It is 1984, myself and my best friend John are heading down to the jersey shore to lay out in the sun and look at girls! Ray Parker Jr had so many good songs! This song brings back memories. We had both of his albums at that time. I wouldnt mind being 19 again, man did I meet a lot of pretty women back then! What memories!!! LOL
This song is one of the great oldies that anyone can just drift back to the good times...however, if you listen to the lyrics...isn't it kinda...stalkerish?
I know back in the 80's it was cool to be completely devoted and soulfully in love, but, now in days, this guy would have been considered 'creepy'.
i don't know how anyone can mention Raydio without Jerry Knight's lead on vocals. Jerry, i know how great a singer you are. hell, you can name the band after yourself all you want, but i didn't even think of Ray Parker. you were the real Raydio. i hope you read this, bruh. thanks for the memories.
Im the 7th grade in IL & this song is HOT & Im playin it over and over on my stereo I miss being 13 in 1979 I think holds true through the years" Youre the one I love how I wanted to say that to a few crushes in the past!!! Youre the only one I love now forever Chad Gandy!!!
@lizzardsgumby81 I miss being 16 in 1979.The world today is doomed with all the Haters. The 1970 with it's innocents and love abounding will be like the World To Come when Satan is locked away in his pit.
I heard this song in H-E-B today. I like it. Even though I'm 13, I'm into oldies! Is that bad? Sorry if it is! Its just that they're better than the songs these days!
Whatever happened to Ray Parker? He was good looking, had a voice that was smooth as silk, and appealed to all races. Just doesn't seem right that such a total package became so obscure.
i should have been a radio dj, my show would play only classics like this...i haven't heard this since me & my brother used to share a one speaker am/fm portable with electrical tape on the battery door....
Great song by Raydio! Peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 1979! This song sounds like it's told from the point of view of a stalker, doesn't it?!
Love this song. Takes me back to a time and place when all life's worries were how to spend my 10 dollar weekly allowance and meeting a cute girl at the local roller rink.
I grew up listening to r&b among other genres. This song takes me way back. I'm stuck in the 70s and 80s when it comes to R&B. I just can't listen to much of the new stuff these days. And the rap? Man, Tupac is surely rolling over in his grave! So is Ol' Dirty Bastard, for that matter. What i mean is that i feel like the music today really is missing SOUL. it's not a color or culture, it's simply, SOUL.
All I have to do is hear the opening keyboard riff from this song, and I'm instantly transported back to shooting baskets with my Dad, in the Summer of 1982. Ray Parker was a damn genius. RIP and I love you always, Dad.
Back when MUSIC and PEOPLE were COOL...Now everybody has to look tough with their gold teeth and their pants pulled down...GROW UP LOSERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard this song playing in the supermarket a little while ago and I found myself singing along and practically dancing down the aisles with my cart. Love this tune!
cant keep me from loving you so already know proud to kept things as a gentleman i as a woman whats next kiss for discretion for attudiction so i can make things happen long the whys come depository sit do all your talking and soon find leftmiles of caughtual of bossin;
I was at a restaurant today waiting in line at the buffet. They were playing this song on the sound system and this little kid, maybe 5 or 6 years old, was singing along to the refrain and having a blast doing it. Every time he got to "you can't change that!" he would sing it extra loud.
When I here this song I'm 16 again, driving around town with my first love, this song playing and her singing to it to me. This could be the worst song in the world, but to me it will always be magic.
This wonderful song takes me back. I was a teenager working at a drive-in movie theater when it came out. It always reminded me of the box office girl, who was a stunning & wonderfully nice person. All the guys were in love with her. She never knew what I had in my heart for her, but she'd always be playing a radio in the booth. How could I not associate songs with her? There was one particular night this was on & we shared a great conversation. The night was perfect with the stars out. Cheers.
@clockworktim Aww...what a nice story :) . Songs trigger memories and moments in our past so strongly. I really like this song. I remember in my early teens, always feeling good when I heard it. It still makes me feel that way in fact.
@makme514 Thank You as I could not have said that better myself. This is a great tune and beats todays crap that you hear on radio. The brain dead sluts who dislike this tune probably were not born when this came out and don't like old school music and are hip hop dopes.

This is a happy go lucky tune that you would ride down the express way on a beautiful spring day and summer evening with a bottle of shampange. Not a stalker song, you fucking idiots!!!!!!!
Geez....some people really need to get the eff over themselves and their delusional superiority and disdain. It's a song for God's sakes...not a manual on harassing somebody!!
Wow...some people got this song ALL THE WAY WRONG! This song is not about stalking at all. Listen closely to the first line "Honey I'll always love you...I promise to always love you...'cause I think the whole world of you and you can't change that."
This is a song about loving someone unconditionally....no matter if they change how they look or whatever.
Now if you want to listen to lyrics that sound close to stalking how about "Every Breath You Take" by the Police?
Are YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!? Anyone who thinks this song is about "stalking" is a complete imbecile!!! He's saying that no matter what changes may happen in the Woman's life, his love will always be undying and unchanging. She might change, things about her might change, but he will always love her just the same. Any one of you who thinks this song is about stalking is an idiot. Don't read so much into it. It's a love song, you morons. Learn how to understand creative use of words and phrases!
@captaincupcake88 -thank you brah. you see that's the mentality today when youngsters hear music like this. he's not even close to singing about or having the intentions of a damn stalker. what senseless garbage. you see that's how they think today because 85% of these clowns don't know what love is,what feeling are,how to express feeling, or show love towards anyone.the music today is all about my dick,my bitch,my gun,my bling, beef, the strip club,22 inch' rims,my money and fuck all the haters.
@captaincupcake88 I know... It's bizarre. (I never thought of this as ANYTHING but a love song, and perhaps even a vaguely Christian song.) How much do you want to bet that the person above who POSTED about its "garrish [sic] meaning" is German?
@yarekhunt All things considered, every genre of music has it's "positive" and "negative" tunes. It's all in one's perception. One can see this song as a "garrish" stalker song or see it as a person deeply in love who's trying to move on. What's most important though is the music we listen to over the years symbolizes a soundtrack 2 our lives. Just my $.02...
@yarekhunt DO tell. Silly me, but what is the "garish" meaning of this song? It appears that Australians also neglect the meanings of a song, as brides there also choose "Every Breath You Take" as their first dance song. (It's about STALKING...)
"You can change your telephone no.; You can change your adress too, ".....not to mention " You can change the color of your hair,...bla bla bla
Hmmm, yes, SO typical of American society (what does THAT mean?). I suppose the lyrics COULD mean something sinister like this, but I REALLY doubt it. That's like saying the song "I'm My Own Grandfather" is a song about incest, or "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree" is "an example of American degradation of nature"
@yarekhunt -What garrish meaning? You can take this song, like any other song, and interpret however anyone wants it to be. That the beauty of music, you can interpret it the way you'd like to.
@yarekhunt It's your mindset that is the problem. What "garrish meaning"? Do you mean garish as in brightly colored or loud? I ask because I didn't hear any lyrics that made me think "stalker" as someone else suggested. I heard a man sing about loving a woman so much that she could do just about anything and he would still love her. Is that not positive? I am not criticizing your choice of music just wondering where your heads at that you could find a problem with this song.
"you can change your telephone number, you can your address too,but you can't stop me from loving you no YOU CAN"T CHANGE THAT!!!!!"wow lol......still love the song though
I feel sorry for kids today. This was such great stuff, nobody does it anymore. Just can't be improved upon. and they sold without having to take their clothes off.
yes this a stalker song --but back in the day "stalking" was called persistance and if you look back at movies and music it was seen as a sign of true love-weird how things change---I remember this from 1979---i was in 6th grade-all the girls though Ray Parker was the cutest thing alive ...
The fabulous 70's and you can't change that! no music like this music... brings me back to a much happier time..when everyone partied got along and had so much fun...I miss those days wish we cant turn back the hands of time......Happy Happy song! Great music, memories, friends, and the best of times!
Thank you BearRilla33 for posting a great classic and memory!
@2009Denisem OMG what a fantastic track, think it was 1979, where has the time gone ? been ages since i heard this, oh yes!! thank you for a great posting
@2009Denisem You are SO right!!!!!!!!. I grew up with great music like this. The VERY BEST music came out in the 70's,before all of the crap they call music showed up.I feel sorry for all the youngsters who never heard great stuff like this......too bad...................
This song came out right after our tornado hit Cheyenne on July 16, 1979. I love this song but the memories of the tornado haunt me whenever I hear this song. It's a very strange bittersweet feeling. We had normal, dry summers before 1980. After 1980, we have had more humidity in Cheyenne, noticeably more. Anyway I love this love song/ radiosong!
I like that you incorporate music and weather together, so do I. This song reminds me of Tropical Storm Claudette in Houston Texas, were I was living at the time. Massive flooding and the al time record rainfall set for 24 hours....42inches!
@menaceofdennis Yes, and that reminds me of the alltime snow record for 24 hours set in Silver Lake, Colorado in the 1920s...76 inches of snow!!! That is some record rainfall you had in Houston!!!

BearRilla33 1 year ago 4
@yarekhunt DO tell. Silly me, but what is the "garish" meaning of this song? It appears that Australians also neglect the meanings of a song, as brides there also choose "Every Breath You Take" as their first dance song. (It's about STALKING...)
shmuli9 1 year ago
@yarekhunt garish song
To:shmuli9
"You can change your telephone no.; You can change your adress too, ".....not to mention " You can change the color of your hair,...bla bla bla
Hmmm, yes, SO typical of American society (what does THAT mean?). I suppose the lyrics COULD mean something sinister like this, but I REALLY doubt it. That's like saying the song "I'm My Own Grandfather" is a song about incest, or "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree" is "an example of American degradation of nature"
shmuli9 1 year ago
@yarekhunt -What garrish meaning? You can take this song, like any other song, and interpret however anyone wants it to be. That the beauty of music, you can interpret it the way you'd like to.
charlene12341234 1 year ago
@yarekhunt It's your mindset that is the problem. What "garrish meaning"? Do you mean garish as in brightly colored or loud? I ask because I didn't hear any lyrics that made me think "stalker" as someone else suggested. I heard a man sing about loving a woman so much that she could do just about anything and he would still love her. Is that not positive? I am not criticizing your choice of music just wondering where your heads at that you could find a problem with this song.

yes this a stalker song --but back in the day "stalking" was called persistance and if you look back at movies and music it was seen as a sign of true love-weird how things change---I remember this from 1979---i was in 6th grade-all the girls though Ray Parker was the cutest thing alive ...

IQ136 1 year ago
@IQ136
I like that you incorporate music and weather together, so do I. This song reminds me of Tropical Storm Claudette in Houston Texas, were I was living at the time. Massive flooding and the al time record rainfall set for 24 hours....42inches!
menaceofdennis 1 year ago
@menaceofdennis Yes, and that reminds me of the alltime snow record for 24 hours set in Silver Lake, Colorado in the 1920s...76 inches of snow!!! That is some record rainfall you had in Houston!!!
