@MrConredsX Actually, the Vampire Killer usually gets turned into a spiked chain with a morning star on the end infused with holy power and it apparently has the soul of a Belmont in it. so it's not a horsewhip, it's the best weapon to use against Castlevania.

@MolochMekkane Mostly correct. The soul inside the Vampire Killer Whip is the soul of Sara, the betrothed of Leon Belmont from Lament of Innocence. She sacrificed her soul to be fused with the whip so that Leon could have the power to kill vampires with the Whip of Alchemy, and to avoid becoming a vampire herself (she had been bitten by Walter, the main villain of that game). Thus, the Whip of Alchemy got the name "Vampire Killer."

The DS as with all other Castlevanias after Symphony of the Night are mixes between Castlevania and Metroid, exploring a castle fighting bosses and saving at points along the way. I like them, but not as much as the older ones. I'd suggest trying the new ones and if you dont like them you should go and play the older castlevanias for NES and SNES, the would play more like the one you're use to. Super Castlevania 4 comes to mind, but Bloodlines and such are also good.
