@covingtonjoe Very true. Goodness gracious. I still cry when I think of his death. He was born on my Mother's birthday (9-17-48) and he died the very same year my mother did. The world loved John Ritter.
@firewaterdirt No he died at his workplace (of 29 yrs) in Fruitland, NM. A coalmine power plant. Look up 'APS Power plant death NM' google. My name is Laveda and we live in New Mexico. I wish it was made up....but it's not.
this is why every year.. i spend time with my family during holidays.. mainly my grandparents.. my friends always wanna party.. hell i wanna party with them.. but new years christmas & thanksgiving.. i only wanna cherish the moments with my family.. & people get mad about that.. it just pisses me off cuz their not family oriented. it gets to the point where u just wanna say fuck it.. fuck you n fuck off. family is always important. anyday can be yours and their last together.
I cried so much... I know this happened years ago, but I saw it now, and this episode really touched me. It makes me so grateful for my loved ones. Even though my dad hasnt died he's pretty old and he has high blood pressure. I've gotten scared a few times and hopefully nothing will happen, he seems fine. But I should appreciate every moment cause things can change so suddenly from one day to another.... RIP John Ritter <3
I thought it was the best send off they could've given John Ritter. They did it with style, that's something he would really appreciate. Sorry that he's gone, he is certainly missed.
this goodbye episode is hard to watch i tear up every time and even watching how his kids take it make me cry ..my dad died when i was 17 ..my dad was fine when i went back to school after lunch ,when i came home 3 hours later when school was over i found my dad laying on his bed like he was takeing a nap. but he wasn't napping he was gone ...died of a heart attack ..i lost my dad so fast that day ..it shows how fast a loved one can be taking away from you ..so be good to the ones you love
When you live a life of loving others and making them laugh like John did, and by them being so sad and missing you when you leave, you have lived a truly wonderful life. God is taking very good care of John in Heaven... :)
i saw it for the first time this morning, i was just like! Nooo, i fucking cried! I've only seen it like 7 times, and yet i cried, cuz u fall in love with it so fast!
@SuperSully79 I think heart attack like John Ritter had. I loved this show. IMO it was still good after he passed but it just wouldn't have been the same.
R.I.P John(jack tripper) Ritter we will never forget you, and all those times you made us laugh, a very talented actor, he was the best of the best we will miss you
This episode is retarded, I know it's a tribute to John Ritter but why would they make him die in such a pathetic way (collapsing in a grocery store)? Why not make him die in a car crash or in an explosion caused by Megatron himself.
I cried and cried and cried. The episode hit to close to home. My dad died at his work place. They said it was a heart attack but my dad was a healthy person. Later they ruled that he suffocated. Dang that was on 1/13/09. I remember hearing him leave for work at 6:15 am but he never came home...
@moznico aww, I haven't watched this show that much but was interested to see what they did with his character after his unexpected sudden passing. So sorry to hear about your dad. I just went through a similar situation a few days ago. I got a call from my sister saying our dad collapsed at work and had a heart attack and was in a coma. He came out of the coma & was on life support. They removed it at noon and he was breathing on his own until his heart stopped 9hrs later
@xlilxmamax1andonly Thanks. I'm struggling to make sense of his death. After 2 years I think and wonder and ask ?'s. I just pray and pray he didn't suffer. My dad died when he went to repair a panel. Behind that panel was a build up of coal ashes. The coal ashes came and sufforcated him. THE HARDEST part was he was last seen at 9:15 am, but he was found at 3:36pm. This episode was/is very hard to watch...even this clip...ugh can't stop crying. He like John Ritter too :') Love you alot dad...
@moznico I understand, my dad's father (tho we werent rlly close) passed away suddenly, and my dad was pretending to be calm, tho I know he's still freaked from it--tho we talk about it a lot when my bros and I see him on the weekends. :o_O
@moznico i am so srry i understand my best friend past away 3 months ago and i just couldnt stop cryin it really stinks to lose such an important part of your life!!!!!!
When I think of John Ritter, I always think of laughing. I think of happiness. I think of joyfulness.
When I think of his death I have my tears, but I also have a smile on my face. I see him entertaining God.
If I could tell the people who worked with him anything, I would say; be happy you knew him. And be especially happy that he is in a place that is nearer to God, and therefore a place of happiness and peace.
This show probably could have been still running today, its so sad that we lost such a great actor he had such great talent not even words could describe him and what he did. This show is one of those shows you get to see the true bond that these actors/actresses had with one another, like "That 70's Show" like "Friends" and its so sad that he had past away in the middle of the second season. This show could have been so much more then what it was. Rest. In. Paradise. John Ritter <3

@mimato well if you get the ABC family channel you can catch 8 simple rules ..they on the episode where they got the nephew CJ and the grandpa but it won't be long they will be rerunning the episodes with John Ritter and after they show so many of them they will show the goodbye episode ..

i found out y he died John Ritter had a heart attack & soon his bday was coming up & died. I cant Believe it & he was about to turn 55 yrs old but it was too late & 6 days were coming up to his bday. he was born on September, 17, 1948-September, 11, 2003. poor john ritter. he was an awesome actor. he had only 1 yr of the show when he started he just began his career as in actor & he just died goodbye rest in peace john ritter, it makes me sad when i c pple who died in episode & in real life.:(

@sweetfunsweet them pic's are really from the show 8 simple rules ..there form the episode they called (good bye) when john ritter died ..the show made his character, Paul Hennessy pass away in the good bye episode and the pics are showing how the family is dealing with there father passing
@TheTudiscoKid they didn't use a laugh track in this show it was taped in front of a live studio audience if they silenced anything it be the sound of some people in the audience crying cause this episode was to sad to cry .i am sure the live audience cried and people watching it on tv cried thats how sad this was ..so really if they silenced anything it be the live audience ..you didn't here no laughing cause the audience found nothing funny to laugh at this was sad not funny i didn't laugh
this truly has meaning, you never know when a person you love will leave your life, there's nothing you can do, whether it be death or just to leave without any warning!
This show would have made it big man. it would have made it past 2005 man. I hate it when the good TV shows only last for three years. Like Drake & Josh, Unfabulous, and Ned's Declassified. Yes, they are all Nick related. I just wish that he never died. It wasn't the same without him slamming the door on the pervert boys face.
They should've just cancelled. Looked what happend with News Radio. The main characters dies because his actor dies as well, it doesn't make for a watchable show anymore.
This is a very sad episode. The saddest thing is that he really died. I've heard that Katey Sagal, and the other actors were really crying during the filming of this episode.
this episode was really really sad. i watched it again last week and i thought it was even sadder this time, cuz it made me think of my cousin and his wife. their daughter passed away 3 months ago.
Unfortunately this is what happening all over the world....when though we don't want them to go, grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters. (sigh)
I still cry too. The GOODBYE episode was filled with real emotion and tears. I think that is what makes it so good yet so sad. John Ritter was an amazing actor, husband & father. He loss touched many lives. I remember the cast on tv after he passed and their tears were real. I think this Goodbye episode was aired about 6 weeks after his death.
On September 11, 2003, Ritter felt ill while rehearsing scenes for the second season of 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter. He was taken across the street to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, where he died later that evening, around 10:45 pm PST - ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA!
this episode was so sad. it made me feel like my dad died. its kind of rude that they would continue the show though. they should have just cancled it.
Henry Winkler (the Fonz) was making a guest appearance on the show and talked to him right before Ritter went to the hospital and died; Winkler said Ritter was sweating bad and complaining about being thirsty. Aortic dissection, which the hospital thought was a heart attack and gave him blood thinners -- the absolute worst thing they could have done. He bled out.
Does anyone know where I can watch this online? I tried hulu, but it cost money.

That episode makes me cry every time. Even some of the scenes in the following episodes. The show handled it really well, and was really touching.

Death
John Ritter's gravestone
On September 11, 2003, Ritter felt ill while rehearsing scenes for the second season of 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter. He was taken across the street to Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center, where he died later that evening, around 10:45 pm PST - ACCORDING TO WIKIPEDIA!

@mizmystY Yes I would agree.
He made all the shows he was apart of that much better.
AreYouReady990 1 year ago
@mizmystY The cause of his death was an aortic dissection caused by a previously undiagnosed congenital heart defect.

this episode was so sad. it made me feel like my dad died. its kind of rude that they would continue the show though. they should have just cancled it.
