Disolve the union and kids would benefit. The California Teachers Association has spent more than $200 million on campaign contributions and lobbying efforts in the last decade, leading what the Fair Political Practices Commission calls a "billion-dollar club" of moneyed political interests.
Teachers who picketed in front of LAUSD headquarters came off like a bunch of bullies on election day (for some propositions that were futile quick-fixes for the state budget) and students and illegals who marched with them came off like idiots who never heard of Countrywide or the $55 trillion national debt. The voters defeated the propositions by a landslide. It was great! It was better than the finale of "24"! lol
The state of California has placed a large order of these robot teachers and plans on replacing them with the real teachers who were laid off and guess who's funding this move? They screamed and cried for it now their laid off asses will have nothing but Change in their pockets. Hope other states follow California's lead. LOL
We need to fund education so we can help keep young people on the right track.
We need our Unions, teachers and groups like the Angry Tired Teachers to help fight for fair pay to set an example to their students who might want to become educators themselves one day.
It's just too easy to blame economic problems on the poor and helpless.

123quinterra: Under your system - I would have been a loser since the Union sabotage my TA job and never gotten into graduate school. Under your system - there are always excuses, whining, and recruiting of lazy ass teachers. Under your system - Ph.D. Engineering Professors like me see no Californians in my class - students that you claim the Unions are preparing for 21st century. Heck, under your system they can barely read well and do simple math.
Your stupid rhetoric is typical of Union stupidity - talking about hypothetical b.s. with no real life examples or factual basis. Under your system - your Union has driven California's economy into a deep recession, and with no students in college majoring in Engineering or Sciences to get us out of this recession. If I had my way there would be no recession. Under your way is the reason why we are at the bottom, and under your way we will never get back to the top and probably sink even lower!
At UCLA I tutored high school math and physics and saw the incompetence of LA unified school teachers. GATE and Honors math programs were abolished because it was deemed racists like you said, and replaced with Latino based reform math. Many high students without a tutor like me struggled and never got a chance to go to college! When they get to college they are ill prepared and suffer the wrath of calc. based physics because they cannot even do basic arithmetic without a calculator in my class.
loke - "USCDE...It scares me the most that you are an educator." I am a proud educator. I do not leave my students high and dry in a budget crisis, I do not make up excuses, nor need the money. If I lost my house tomorrow and all my possessions, be poor for the rest of my life I will gladly do it, as long as I can teach engineering. I teach no matter what hardship I am faced with. That is why I am a good teacher. But the Teachers Union does not share this kind of sentiment.
Bandgeek, you work 2 jobs? If so, you are probably being paid minimum wage. Making about $200 a week(if you work 40hrs) - after taxes. $200 - Gas = $150. $150 - Food = $100. $100 - cell phone bill = $50. Unless you make your parents pay for your cell phone bill. That leaves you with $50 a week. And you probably do not help your parents, but if you did, than you make $0.00 a week. And your parents pick up the rest of the tab. Good luck paying for college!
UCSDE...try teaching art,(painting, sculpture etc) or music with a piece of chalk and board only. I have taught art and had to buy my own supplies and it is expensive!!! You know what you can do with your piece of chalk?.... try teaching tolerance instead of hatred with it.
Why so much hate for Latinos? The Latinos who I work with are hard working wonderful people. Get off your judgmental pedestal and learn to love.
What can I do with my piece of Chalk? For painting, I can just buy colored chalk. For sculpting I can use the chalk, scrap paper, card board and do sculpting. For music I can donate my guitar(I have 3 of them), download an electronic piano, make homemade intsrutments(art & music). I can teach anything, because I have the passion for it - I do not need money to motivate me to teach; I use my ingenuity, my creativity, and my passion to teach art or music, the same way I teach engineering!
"You know what you can do with your piece of chalk?" - loke. This attitude of defeating pessimism is typical of teachers Union excuses. In times of hardship it squashes creativity, ingenuity, and improvisation which is critical for art & music. Unions make teachers incompetent and they are not forced to improvise and make ends meet or become creative. I teach art because I love art, even if I am not paid well! The Teachers Union prefer you rather not, because it means no dues for them.
loke - typical Union idiots like you is the reason why I see no Latinos, Blacks, or barely any Californians in my Engineering class. As an undergrad. TA at UCLA when your stupid Union tried to recruit me, under some stupid local grocery/auto labor tag. I was glad I did not signed the dotted line and join the TA Union. Guess what? 1 week before finals, they told my colleagues to strike, and anybody caught Teaching was going to be severely reprimanded.
Thousands of students were left stranded during finals week. One physics class I did not TA for had an average around 20% because all the TAs were on strike. As an undergrad you are only allowed to teach 1 class, but during this strike I was asked by my professor to TA for 4 more classes without pay. Grading 300 exams by myself. I did this because, I AM A TA AT UCLA!!! It was an HONOR, and a privilege. As an engineering teacher today, I still feel the same way!!!!!
UC Regents and the TA Union went into arbitration on salary negotiations because they wanted to increase my $8.00 salary to $15. The Unions eventually lost, because TAs are not teachers. Because of this Union fiasco, thousands of Lations & Black students flunked Physics. And to make matters worst the TA Union disintegrated and the University black listed them and hired new undergrad TAs, leaving most of my friends without a job. All because the Unions wanted a piece of the $8.00/hr wage.
USCDE...It scares me the most that you are an educator. I certainly hope you don't project/teach your racist view to your students!! I have to wonder how your Latino students would feel if they read your racist comments.
Narrow minded people like you who stereotype are the ones who don't have a clue! How dare you make assumptions about anyone,ie bandgeeksRus08, much less an entire race of people?? I was pleased but not at all surprised that you were wrong about him. You should be ashamed!!!
kanesloane - I am paid well as a teacher because I am good at my job, not because of the Union. I teach well, hence I am paid well. A good teacher does not need the Union, only bad ones do!!! GM + Unions = Bankruptcy. CA teachers + Unions = no Latinos, Blacks, Whites in Engineering, and soon no Asians from California. Every year, I see more and more Asians in Engineering, and more of them are coming from Japan, Korea, India - where they spend less than 1/10th per capita on primary education.
alright. so now you are making assumptions about me. as a matter of fact i am 18, but i am going to a university, paying for my own bills, and working two jobs to put myself through school. my parents pay for nothing so all this ridiculous nonsense that you are speaking is a waste of breath. you are a very well spoken person, yet you seem pretty damn hard headed. again, get over yourself and stop arguing with people on youtube. thanks. no shut the hell up please.
Going to University? You are going to pay higher Tuition - because the Unions just lobbied the CA assembly to increase your land tax, sales tax, and state income tax. You obviously live at home, so your parents are going to feel the pinch; I know i have, paying close to $15,000 a year in land tax, and it keeps going up every year. Bandgeek do you pay for your own car registration? insurance? gas? Do you pay your fair share of house bills? Including land tax? water? electric? insurance?
actually i am living in the dorms. and i am paying for everything. my parents pay for NOTHING. as ive stated before. (fyi ive got better things to do with my life then have an endless conversation with a stubborn ignorant fool, so this will be my last comment. thanks and have a great life)
You pay for everything? Lets see, tuition is $1000 a month if you go to a public UC. Tuition + Room & Board = $2000. $2000 + Books, Gas, Bills(Car Reg./Payments, Insurance), Living Expenses = $3000. That means you need to make $30 000 a year to break even. That does not include Federal and STATE TAXES! That means the FEDS and SAC. take 1/3 of your salary => which leaves you $10 000 in debt! That means you are going to owe close to $50 000 when you graduate!
That is - if you graduate. Since you are a liberal arts major you will be lucky to find a job in this recession. Even if you did, than you probably make just barely double of your minimum wage because of your major - since your High Teachers screw you over and taught you reform Math for Latinos and hence you can not graduate with a good paying degree. Making $16 000 a year after taxes, you can barely pay for a car, house, let alone the $50 000 loan.
Illegals forced you to work 2 minimum wage jobs to pay for college - since there is no money left since CA is bankrupt. And when you graduate you owe $50 000 + interest! Since you work 2 jobs, you probably are a liberal arts major. And anybody that work 2 jobs probably flunk out of college - I have already seen thousands of students already drop out or take a year off because of this recession caused by illegals.
Your better job paying 2x minimum wage has a yearly salary of $16 000. That is less than $1400 / month working full time! This is sad because even if you had this better paying job in college, you still be $15 000 in debt, $5000 dollars more! But to make matters worst, with your meager salary of $1400 / month - rent & bills you will be lucky to save $500 a month to pay back your student loan + interest! At this rate it will take you over 10 years! All thanks to SAC. catering to illegals!
You are only 18, and probably do not even have a job and probably still living at home with your parents where they pay for all your bills, gas, clothes, food ...etc things that you call: "do something with your life." You have no clue about making it out in the real world. Working 80hrs a week + weekends, and see all my tax revenue get zero Latinos & Blacks & Whites in Engineering even worst almost all of them flunking out, joining gangs, going to jail.
i like how everyone is arguing about taxes and illegal immigrants and such. lol. the video was posted by teachers who care about the kids they teach and who need more money in order to keep programs such as art, and music, and athletics open for kids. stop bickering about nonsense.
To educate a kid requires 2 things esp in CA: 1st of all it requires Taxes coming from property tax and state tax! No tax revenue = no education! 2nd, the people must value education; graduate high school & get into college to get a good job so they can pay taxes! Most Latinos & illegals do not value education, hence no job so .: they do not pay taxes, and not only that, Latinos put a burden on state by joining gangs, going on welfare, & going to jail .: wasting our tax revenue!
It does not take a lot of money to teach art, music, or athletics. When I TA at UCSD, I was paid peanuts, but loved it because it was an honor. I do not need more money or anything fancy, I could teach 200 students with a board and a piece of chalk. This is what you call 'real' caring for teaching. But the CA teachers' Union does not share this kind of sentiment. Your stupid rhetoric is typical of Union(Teachers) constipated neanderthal logic.
you taught at a college. BIG WHOOP! get the hell off youtube and go do something with your life. stop making assumptions about the whole latino community and go do something worth everyones time. youre not going to change anything by sounding like an asshole on youtube.
I did not say "whole Latino community", I said "most Latinos". And they are not assumptions. Every year close to 2/3 of Latinos drop out of Los Angeles Unified. These teachers(Unions) have a dismal track record. If what I say is wrong, why is it every year, I do not see any Latinos or Black person at UCSD in Science or Engineering? Because they are stupid? Asians are smarter? No, because the CA teachers Union failed them!
CA teachers' salary comes from taxes collected from businesses and most importantly college graduates - like engineers, doctors, & scientists working for those businesses. But now we are in an economic recession businesses are closing and leaving CA - those billions of dollars we wasted on educating illegals that do not care about education cannot pay enough taxes to pay the CA teachers' union! Heck these illegals cannot even take care of themselves!
If I was a racist or an asshole like you assume, why do I care so much about Latinos or Blacks in Engineering? I bring it up because it is very sad. I care because these majors are critical for America to get out of this recession. And the teachers Union of CA have failed Latinos miserably. I know this because they are starting to put a burden on Asians students/families with higher taxes and higher tuition. I still see Asians in Engineering, but now increasingly these Asians are OVERSEAS!
Nobody talks about how Asian Americans suffers from CA teachers union. Asians students suffer from both higher college tuition and even worst they are ill prepared by the lower standards that caters to illegals. Asian families suffer from high taxes and we struggle to put our kids into college. We comprise less than 3% of the pop. of CA but almost a 100% of the student body in Engineering and Science majors.
The last two comments by the "gun clinger" are perfect examples of why we need to have education as our highest priority. The ignorant always like to blame the poor and the helpless for their problems. We should tax the rich people that can afford it. Children need to have someone to help stand up for their education. The more kids that drop out of school equals more money spent on them in prison and more crime in the streets.
I blame the teachers because their union lobbies for amnesty. The teachers do not stand up against the Union. More illegals = More teachers = more dues for their union. Hence the teachers' union policy encourages illegals to have more kids, so more can drop out, and .: request more tax money! But now we are in a recession, and illegals do not pay taxes - your teachers Union catering to illegals now has backfired and you put at risk millions of Asian students.
California Teachers Union whine and complain of the budget cuts! CTU needs more money, more taxes for educating illegals who do not value education at the expense of Asian families here in California! But the CTU does not care, as long as they take our money. More illegals => more teachers => more dues to the Union! But now this plan backfires because illegals do not pay taxes and college families(mostly Asians) are taxed into recession, hence no more tax revenue!
Imagine less than 3% of the population of CA paying for almost 100% of tuition of the engineering and science majors of UC schools! Not only do Asians pay billions of dollars to UC schools in tuition, but also when we graduate we pay billions more in taxes when we get high tech jobs. Now CA wants to increase our taxes!!! And for what? for more illegals? who never graduate from high school, let alone college!!!
The reason why the CA teachers union caters to illegals is because it forces CA to hire new teachers. More teachers means more dues for the Union, hence more taxes. But this policy backfires when the people they are educating do not care about education and on top of that these illegals do not graduate from college and get high paying jobs to pay taxes!
These teachers are asses for using innocent children to promote their selfish political agenda. How much do you think these kid's will be hurting when their parents lose their jobs because the companies they work for go out of business or leave the state because of the recently passed tax hikes. We've already had too many businesses leave the state or shut down because of high taxes, incredible waste, and out of control spending in Sacramento. High taxes hurt far more than spending cuts.
Angry Tired Teachers SUCK! California's Angry Tired Taxpayers are fed up with seeing the income they bust their asses for being sucked up like coke by the greedy ass politicians who waste it on illegal aliens, welfare whores and teachers union thugs. There is a tax revolt coming in California, and tax payers will rise up and turn off the free money spigot to all of you who suck off the government nipple and have the audacity to demand more from us tax payers.
It's NOT too late! It's NOT OVER! The recent vote from the HUSD Asshole Board, caused a mass walk-out at Hayward High School this Friday. Plus, a class-action law suit might be coming.
Also, There's going to be a mass rally tomorrow Tues. Feb. 17th at:
Palma Ceia Park Hayward, CA
27600 Decatur Way (Between Miami Ave and Panama St)
Instead of doing the right thing by cutting some questionable , over-paid Admin. positions. HUSD's rich and clueless Superintendent and board of director's choose to punish students by taking away the block schedule and elementary school music programs. How do these people think they're helping kids by doing this? We all have to call them now and tell them what we think of their stupid plan to save money by hurting students and teachers.

Get off your judgmental pedestal and learn to love.
lokeloke555 2 years ago
What can I do with my piece of Chalk? For painting, I can just buy colored chalk. For sculpting I can use the chalk, scrap paper, card board and do sculpting. For music I can donate my guitar(I have 3 of them), download an electronic piano, make homemade intsrutments(art & music). I can teach anything, because I have the passion for it - I do not need money to motivate me to teach; I use my ingenuity, my creativity, and my passion to teach art or music, the same way I teach engineering!
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 years ago

WOW!!! UCSDEngineerDoctor, you are a scary individual!! I've been reading your comments and people like you are really frightening!

Teachers should be paid well since they shape our future by teaching our future Doctors, Lawyers and Engineers.
The teachers union protects them, gives them a chance to earn a decent living, not a rich one, but a fair one.
We're all immigrants, (are you 100% Native American Mr. UCSDE ?) I don't think so, so yes, I think it's time to shut the *^%$%! up!!!
kanesloane 2 years ago
kanesloane - I am paid well as a teacher because I am good at my job, not because of the Union.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 years ago
alright. so now you are making assumptions about me. as a matter of fact i am 18, but i am going to a university, paying for my own bills, and working two jobs to put myself through school. my parents pay for nothing so all this ridiculous nonsense that you are speaking is a waste of breath. you are a very well spoken person, yet you seem pretty damn hard headed. again, get over yourself and stop arguing with people on youtube. thanks. no shut the hell up please.
bandgeeksRus08 2 years ago
Going to University? You are going to pay higher Tuition - because the Unions just lobbied the CA assembly to increase your land tax, sales tax, and state income tax. You obviously live at home, so your parents are going to feel the pinch; I know i have, paying close to $15,000 a year in land tax, and it keeps going up every year. Bandgeek do you pay for your own car registration? insurance? gas? Do you pay your fair share of house bills? Including land tax? water? electric? insurance?
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 years ago
actually i am living in the dorms. and i am paying for everything. my parents pay for NOTHING. as ive stated before. (fyi ive got better things to do with my life then have an endless conversation with a stubborn ignorant fool, so this will be my last comment. thanks and have a great life)
bandgeeksRus08 2 years ago

UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 years ago
i like how everyone is arguing about taxes and illegal immigrants and such. lol. the video was posted by teachers who care about the kids they teach and who need more money in order to keep programs such as art, and music, and athletics open for kids. stop bickering about nonsense.
bandgeeksRus08 2 years ago
To educate a kid requires 2 things esp in CA: 1st of all it requires Taxes coming from property tax and state tax! No tax revenue = no education! 2nd, the people must value education; graduate high school & get into college to get a good job so they can pay taxes! Most Latinos & illegals do not value education, hence no job so .: they do not pay taxes, and not only that, Latinos put a burden on state by joining gangs, going on welfare, & going to jail .: wasting our tax revenue!
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 years ago
It does not take a lot of money to teach art, music, or athletics. When I TA at UCSD, I was paid peanuts, but loved it because it was an honor. I do not need more money or anything fancy, I could teach 200 students with a board and a piece of chalk. This is what you call 'real' caring for teaching. But the CA teachers' Union does not share this kind of sentiment. Your stupid rhetoric is typical of Union(Teachers) constipated neanderthal logic.
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 years ago
you taught at a college. BIG WHOOP! get the hell off youtube and go do something with your life. stop making assumptions about the whole latino community and go do something worth everyones time. youre not going to change anything by sounding like an asshole on youtube.
bandgeeksRus08 2 years ago
I did not say "whole Latino community", I said "most Latinos". And they are not assumptions. Every year close to 2/3 of Latinos drop out of Los Angeles Unified. These teachers(Unions) have a dismal track record. If what I say is wrong, why is it every year, I do not see any Latinos or Black person at UCSD in Science or Engineering? Because they are stupid? Asians are smarter? No, because the CA teachers Union failed them!
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 years ago

UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 years ago
California Teachers Union whine and complain of the budget cuts! CTU needs more money, more taxes for educating illegals who do not value education at the expense of Asian families here in California! But the CTU does not care, as long as they take our money. More illegals => more teachers => more dues to the Union! But now this plan backfires because illegals do not pay taxes and college families(mostly Asians) are taxed into recession, hence no more tax revenue!
UCSDEngineerDoctor 2 years ago
