 7 max weight) so it's much, much harder to carry a solid hit. The reason they look like they fall down so easily is because the ball speed is much higher.

I've never heard of candlepin bowling, or know of somewhere nearby that does it. I think i have tried it before, but not knowing what it was called. I bowled it at an arcade down in South Carolina at the South of the Border Fireworks place. Those bowling balls look like toys compared to the regulation size bowling balls.
