  • I'm a Taiwan piccolo. I played this when I was a junior high school student.

  • Our band played it faster, and i liked it that way.

  • haha i'm playing this piece this year in band :D i like my bell parts lol

  • the tuba part was the best in this. i had so much fun playing this in high school

  • I'm really glad that I came across this clip! This was my favorite piece played when I was in high school.

  • we are playing this piece this year ... although my part is pretty boring (bari sax) its a really cool piece when it all comes together.

  • I LOVED playing this piece in high school! The 4/4 against 7/8 in the high woodwinds and percussion were SO hard to clean up. Luckily I played bass clarinet, :P....Awesome song!

  • Jack Stamp is pretty great. He was my high school band director's college professor.

  • i'm happy to have found these videos. i played trumpet in this concert.

  • My band gets to do this Monday night...It always sounds rushed right there at mea. 3. I play trumpet, so I don't know why we do it...just seems right. I am pretty good about it though. Great job =D

  • this is the first piece we're playing at our next concert [10 more rehearsals til then :D]. gosh, starting on a high f# is hard if you have braces! jeez! cool piece, though. too bad the rest of my section can't play it right... :P

  • playing this piece tonight, its pretty difficult being the only trumpet that can play it. Its all my for the the second through ninth measure. I'm nervous as hell.

  • Is it just me or do most of Stamp's compositions have the same general style? They all begin with a roar of gongs or other percussive instruments, followed up by heavy brass melodies. Then, as the winds fade away, the vibes or chimes or bells or some other pitched percussion take over, normally in conjunction with the sleigh bells. The brass and winds then join and build, build, build, build, build, until the conclusion, which is just as strong as the beginning of the piece. A pattern, it seems.

  • Chorale, Scherzo, and Dance don't have that style, but I wouldn't know about the rest of his styles. It's very possible that most of his songs follow that pattern.

  • I've seen it in Cenotaph, Gavorkna, and some other ones which I can't remember.

  • His music does have a certain style to it. It isn't always his form, however, sometimes it is. The tension, harmony, and rythym is really simliar in his work. You should check out symphony 1 by jack stamp.!

  • I also enjoy AirLink. I was the 2nd chair percussionist at the Pennsylvania All State festival and the piece was amazing. It remains one of my favorites. I have bumped into Dr. Stamp on a few occasions and he is not only a superb composer but an excellent conductor and really nice person.

This is a pretty good performance of Cenotaph, aside from the timpani being a little flat in places, but this could be attributed to the quality of the recording. Other than that, great video!

  • No one posted AirLink yet? That was nice. We played it at Pennsylvania All State Festival. I play double bass and Bands kinda bore me but this guy wrote some nice stuff.

  • i have played this piece and it was really good.

  • i met that guy and played one of his pieces antihigram, it was so cool especially the tuba part, but the brass in general was cool.

  • So did I, actually. lol Though I played flute. This song is so great. I don't know how he does it. <3 It would be so awesome to play with him again.

  • Oh well...it's an amazing thing...Dr. Jack Stamp, one of the greatest composer/conductors of our time comes to take part in this incredible reunion, about 20 of his former students from 20-25 yrs. ago played in it, some very special kids from Ashley High School helped us with only one pratice. Instead of people simply enjoying a clip of this event, eveyone wants to be an armchair director. I just ask that you relax and enjoy this clip for what is is. :)

  • they are rushing, the bass drum seems a little off as well

either that or the recording that i have of this song done professionally is messed up

  • Umm...My low brass is right with Dr. Stamp.

    So kiss my tushy.

  • you see This was an extra concert.

On top of our Christmas one.

OH DAMN! my low brass is RIGHT with Dr. Stamp.

    So kiss my tushy.

  • Well.....we did only have it for a week and a half....On top of all of our other music for our concert and stuff...ah well.

    Not our best.

  • awe! theres finally a you tube video of my high school band. Being able to play with the hoggard alumni was a really wonderful experience, and working with Jack Stamp was great

  • i composed this ?

  • You guys are rushing. If you look how he's conducting and you guys are playing then you will find that your rushing a little at the beginning.

  • i would just like to say, this band did wonderful. and they didn't rush, they did just great, ding dong.

  • Don't forget that audio and video don't always sync correctly when you upload movies . . . sounds fine to me.

  • Too fast in the begining, too slow in the end.

  • Jack Stamp, the writer of the piece is the one that's conducting the band! I suppose he knows the proper tempo.

  • great piece! we played this for our 2006 Honor Band Opener, in District III (Georgia)
