Stumbled across this line by accident this past week (Aug 2nd, 2011) driving between Gold River & Woss. Didn't even know it existed, now I find out they used to run a tourist steam engine on the line in the early 90's.
It's a shame there aren't more logging railroads on the island.
btw the narrator errored with Beaver Cove & Vernon Lake/River (he said "Beaver Creek & Vernon Cove"), good work nonetheless.
i just want to cry my eyes out about whats happened to poor old canfor!! the new paint scheme the rebuilding of engines !what i really want to know is what is going to happen to the 2-8-2 #113 steam engine?
It felt as though I was filming history when I was doing the speeders - and the steel spar logging machine as well - not sure how long that will be around
that wasn't the 113 steam locomotive siting on display without the black thing on its smokestack was it? new paint? oh whats happing to the poor canfor route?!?!

Larry Knutson is one awesome guy. I worked with him during my summers while I was in college.

Say hello to Mr Knutson. I knew his family in Woss. They lived behind us. My name is Del.

Woss, the last of the big logging camps.
Now you either buy a place there, or drive out every day.
It's a beautiful area, and it is really worth seeing.
My Dad used to run Elk River Timber.

What about Zebalos, Holberg or Winter Harbor?
People used to hitch rides on these loads going to Alberni before they had paved road north of Campbell River.

Sure, it's all they had.
I remember when the highway was built, and it's what killed Woss Nimpkish and Vernon logging camps.
After the hwy they made everyone commute to work, and the IWA in true form caved yet again.

have they been mothballed?
thats a shame - but I assume that a modified pickup is cheaper to run
