I have and will always listen to this song before the Kingdom - The Green and Gold of Kerry take the field for the All Ireland.... win or loose... I will always play it afterwards as well... God Bless this great soul... Ciarrai Abu gach nomeid, gach la agus gach blianta.... thanks for posting
Love the video .. splendid .. after the false start. I would have taken this song a little quicker. But then a love song by FATHER John McCormick does not fit so well. He says "Sing as you speak", but nobody would speak these lines at this snail's pace. Nice historic piece however. I;m going to lift the tempo when I sing it!
unfortunately today this great voice seems to be overlooked but to people who appreciate great voices of past and present John Mc Cormack will alway occupy a prominent position.
wow cool to see these old ones of John McCormack...my kids great grandparents
played them according to their son (my kids great uncle) who died aged 96 recently.

It was mi grandfather favourite song.
I never knew it, until I told my father that was my favourite irish song about 1985.
He died in Capitan Sarmiento, Argentina 75 years before this talk happened somewhere in year 1933. Probably he listened at John M. on the radio.

Great purity and strength in that tenor, and proper phrasing.

This Victor Record was made on 19 February 1930.
He also sang it in the 1930 film 'Song o' my Heart' and the soundtrack version, made in LA, is also available.
