If you want to get technical Transformers did come first, at least in Japan, the toys that would become Transformers Generation 1 were first released as Microman and Diaclone in Japan in 1974 and 1980. Go-Bots only has the distinction of coming out first in the US. But even though Go-Bots came out first it lacked the marketing muscle, story arcs, animation, and likable characters that the Transformers had

Excellent show! I used to watch this back in the day along with the Transformers.
Even though I haven't seen as many episodes.
The intro music theme is more epic than the Transformers equivalent imo.
