My great-grandfather was stationed on Midway in WWII. He said there were guys that went crazy listening to those birds and ended up killing themselves because of it.
@AdgieKid Yeah my Mom stayed over there for one night because they were training some people to fly over the sea and she couldn't sleep because the birds were so annoying and couldn't close the window because it was so hot.
Happy to finally see some Gooney Bird footage on YT! We journeyed to Midway Island in 1966 accompanying our Dad during his tour of duty under Captain Savacool. What a great place to have experienced as a kid.

I saw this in the Navy on my way to and from 'Nam in '68 and '69. Even looks like the same bunch!
They actually used a runway to taxi and get off the ground and when they didn't, they'd walk back and try again. Great entertainment!
