  • Song about a stalker...

  • It is 1984, myself and my best friend John are heading down to the jersey shore to lay out in the sun and look at girls! Ray Parker Jr had so many good songs! This song brings back memories. We had both of his albums at that time. I wouldnt mind being 19 again, man did I meet a lot of pretty women back then! What memories!!! LOL

  • Love this song!

  • Timeless masterpiece!

  • What a great song! I will always love it.

  • This song is one of the great oldies that anyone can just drift back to the good times...however, if you listen to the lyrics...isn't it kinda...stalkerish?

I know back in the 80's it was cool to be completely devoted and soulfully in love, but, now in days, this guy would have been considered 'creepy'.

  • My jam! Feel me?

  • I want to go home......

  • i don't know how anyone can mention Raydio without Jerry Knight's lead on vocals. Jerry, i know how great a singer you are. hell, you can name the band after yourself all you want, but i didn't even think of Ray Parker. you were the real Raydio. i hope you read this, bruh. thanks for the memories.

  • One of the 1st songs I learned to play on the bass...

  • nothin better than raydio and you cant change that!

  • You can't!!

  • Man, dig the female backup vocalists in the background of this song...How beautifully done!!!

  • This is what Eric Benet sampled for You're The Only One

  • Working at a Hartford Ct radio station and have played this MANY times....still sounds Great.....back to summer 79

  • Its been a great song for years too bad we don,t hear songs like this anymore

    rodi

  • Detroit Funk at it's smoothest....& you can't change that !!

  • When this song was popular, my dad lip syncd this song 2 me.I was only about 5.Always had a fond memory of this song since then!

  • This song just puts you in a good mood.

  • Im the 7th grade in IL & this song is HOT & Im playin it over and over on my stereo I miss being 13 in 1979 I think holds true through the years" Youre the one I love how I wanted to say that to a few crushes in the past!!! Youre the only one I love now forever Chad Gandy!!!

  • @lizzardsgumby81 I miss being 16 in 1979.The world today is doomed with all the Haters. The 1970 with it's innocents and love abounding will be like the World To Come when Satan is locked away in his pit.

  • A classic! Man when music was still music!!!!

  • My favorite Ray Parker Jr Song!

  • ray is not the star in this group, its the high pitched lead singer!

  • I heard this song in H-E-B today. I like it. Even though I'm 13, I'm into oldies! Is that bad? Sorry if it is! Its just that they're better than the songs these days!

  • @somerandomgirlgeek Like who ever who want! I'm 18 and I'm addicted to these songs.

  • @TheOptimus1993 Oh ok! :D I love these songs! Back when songs were actually songs...

  • Awesome music! I like it!

  • Whatever happened to Ray Parker? He was good looking, had a voice that was smooth as silk, and appealed to all races. Just doesn't seem right that such a total package became so obscure.

  • Only in todays society can someone make this out to be a deranged song i could not have said it any better. thanks Retrojenny. Cathy

  • i should have been a radio dj, my show would play only classics like this...i haven't heard this since me & my brother used to share a one speaker am/fm portable with electrical tape on the battery door....

  • For the Special Woman within my LIFE!Who can never change the true love that I have so deeply within my heart and soul!I LOVE YOU; SPECIAL K!

  • this is my shit right here !!!!

  • I love you so...and You Can't Change That.

  • Im 16, I like this song

  • real cool vocal harmonies

  • ray parker jr, is my cousin, he is my 2nd cousin. :p

  • oh im in love with him, hes so fine, sos his beautiful voice an this song

  • Every Guy who has fallen in Love and their Girl has left them. Has felt every word in this song. Trust Me....I'm talking from Heart....

  • Love it! Takes me back to sweet 16...aahhhh....such care free days...

  • @jjford1963 care free days? what do you call these days then?

  • IAM IN 9TH GRADE AGAIN,THANKS

  • (Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of jamesmotte at twitter)

  • 6 people can't change the fact that they're morons and can't appreciate good music when they hear it! :-P

  • Great song by Raydio! Peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 1979! This song sounds like it's told from the point of view of a stalker, doesn't it?!

Anyway, "Rock On" Ray Parker, Jr.!

  • feel good music......

  • @ReasonedResponse AMEN!!!!

  • Sounds like a song about a stalker."You can change your telephone number. And you can change your address too. But you can't stop me from loving you

    No, you can't change that"

  • @jimstylin not ! he says he loves her unconditionally ! even if she goes the love lasts inside him , no stalking just respect for her choices too

  • @jimstylin not ! he says he loves her unconditionally ! even if she goes the love lasts inside him , no stalking just respect for her choices too

  • Another 70's classic. CH

  • Love this song. Takes me back to a time and place when all life's worries were how to spend my 10 dollar weekly allowance and meeting a cute girl at the local roller rink.

  • I grew up listening to r&b among other genres. This song takes me way back. I'm stuck in the 70s and 80s when it comes to R&B. I just can't listen to much of the new stuff these days. And the rap? Man, Tupac is surely rolling over in his grave! So is Ol' Dirty Bastard, for that matter. What i mean is that i feel like the music today really is missing SOUL. it's not a color or culture, it's simply, SOUL.

  • You can get a restraining order, you can change your address too, but you can't stop me from stalking you... no you can't change that. lol

  • If you have issues with this song, you're demented!

  • Ray and the boys hit #9 in Billboard, 8-18-79. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • I used to listen to this with my father all the time. He's the reason I like the music I listen to today, and I am 17. I thank him for that.

  • Massively deep pocket!

  • All I have to do is hear the opening keyboard riff from this song, and I'm instantly transported back to shooting baskets with my Dad, in the Summer of 1982. Ray Parker was a damn genius. RIP and I love you always, Dad.

  • @SouthOCmixdown Congrats bro..you just made a grown ass man cry. Church, man.

  • This song just popped into my head and and I had to Google the lyrics. I had no idea this was Ray Parker Jr.

  • this is some good memories and YOU CAN'T CHANGE THAT

  • Great song!! Thanks for sharing.

  • I heard this song playing in the supermarket a little while ago and I found myself singing along and practically dancing down the aisles with my cart. Love this tune!

  • This song is one that you know the words and you will sing along with it anytime and anyplace.

  • @Scorpion1054 True indeed! I heard this in a store today and was jammin to it! Favorite line:

"They'll change a dollar bill, but let me tell you one thing: you won't change the way I feel!"

  • cant keep me from loving you so already know proud to kept things as a gentleman i as a woman whats next kiss for discretion for attudiction so i can make things happen long the whys come depository sit do all your talking and soon find leftmiles of caughtual of bossin;

  • I was at a restaurant today waiting in line at the buffet. They were playing this song on the sound system and this little kid, maybe 5 or 6 years old, was singing along to the refrain and having a blast doing it. Every time he got to "you can't change that!" he would sing it extra loud.

  • When I here this song I'm 16 again, driving around town with my first love, this song playing and her singing to it to me. This could be the worst song in the world, but to me it will always be magic.

  • @darkendninja and you cant change that, I was about 5 years old, I thought that this was a white man back in the days when i was a kid. lol

  • i can call the cops

  • This wonderful song takes me back. I was a teenager working at a drive-in movie theater when it came out. It always reminded me of the box office girl, who was a stunning & wonderfully nice person. All the guys were in love with her. She never knew what I had in my heart for her, but she'd always be playing a radio in the booth. How could I not associate songs with her? There was one particular night this was on & we shared a great conversation. The night was perfect with the stars out. Cheers.

  • @clockworktim Aww...what a nice story :) . Songs trigger memories and moments in our past so strongly. I really like this song. I remember in my early teens, always feeling good when I heard it. It still makes me feel that way in fact.

  • the people who disliked this song are idiots, and you cant change that, lol.

  • @makme514 No, they are teens/preteens whose parents have never taken the time to expose them to the classics......AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE THAT!!!!!!!

  • @makme514 Good one.

  • @makme514 Thank You as I could not have said that better myself. This is a great tune and beats todays crap that you hear on radio. The brain dead sluts who dislike this tune probably were not born when this came out and don't like old school music and are hip hop dopes.

  • @makme514 big smile....

  • @makme514 HAHAHAHAHAHA.: D

  • official stalker anthem

  • "YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE I LOVE....AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE THAT!"...LOVE IT!!! I WAS 9 YEARS OLD AND KNEW GOOD MUSIC WHEN I HEARD IT!! THANK YOU FOR THE GREAT MEMORIES....GREAT POST!!

  • THE VERY FIRST VERSE OF THIS CUT IS THE BEST, AND WHEN THE CAT SAYS .. YOU MAY CHANGE A DOLLAR BILL..........HIGH SCHOOL DAYS AND BEING IN LOVE WITH YOUR GIRL..........OH YEAH, I STILL HAVE MINE SINCE HIGH SCHOOL 25 YRS LATER..............

  • Clouds move aside - love comes to you - happiness reigns - beautiful song made for loving the one you love

  • mitic song, Unforgetable...

  • The days when music was truly inclusive to everyone! And not exclusive to one sect of people or another!!!!!

  • oh da memories.....u cant change that

  • I remember this when I was a kid - good song

  • oooh! love is a mother f------

  • Only in today's society would someone find this song deranged. People are too serious and need to chill out. It's just a song!

  • @RetroJenny AMEN!!

  • @BearRilla33 AMEN!!

  • @RetroJenny im sorry for some of the idiots of my generation, all they hear is crap on the radio and its brainwashed them, good thing for me i have youtube and awesome parents who got me into the whole 60s 70s and 80s music real musicians and real music!

  • @RetroJenny I'm with you, little sister. You have to come looking for trouble to find it in a song like this. F 'em. Let's dance!

  • @TheKingOfSkiffle AMEN AGAIN!! Let's dance then!! ***smile***

  • @RetroJenny Well said! Today's society is ultra ridgid...it sucks

  • @RetroJenny I second that Amen!

  • @RetroJenny

Agree a million percent. Its an innocent song AND very good I might add!

  • @RetroJenny Oh yes. People need to open up to the great music. I'm 18 and I love 60s, 70s, and 80s music.

  • To yarekhunt-what does "yarekhunt" mean? Sounds like the "C" word, to me! which is worse than garrish- your caunt? How disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Yet, I must add that the year ROCK ON was released was during the time when the Atlanta Child Murders started-1979 in July was the first killing of Edward Hope Smith-Alfred Evans ect. Let's not for get these children who would now be in the 40's in 2011.

  • This is a happy go lucky tune that you would ride down the express way on a beautiful spring day and summer evening with a bottle of shampange. Not a stalker song, you fucking idiots!!!!!!!

  • Geez....some people really need to get the eff over themselves and their delusional superiority and disdain. It's a song for God's sakes...not a manual on harassing somebody!!

  • Wow...some people got this song ALL THE WAY WRONG! This song is not about stalking at all. Listen closely to the first line "Honey I'll always love you...I promise to always love you...'cause I think the whole world of you and you can't change that."

This is a song about loving someone unconditionally....no matter if they change how they look or whatever.

Now if you want to listen to lyrics that sound close to stalking how about "Every Breath You Take" by the Police?

  • @soulgirl66 Thank you!!!!!! Couldn't have said it better myself. Think people!!!!

  • Are YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!? Anyone who thinks this song is about "stalking" is a complete imbecile!!! He's saying that no matter what changes may happen in the Woman's life, his love will always be undying and unchanging. She might change, things about her might change, but he will always love her just the same. Any one of you who thinks this song is about stalking is an idiot. Don't read so much into it. It's a love song, you morons. Learn how to understand creative use of words and phrases!

  • @captaincupcake88 -thank you brah. you see that's the mentality today when youngsters hear music like this. he's not even close to singing about or having the intentions of a damn stalker. what senseless garbage. you see that's how they think today because 85% of these clowns don't know what love is,what feeling are,how to express feeling, or show love towards anyone.the music today is all about my dick,my bitch,my gun,my bling, beef, the strip club,22 inch' rims,my money and fuck all the haters.

  • @captaincupcake88 I know... It's bizarre. (I never thought of this as ANYTHING but a love song, and perhaps even a vaguely Christian song.) How much do you want to bet that the person above who POSTED about its "garrish [sic] meaning" is German?

  • Comment removed

  • @yarekhunt All things considered, every genre of music has it's "positive" and "negative" tunes. It's all in one's perception. One can see this song as a "garrish" stalker song or see it as a person deeply in love who's trying to move on. What's most important though is the music we listen to over the years symbolizes a soundtrack 2 our lives. Just my $.02...

  • @yarekhunt DO tell. Silly me, but what is the "garish" meaning of this song? It appears that Australians also neglect the meanings of a song, as brides there also choose "Every Breath You Take" as their first dance song. (It's about STALKING...)

  • @yarekhunt garish song

    To:shmuli9

"You can change your telephone no.; You can change your adress too, ".....not to mention " You can change the color of your hair,...bla bla bla

Hmmm, yes, SO typical of American society (what does THAT mean?). I suppose the lyrics COULD mean something sinister like this, but I REALLY doubt it. That's like saying the song "I'm My Own Grandfather" is a song about incest, or "Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree" is "an example of American degradation of nature"

  • @yarekhunt -What garrish meaning? You can take this song, like any other song, and interpret however anyone wants it to be. That the beauty of music, you can interpret it the way you'd like to.

  • @yarekhunt It's your mindset that is the problem. What "garrish meaning"? Do you mean garish as in brightly colored or loud? I ask because I didn't hear any lyrics that made me think "stalker" as someone else suggested. I heard a man sing about loving a woman so much that she could do just about anything and he would still love her. Is that not positive? I am not criticizing your choice of music just wondering where your heads at that you could find a problem with this song.

  • @yarekhunt Grow up, you douche.

  • @TheKingOfSkiffle blow me

  • in 1979 I was 19 years old and I know "you can't change that" but what matters is that I still can here gooooood music.... ;-)

  • Man! the 70's and 80's the best hands down the best R/B music this inspires me to keep make good music!

  • this sound came from lp?

  • just heard a snippet of this on ' that 70s show - season 7, episode 20' great memories thanks for posting

  • Is that brother Ray doin' the 1st vocals? Billboard's #30 song of '79. Raydio hit #3 soul, #9 pop, #25 AC, in Billboard. God bless!

  • I can change everything in this life , but not what i fill for her , superwow!!!!

  • @JeanAxenlas The best!!! :-)

  • This song came out right after our tornado hit Cheyenne on July 16, 1979. I love this song but the memories of the tornado haunt me whenever I hear this song. It's a very strange bittersweet feeling. We had normal, dry summers before 1980. After 1980, we have had more humidity in Cheyenne, noticeably more. Anyway I love this love song/ radiosong!

  • @IQ136

I like that you incorporate music and weather together, so do I. This song reminds me of Tropical Storm Claudette in Houston Texas, were I was living at the time. Massive flooding and the al time record rainfall set for 24 hours....42inches!

  • @menaceofdennis Yes, and that reminds me of the alltime snow record for 24 hours set in Silver Lake, Colorado in the 1920s...76 inches of snow!!! That is some record rainfall you had in Houston!!!
