please please, someone can tell me what the letter says in the min 1:35 and the letter in the min 2:42... please please... i'm mexican and i need translate and subtitle this wonderful film... but i don't understand what the letters say... please help me!!!
Perhaps a sign that Murnau was already in decline as a filmmaker or at least in hollywood. We can only speculate what he might have done with sound. He might have been a lousy homosexual but this guy had talent!
This print is horrible on here. YouTube's compression stinks. You can barely make out faces. Now it's out on Blu-ray in high definition. That's the one to get. This is an embarrassment.
There's a Murnau/Borzage DVD set coming out from Fox later this year, which will include both "Sunrise" and "City Girl" as well as 6 or 7 Borzage titles, incl "7th Heaven" and "Street Angel". Who would ever have thought we'd see such a thing? I can hardly wait...
That's great news. I'll be interested to see how accurate my subtitles are for the Italian SEVENTH HEAVEN I posted a few months ago. I hope someone releases the other 4 surviving Murnau films that aren't yet available.
That was you that posted "7th heaven"? Thanks for than, man, I hadn't seen that damn film in years, what a delight it was to see it again.
Titles for the set are reportedly:
Borzage: Lazybones(1925),7th Heaven(1927),Street Angel(1928),Lucky Star(1929),They Had to See Paris(1929)Song o' My Heart(1930),Liliom(1930),Bad Girl(1931),After Tomorrow(1932),Young America (1932).
Murnau:Sunrise(1927),City Girl(1930).
12DVDs. It's going to be expensive, but I think it'll be worth it.
It would be an absolute blast if this brought Borzage back into people's attention, and we could get even more of his films on DVD. I'd love to get the 2 Dick Powell/Ruby Keeler romances, Man's Castle, especially the 2 films he made for Norma Talmadge, "Secrets" and "The Lady". We can dream, eh.
Imagination at its crest. Sensational. A thrilling story. Carol

While not a good print, I recommend the watch. It takes you to another time, place, and sensibility. Thanks.
