Hey Aaron -- that looks like a possibly Gibson-made MayBell. Either Gib or Regal -- there's controversy about these guys -- what's the neck profile? Hard V or softer D shape?
@jakewildwood Its a V, but not a super nasty one like the turn of the century stuff. It is solid spruce top, solid hog back and sides and maple neck. I can't tell if its carved or bent though. the body shape is pretty unlike any small body gibsons I've seen, but not far from some regal shapes.
@jakewildwood Also, it has very pronounced arching top and back and is deeper than my epiphone! fingerboard is elevated off the top and is good hard rosewood. The stripe on the back is painted on but the rest of the celluoid binding is legit. It kind of feels like a mini L 4, I have to admit. hmm a mystery
@ackeim Curious stuff. My Kalamazoo KG-21 is a very deep-body, small-waisted sort of fellow like that, and I know the older ones (30s) had v-necks of comfortable proportion but my own has a round neck (c.1940). Most Regals had a 1 3/4" nut width all the way through until they closed shop, but yours looks a little narrower than that. The elevated fingerboard would tend to suggest it's not a Gib make, though, and put it more in the Regal camp. Confusin!
sounds awsome!

tips for playing this on uke?

@JoeytheGrape
F chord for a really long time, then Bb, then C, then back to F.
that little riff can be done by adding 2nd then 3rd fret on the c string while strumming the f chord.
does that make sense?

@ackeim Yes, it does when the uke's in my hands. Thanks a lot. Any of the riffs are easy to figure out once I have the basic chord progression.

@jakewildwood it is 1 3/4, but is a different shape than your Kalamazoo, for sure. I wish we could put them together and compare!
