DaveyBoy/d@39, Earthquake/d@42, Giant/d@46, Morella/d@31... Whether drugs, being encouraged to stay huge, or an accident caused by the exhaustion of driving a grueling schedule, pro wrestling's a killer.
What a lame commentary. Also Hayes claims he never saw Earthquake slammed. Hogan slammed Earthquake in all of their matches and Hayes commentated a few of those.
alfred hayes was such a dick as a commentator, almost every vid i watch that he commentates on he fucks up the script in some way or get s the name of the wrestlers wrong, he's called smash crush, mixed up the beverly brothers, and said during the hart foundation/LOD match "they will need to try more harder" respect for the guy as a wrestler and a gent but fuck me he wasn't born to commentate!
Mooney says the Bulldog weighed 275lbs....at The Wrestling Classic in 1985 davey boy was announced @ 227 (though I think they mixed him and Dynamite Kid up as Dynamite was announced as 242.....)
I think this was a rare pinfall loss for Earthquake -- I can't recall him being pinned very often during the first years of his initial WWF run from 1989 to 1991. Maybe a few times by Warrior, but more often than not, Dino Bravo would run in for the DQ.
this match was on the 1992 european tour video, but this match looks like it was from the summer before for a few reasons...
1.andre the giant.'s presence and his mobility....(remember: andre had his knee taken out by quake on superstars of wrestling some weeks prior to summerslam '91)
2.earthquake's wearing his blue outfit (meaning this was before tugboat turned heel and teamed up with quake)
Sad Fact:Everyone involved in this match (including Alfred Hayes, excluding Jimmy Hart) are deceased.Idk who is with Hayes (maybe Mooney).RIP to all the fallen!
Not a bad match. Davey Boy in the middle of getting one of the bigger pushes of his career, and Earthquake about to get a push as part of the Natual Disasters Tag Team. Back in this day, this match would have been huge in my eye. Anyone could have won this match.
Davey had a great look, great in ring ability but he could'nt cut a promo to save his life, that and his personal stuff is why Davey never quite made it to the top spot. Though was a nearly man.
@frednichols about his personal stuff? Well Davey had huge drugs problems outside the ring, thats what led to his departure in 1992. He probably had his best run, as a hell anywayz, in 1997. He left for loyalty reasons to Bret Hart after the montreal screw job and went to WCW who wasted his talents and did nothing of note with him.
In WCW he injured his back on a trap door placed in the ring for warriors entrance later that evening he was a different worker and died a few years later.Heart fail
@Ladieschoice1985 I was being a smart ass. You must be one of those "smart fans" LOL come on man! Everyone already knows this crap. I find it humorous when people get on here & talk like this, like you have some first hand knowledge. It's funny to me when fans quote the wrestling sites. Great look, can’t cut a promo blah blah blah. Stop trying to be an “expert” You called him a nearly man for Christ sake! LMAO!
What a reaction... Davey Boy is so jacked at this time. Did what he had to do, I guess. He had such a long and vital career. He's on the "greatest match" resume of so many guys (HBK, Bret, the tag team stuff, etc.)
Davey Boy Smith was supposed to be Big in the WWF. Jim Ross has said a number of times that Vince really wanted to package him to be a top draw but it just never happened. If you guys think about it he was supposed to be a top draw from 92-96 but it never really came to be. He had a great body, but just like Lex Luger, Thats all you were going to get!
lol, most likely, i actually did some internet research on matilda the dog, to find out what ever happened to it.. i cant seem to find out anything on it?.. the dog was a star to if you think about it.. every wrestling fan from the 80's can remember that dog.
I have this on an old tape; "Coliseum Home Video WWF World Tour 1992". Great matches on it. Roddy Piper vs. Barbarian, Brett Hart vs. Rick Martel, Macho Man vs. Shawn Micheals and a bunch of maches and profiles on Davey Boy.
I remember watching this match when it came to out and I saw it at the video store. at the time was amazed that Davey Boy was able to slam Earthquake. Unfortunately Andre, Quake and Bulldog are no longer with us.
