I'm not a fan of entertainment systems in cars too much unless it's a long road trip. I think they should have weight and belt sensors in the car, so if there's a person sitting in a seat the weight sensor will know and the car won't be able to start until the buckle sensor can tell everyone buckled up. If it's just cargo, the driver can override the sensor for each seat that doesn't have a person in it.
the disturbing thing about this idea is that little kids will only put on seat belts because they want to watch spongebob or adventure time or another cartoon but when dealing with another car they really might not leading to death. This idea is in ONE CAR not a billion. By the way little kids know better to put on their seat belts. not that this is a bad idea its that its just teaching kids bad influence and teaching them the only reason to put on seat belts is to watch cartoons.
@onearmedmario that's just an opinion... one could argue that using the seat belt regularly could get kids used to it and use anyway in other vehicles
Actually, I think this is a BAD idea (and I am a big fan of fun theory). I hate in-car entertainment units, and I think children should be encouraged to talk to others in the car, watch the world go past and learnt from the real deal, not the fake version of life on the screen. While I'm at it, why don't we all look up from our iPhones and speak to one another? Or has iPhone/iPad/iPod, finally destroyed what is left of any civility we are capable of?
My grandpa used to tell me that the car couldn't move until everyone was buckled. I believed him and always buckled my seat belt, and I still do to this day because of that.
But how does it know that there aren't three kids if there are only two. Someone I know put their bag on the seat and the car went ballistic thinking it was a person...the car had a weight sensor.
Volkswagen should totally pioneer this idea in there media package, and other car company's should fallow.

I just wonder if kids will begin to think that this is the only reason they should be wearing a seatbelt...

akel1984 4 months ago
Actually if the car wouldn't start until any seat with any weight on it had a seatbelt connected, this would work very well!
